With Allardyce in Charge – Who Will Come and Go at Newcastle?

With Roeder leaving Newcastle last Sunday we will need to take a look at who will be leaving Newcastle, who will be staying – and who will be coming in.
We did that recently – let’s review again who we thionk will still leave and who Big Sam (assuming he is manager next week) will be bringing in.

Sam Allardyce

We will need your feedback on this one – let’s get going.

We identified six players that we thought would be certainties to leave if Roeder remained in the job.

One forward – Albert Luque – and five defenders – Bernard, Babayaro, Moore, Onyewu and Bramble.

From upper left clockwise Albert Luque, Olivier Bernard, Celestine Babayaro , Craig Moore, Oguchi Onyewu and Titus Bramble

We see no reason why Sam would want to keep Luque, Moore and Bernard.

Luque is hopeless, Moore is too injury prone and Bernard is the invisible man at Newcastle.

There may be some question marks surrounding Babayaro, Bramble and Onyewu.

  • Babayaro – a decent enough player but is often injured – but Allardyce may think he would be decent enough squad player
  • Bramble – we don’t think Bramble should stay – but when he plays well – he’s very good but makes too many mistakes. Allardyce might feel like Harry Redknapp – that Bramble can be coached out of his mistakes – and we seem to remember a rumor that Allardyce may have been interested in Bramble while he was still at Bolton. It’s a possibility he may stay – we hope he goes – we’ve had enough of Bramble’s errors
  • Onyewu – hasn’t had enough chances at Newcastle but he’s a big strong guy and good in the air – and may be Allardyce’ type as a big strong no-nonsense defender – but Allardyce appointment certainly will complicate Onyewu’s status

Who else may be moved out?

We feel that Stephen Carr will likely join the exodus – since the only reason we thought he would stay was because Roeder liked him.

Two players who also will be questionable as to their immediate futures at Newcastle will be Nobby Solano and Antoine Sibierski – simply because their contracts run our and although they agreed new one year extenasions – those contracts are not signed.

Nobby Solano Antoine Sibierski

We’d like to see both of them stay at Newcastle since they both have had good seasons.

Other player mentioned as culpable is Dyer – but we feel he owes Newcastle and it would be unwise to let him go right now – he needs to show us what he’s got next season under Big Sam.

Who will Sam bring in?

This is who we listed in our last article on this topic when roeder was still in charge: For your reference here is the link – Newcastle to release five defenders

Fabricio Coloccini – Deportivo La Coruna, Curtis Davis – WBA, Anton Ferdinand – West Ham, Wes Brown – Manchester United, Sylvain Distin – Manchester City,

Liam Rosenior – Fulham, Leighton Baines – Wigan, Gareth Bale – Southampton, Wayne Bridge – Chelsea

There are already rumors that Allardyce will want to bring in Kevin Nolan and maybe Tal Ben Haim in defense.

Nolan is a busy all out player and Ben Haim is simple and effective at the back – so these would be decent signings.

The other player we’ve always thought would be good at Newcastle ( but Roeder didn’t want him) is Sylvain Disitin.

We’d like to see Allardyce bring him in – because it looks like Sam will go more for experience at the back rather than youth (as Roeder preferred).

That will probably mean that Anton Ferdiand and Curtis Davis will not be arriving even though it appears that negotiations were well along to bring Ferdinand in.

We think Gareth Bale will be signed by Manchester United and would be too expensive in any case – so we’ll take him out.

We also believe Luke Young may be available from relegated Charlton and he would be good at Newcastle – and we had a lot of support last time for Gabriel Milito, currently playing for Spanish league side Real Zaragoza (age 26 – central defender).

Here’s updated list of possible incoming players..

Fabricio Coloccini – Deportivo La Coruna

Wes Brown – Manchester United

Sylvain Distin – Manchester City

Gabriel Milito -Real Zaragoza

Ben Haim – Bolton

Liam Rosenior – Fulham

Leighton Baines – Wigan

Luke Young – Charlton

Wayne Bridge – Chelsea

As for our midfield we’d like to see Steve Sidwell still come in and perhaps Giles Barnes of Derby County – but if Nolan arrives only one of these would be necessary.

It isn’t looking too good about Sidwell – but he may still come.

OK – that’s an update – what do you think is going to happen?

We’ll probably get some idea next week – but let us know now what you think.

I’ve heard that Fat Sam has tried to sign Tim Cahill from Everton a couple of times already but that with some real money behind him now he will make Cahill his top target. Can anyone conmfirm or deny?

Cahill would be an excellent signing for any club.

Dunno if Sam will actually get him.

Goouch is a carbon copy of Bramble. Maybe a manager like Sam could get the best out of him but i doubt it. Shame though as he has the physicality and he sure can through a ball.

Phil – Gooch doesn’t make that many mistakes – certainly not the gaffes of Bramble.

    OWEN must stay!!

    T.Bramble / S.Carr / C.Moore can definately go!

    S.Sidwell / C.Davies / W.Brown / P.Crouch and especially W.Bridge!

For the country we can’t have both Cole and Bridge at the same club! Muppets!

Fernandes – Everton he is on loan from Benfica – Portugal
but “the price is probably a bit too rich for us, if what we hear is correct,” – Moyes told the Daily Mirror. I would take him.

Fernandes (CM,AM) – Everton in and Emre out.
Giles Barnes (CM,AM) – Derby in and Dyer out.
Nathan Porritt (LM) Middlesbrough in (free) and Luque out.
Luke Young (RB) – Charlton in and Carr out.
Wayne Bridge (LB) – Chelsea in and Babayaro out.
Leighton Baines (LB) – Wigan in and Bernard out.
Ryan Taylor (RB,RM) – Wigan in and Ramage out.
Sami Hyypia (CD) – Liverpool in and Bramble out.
Gabriel Milito (CD) – Real Zaragoza in and Moore out.
Darren Bent (F) – Charlton in and Ameobi out.

Christian Wilhelmsson has not signed for Roma yet and still on loan from France… Put some flare on the wing… JUAN MANUEL DELGADO MORENO ‘JUANMA’ from Deportivo – a great strong defender that seem to be on the market as well…

I disagree with your comments on luque,in my opinion he is far from useless.he was, after all, a spanish international but was never ever given a chance by either souness or roeder and possibly shepherd.hopefully the new manager will give him chance, thats if luque has not been completely sickrnrd off.

Krzysb – definitely like the idea of getting young Nathan Porritt from Middlesbrough – if we can get him.
Hey that’s almost a full team – of the ones you have going out I would still keep Ameobi, and Ramage.
Think Ameobi may be pleasant surprise next year.

John- i may have over-reached on Luque – but for $9.5M he has never produced much for us.
Your point I guess is that he needed a string of games to get up to playing speed – and didn’t get them – I guess we’ll never know – unless Big Sam thinks he can make use of him. He certainly gets the best out of whichever players he works with.
We think Gooch never got a decent chance either.

Regarding Gooch and Shambles….anybody notice how Roy Keane transformed Nyrone Nosworthy from a Sunday league player into a decent centre half down at the moggies??????? I’m not saying Titus hasn’t had more chances than a Monopoly board but who’s to say Allardyce couldn’t do something with him or Gooch. I’d say bye to Carr, I wouldn’t make him an International for the Isle of Wight.

Hammy – I know – don’t be surprised if Big Sam keeps one or two players we think are going – and gets the best out of them – not sure who they’d be – maybe stretch to think it could be Bramble – but you never know.
But that’s job of a coach – get the best out of players he has.
I’m looking forward to Sam being appointed and saying what he’s going to do.
Think he will be over the moon to be Newcastle Manager.
