Since Sam Allardyce resigned from Bolton Wanderers on Sunday there has been ample speculation about where he could end up. That’s not unexpected after the great job he did at Bolton. Manchester City and Newcastle are two clubs mentioned as possible destinations – but the rumors are now growing that Newcastle may indeed be interested in bringing big Sam to Tyneside – would that be good for Newcastle?
You bet!
The Daily Express has a piece about Allardyce in today’s paper saying that the Magpies are keen on Big Sam.

No way to tell if there is any truth in this rumor – but it’s very interesting nevertheless.
The Express quotes a source close to the club as saying “The Geordies would love Big Sam’s belligerent style and no-nonsense approach.
That would go down well here so it’s watch this space.”
It’s true that whatever the Newcastle situation – there would be inevitable links to Newcastle United.
While Shepherd has undoubtedly told Roeder he’s the man for next year – Freddy may be having second thoughts with Newcastle fans becoming increasingly impatient at the terrible run we are having at the end of the season – and Roeder’s inability to get the team playing with any enthusiasm.
I’m sure it’s a gentleman’s agreement between Shepherd and Roeder – and it may be difficult for Shepherd to back out right now and sack Roeder – but maybe I’m overestimating Shepherd as a gentleman. (I can hear the cries of YES YOU ARE).
As one pundit noted yesterday – you have to act when the right guy becomes available – and I don’t think there’s much doubt that Sam would be a BIG favorite with the Newcastle faithful.
Forget about Allardyce playing negative football – with the players he would get at Newcastle he would make sure it was good stuff – and hey – we’d be winning.
He’s a no nonsense guy – and would certainly get the best out of our current squad – and Sam I think at this stage of his career would love the challenge on Tyneside – and don’t underestimate the huge job it is – because of the undying expectation of the Geordie faithful.
I think Big Sam is up for it – and maybe Freddy is starting to waver.

have your read the new comments made by roeder explaining or rather justifying he’s choice of captain i.e. tactics. It’s pathetic. Allardyce will make the best use of each player in the squad even Albert luque. Just look at what he has done at bolton. I think he has a lot more professional approach than roeder. I bet he list all his players and breaks them down their attributes and skills into percentages and rates their morale their form and etc. Wouldn’t that be great, a systematic approach. Rather than seeing the face of your player “lit up” after handing the captain’s arm band.

W – yes it would be – got to admit I’m kind of hoping we make switch to Big Sam – but don’t really know what Shepherd is thinking….but he cannot be happy with recent results.

Allardyce is too shady. Shepherd would live in a daily state of paranoia and suspicion.

Allardyce would fit nicely with Shady Shepherd – Bung & Bunger?
Besides the dealing aspect, I like the way Big Sam has extracted the potential out of guys like Anelka that need to be “managed”. He knows how to build a team and that is what we need. We have players with talent and the way we played against Chelsea you could see that. (Not saying we couldn’t do with buying a couple of good experienced player, especially in defence). But at the same time there is no point bringing new people in unless you have a solid team mentality to bring them in to.

Andy – I agree with you – we have talent and a good manager could make them play well – and we wouldn’t need too many new players – but we are short at center back and left back.
I don’t know much about Allardyce – but a couple of comments say he’s a little shady – but hey – if he makes our team into a winner – that would be great.
Very interesting to see if anything will transpire on this – but I’m sure he would jump at the job – if it was offered.

shady or not, success is more important.
i mean, would chelsea fans take mourinho and 2 prems or ranieri and more 2nd/3rd place finishes?
