Don’t believe the reports going around recently suggesting that Kieron Dyer is a target for Tottenham in the summer - and may be on his way out of Newcastle. He may be a target - because he’s a good player - but surely Dyer is going nowhere.
Kieron has been at Newcastle since 1998 and the fans still haven’t seen the very best of him - and his injuries have restricted him to only 209 actual starts for the club (24 this season) and 28 substitute appearances (3 this season) for a total appearance total of 237 - not too many over a nine year stretch.
Newcastle may be on the verge of getting the best out of him - since it does appear the club has finally solved Dyer’s hamstring problems - so there appears no sense in the rumors.
Dyer also offers something that is very rare these days - the ability to move with the ball at speed and take on players as he goes. It’s true that Kieron’s form has dipped a bit in recent games - but remember he’s played quite a few games for Newcastle this season - from almost none last year - and will be a lot stronger next season.
Why would Dyer want to leave Newcastle?
One would think he is thankful to the club for standing by him - over the last couple of years - while paying out his reported $80k/week wages while on the injury table.
If Newcastle really want to challenge for top six next season - and they most certainly do - Kieron Dyer is going nowhere.
Here’s what Glenn Roeder had to say about the news:
“Kieron Dyer has only really just returned to full fitness. The last couple of years have been stop-start - more stop than start - in terms of playing.
“He has now proved he is fully fit again because he has had a long run of uninterrupted games with no problems whatsoever with the hamstring that caused him the problems.
“Why on earth would I want to be losing Kieron Dyer after spending so much time and being so patient with him when he has been out injured?
“He is a major player for us. He can open up defences - no-one can run with the ball quicker than Kieron Dyer - maybe Joe Cole at Chelsea - but Kieron at his best is a big asset to Newcastle.
“As far as I am concerned, Kieron Dyer will be playing for Newcastle next season.”
Well said Roeder - and hopefully the end of the story.

He may be able to run with the ball at speed. I believe all that running is useless, he doesn’t make clever runs, he doesn’t go pass people, it’s a fact he doesn’t. His runs are not penetrating. Roeder might be talking about Arjen Robben or Ronaldo. Wanna know what kieron dyer does most of a match.. He gets the ball runs either towards our defence or left or right then passes it he obviously doesn’t run with it. Whenever he comes on as a substitute for England, don’t you always feel the skepticism in what he is going to able to do or provide. Let me give you an example.. Put Aaron Lennon on you know what you’re going to get that’s simply ATTACK! Put kieron dyer on “headless chicken” running around. He’s not the player he used to be i.e. from ipswich, he wasn’t afraid of having the ball and running with it and making stepovers on the wings, I believe that’s why he used to be called up for England all the time back then, but not anymore. He rufuses to play on the right side because he wants to play attacking/ supporting striker, but he doesn’t have any aerial power or striking ability to score goals form the area. In all the games he had not once have i got a memory of him shooting. Unlike Rob lee. And btw Joe Cole swings from left to right dictates pace, knows how to cross, pass and jink a a few players. Hey no wonder Dyer is way down the pecking order in the England squad. Enough is enough, I continue to play him is Pro Evo Soccer down the right just becuase of his pace, in other places he gets shoved around, unless i pass beforehand. Plus he can’t even tackle. Let him go, he’d be just like Jenas, has anyone heard of his success. Anybody.. If we had 3 teams like in american football i.e. offensive, defence and special team. Dyer would be in the special team, only use in certain cases. For instance against lesser teams with crappy defences, or nearing the end of the full 90 mins to run around. He’s not a first team candidate in my NUFC. In sidwell! In Giles Barnes! If a footballer got no brains somebody got to tell him. Roeder aint that guy.

Very interesting comment.
Still think we should keep Dyer until at least the end of next season and see how he does - think he’s going to have excellent season next year - but we’ll see.
Getting Sidwell AND Giles Barnes would be great - we’ll have to see what transpires on the transfer front this summer - but it better be good - thanks we HAVE to get in some high quality defenders.
Thanks again for comment.

W - I seriously hope that you’re not judging Dyer based on what you’ve seen of him in Pro Evo
Dyer can cross, he can shoot, he can run with the ball. Whether he can consistently beat his man and whether he can pick out great passes regularly will depend on him having a full season without injury. You need at least that much to start showing what you’re capable of, and if Dyer gets that he should be gold for Newcastle.

Relatively he can’t shoot Ahmed. It’s like when liverpool sing “gerrard he can shoot from 40 yards, he’s better than frank lampard” in dyer’s case “he’s shite relative to “them”. Them being the people who can shoot! I don’t judge him by Pro Evo, in Pro Evo he’s my king, too bad it’s not real, i give the ball to him all the time. If you have time you can look up Newcastle’s victory over Spurs in 1997 Newc 7 Spurs 1. I made an article on BBC 606 yesterday, basically comparing NEWC97 and NEWC07, based on this video, but somehow they’ve removed it for god knows what. Real annoyin gon my part- i couldn’t even edit it. Listed out in detail every move newcastle made that led to a goal or a chance and made it apparent what our present team is lacking. From Milner’s crosses to players that don’t look up. Any decent football fan could see it. I’m too lazy to make up my whole article again, i went mad in my house last night just because of this. Good idea to have a blog, hope this blog goes on well and many more Newcastle fans will regularly visit this site.
