Major Newcastle News Stories – 28th May 2007 – Heinze to Newcastle?

Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today – in no particular order of priority.

  • News that Gabriel Heinze may quit Manchester United for Real Madrid for ₤5M – now wouldn’t the 29 year old be just great at Newcastle – go for him Sam!

  • A story in the Times that Allardyce wants Peter Crouch for ₤10M from Liverpool. We don’t know how true this is – but certainly Glenn Roeder was also interested in Crouch. He would be a good ploy to Martins or Owen with his height and heading ability – to knock down balls for them

  • In the same piece the Times says Allardyce is still after free agent Mark Viduka of Middlesbrough. We’d be happier if more defenders were being mentioned – since we need to bring in quite a few

  • A relevent piece on Newcastle on SoccerLens – one of the best football sites on the web.
The article asks the question Can Newcastle Win the Premiership in Three Years – which of course is thought to be Ashley’s first goal for Newcastle. The author seems to know what’s he’s talking about 😀

  • An interesting story in the People yesterday that is a real possibility. It states that Michael Owen could leave Newcastle next year for next to nothing – because he would be starting the last year of his contract. With Owen into the last two years of his four year contract right now (and having only played 14 games) we believe if he doesn’t sign a contract extension next season – we may be forced to sell him for pure business reasons

Why would Heinze come here and reject Real Madrid? Let’s be slightly realistic.

i agree joe, its guna be difficult to convince the best players to come, but allardyce has to think even bigger than hes probably planned now due to mr ashleys intentions, but im sure that he realises this and hes on the ball.

Heinze sucks! He is slow and prone to errors…we just got rid of Bramble..!

Hey Kein, you can’t possibly compare Heinze and Bramble. Get serious. Goran Gavrancic is the man to try to get. Vidic is a good example how Premiership is a good style of soccer for big serbian defensemen. We need power in the back. Specially when you have small fullbacks like us in Carr and probably Baines. For Heinze’s defense, he’s the smallest guy I’ve seen trying to head the ball on every play. He’s a fighter, a passionate player.

Fred – i hope that Allardyce has some Serbians picked out – you’re right they fir out league very well.
The Russian twins Vasily and Alexei Berezutsky of CSKA Moscow are also great defenders and only 24 years old – only problem is you cannot make them out – they really are identical – 😀 – but they would be just great for Newcastle – bring the two of them over.

Liam – sure like to see some defenders coming in fairly quickly – then we’ll get an idea of where Sam’s headed – hope Sam is a big success – he seems such a straight up bloke.

I personally think that we should have this as a team:
                                           S Given
    L Young        T Ben Haim         F Coloccini           G Heinze
             J Milner               J Barton                  D Duff
            O Martins            P Crouch                 M Owen

Luke Young is a good call. At £2 million he’s a steal. And he’s more than likely thrilled at the thought of playing for NUFC.

joe – Luke Young would be a good buy – fight it out with Solano – that’s what we need – and he’d probably get back on England squad. What makes you think he would want to come?

Keeping in mind on the Viduka rumor – Martins will be out for several weeks with the Africa Nation’s Cup. Snapping up some cover for injuries and Martins absence cannot be understated.

Heinze is a fighter, a passionate player but not so smart I think. He just runs with a ball or for a ball without any plan what to do with it. Yes he jumps but he is unsucessful when he has a taller player in air to fight with him. And last couple of games I saw that he is very prone to errors. And berezutski twins are twice better than gavrancic becouse two good players are always better than one 🙂

Fred – OK, it is too much to compare Heinze to Bramble. But my point is that he is not that reliable in defence. And we need players who are solid defenders and don’t let opponents score easy goals..Heinze is very passionate though.

Never seen Goran Gavrancic play so can’t comment on that. Maybe saturday when Serbia comes to Finland to get their asses kicked (hopefully)!!
