Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today – in no particular order of priority.
Scott Parker is no longer a Newcastle player as news broke this morning that he has moved for $7M to West Ham – we are sorry to see Scott leave.
At this time of the year the papers have a field day with Newcastle – but things are moving along and we are seeing players leave and some soon to come in – as Sam wheels and deals.
- News breaking today that Scott Parker has left Newcastle for West Ham for an undisclosed fee. It’s a pity because Scott is an excellent player. We’ll never forget that game when he got a tooth knocked out and waved his hand to Souness indicating he had to come off. Scott is a brave player and for us epitomized guts and glory – and he was even a Londoner too. 😀
Anyway – we’ll remember Scott as a good player who gave his all for the club – best of luck Scott – you deserve it.Scott Parker
- Reo-Coker is said to be very keen to join the revolution at Newcastle with Sam Allardyce. It’s a report in the Sun – so may be dubious – but we think once players see what Sam is trying to do up here – more players will want to join – particularly when it is looking an almost certainty that Ashley will own the club. The fee mentioned is $8M. Fans seem undecided on Reo-Coker – since he didn’t have a very good season last year – but he would be playing for Allardyce and would be a good acquisition – given he’s still only 23 – and it’s good to have players who want to join Newcastle.

- News that Oba Martins is sorry about his recent behavior when he failed to turn up on time for the Nigerian International squad. But Berti Vogts may have had enough of Oba’s behavior and may axe him from the squad. That wouldn’t be too bad for us – but Oba will also have to shape up at Newcastle. Big Sam will hardly take any nonsense from Oba – and since we pay his wages – he should be thinking of that first – Nigeria should be a second thought for Oba.

With yesterday’s news that Ashley met with the board – in a cordial and useful meeting – and then visited Freddy Shepherd in hospital – we feel the Ashley deal is becoming almost a certainty. 😀

We are running two new related pieces today. One is taking a look at the players Allardyce is looking to bring into the club

and the other is who should still be dumped from the club

We’d appreciate your comments on these moves (as some may be controversial) and also comments on the above news stories.

Comment #1Although i’m sad to see Parker go, as he wanted to go there was no point keeping him. I like Reo-Coker but not for £8m, Parker is better and we sold him for £7m. Cause we are rich now, we might have to pay over the odds to get players in.
If Oba stays and gets kick out of the Nigerian squad that is definitely a good thing as the African Nations is on this year and he won’t have to miss games for us.

Comment #2He hasn’t left yet. The link clearly shows that the news is under the rumour mill part of the website. Regardless, i think he’ll leave under the same circumstances.

Comment #3Ed – is that one rule for Martins and another for Owen then!!!!!
Parker was clearly not happy last season, so if his heart ‘s not in it then best let him go. I think making him skipper was to much for him too.

Comment #5LewDavie – no way should Owen be captain – he hasn’t got the leadership abilities. We think Nicky Butt – if he can get his game.

Comment #6LewDavies – not sure what you mean about your comment on Owen and Martins ??
Agree with what you say about Parker – although still think he’s some player.

Comment #7Butt would make a good captain but is he going to be a dead cert in the 1st XI. Given is our was our vice captain last year but a goalie as a captain? Taylor has the leadership qualities but is he too young at 21, reo-coker was only 21 at west ham, darren bent has captained charlton at 20. Owen captain when he’s not even sure whether he wants to be here, i don’t think so. It’s Taylor for me, unless some one else comes in.

Comment #8Ed – just about who pays his wages and perhaps he should think about his club first and not his country first…. I just wish he would come out and commit to NUFC and that all the speculation was over.

Comment #9Taylor has been trying to boss the back 4 with little success. Those around him take no notice of him and have been taking the p*** and getting away with it. Taylor is not mature enough to be club captain yet and needs to concentrate solely on defensive duties.
Agree about Owen, so really that only leaves Butt. Defo worked hard last season and probably deserves a shot.

Comment #10LewDavis – OK understand – we think it’s bizarre behavior – just think if he does move on – we’ve worked out how much he was paid – and you cannot say Newcastle didn’t take care of him – maybe that 25,00 will turn out again – this time to boo him. Don’t think Michael is that stupid – but he’s obviously hoping to see the lie of the land with other clubs – that’s bad.
He’s also an attraction to other players who may want to join newcastle – cannot see this think lasting more than about 10 days – but we’ll see. We must keep Butt – don’t want to see him in a red and white shirt – but do hope Sunderland do well next year (but not too well ) 😀

Comment #11I think Taylor was doing his best last season – just turned 21 – but not ready to be captain. Milner and him were two of our very best players last season – James Milner was just great !!
