Major Newcastle News Stories – 19th May 2007 – Is Ben Haim Coming?

Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today – in no particular order of priority.

  • News that Newcastle United will play Celtic in a pre-season friendly at St James’ Park in the summer. The game is scheduled for Thursday, July 26th and will KO at 7:45 pm. Of course we’ve played Celtic many times in exhibition type games – including Alan Shearer’s testimonial last year.
  • Good reporting in the Northern Echo – with a piece on how Sam will deal with the bad boys at Newcastle. We may run a piece later today on who else will be leaving Newcastle this summer.
  • There are lots of mini-reports in Tribal Football on Newcastle. One piece – taken from the Independent – is that West Ham have offered ₤7M for Parker – not sure how true any of these reports are – but we think Sam will cash in on at least one of our existing mid-fielders.
  • A good piece in the Sun saying that Ben Haim will be Sam’s first signing for the club. Well – that would be good – he can play anywhere across the back four – and is tough tackling. He apparently has turned down a ₤2 5K/week deal from Bolton – since he prefers a move to Newcastle. How much did he cost – a free transfer !

Those then – briefly – are the major news stories today on FA Cup Final day – not too much new news really – let us know your thoughts and opinions on these.

well i might as well kick the board off today. i think ben haim will come for sure. i also noted about parker, ihope he stays as he is exactly the sort of player that sam likes. ithink scotts head just went down a little with all of the crap going on in the dressing room last season, plus loosing so many games etc. lets not forget he was our best player the season before. you dont loose your skill just like that – look at butt. yes, the midfield is a disjointed mess a think. for me, duff and dyer out. milner/zogs/emre/butt and parker stay. still nothing of owen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Craig ,
I agree cash in on dyer and duff . Too injury prone and too fragile .Not convinced about Scott Parker think I prefer Kevin Nolan . I have suggested Nick Butt as team Captain .Milner and the Zog (if he is mentally right ) Emre to stay( unless Bayern Munich pay a decent transfer for him ). S ee mu comments in the EMO section re EMO enough said . I Steve Sidwell really go to Chelski ?? he would be good . Nicky Shorey as Left back also . Sol Cambell would be good along side Steven Taylor

Think Owen’s got a bit of a cheek keeping quiet. If he wants to go – or is even thinking about it – tell us and we’ll get somebody else – but don’t sit on the fence – it looks weak – like you’re trying to have your cake and eat it too.
