Top Players Sam Should Now Sign for Newcastle – for ₤45M

The players Big Sam is looking at right now will not cost too much – we’ll go through the figures in this article.

What we’d like to do is see who are the top players that Sam should be looking to bring into the club – once he has brought the free transfers in plus other players he is currently looking at. If Sam really has ₤45M to spend then he will have a lot of money left – and hopefully will be looking at bringing maybe 3-4 top class players to augment the squad.

We’ll now look at who he could bring in – and would certainly appreciate your input on this.

sam-allardyce-2.JPG

Sam Allardyce

Here are the players that were let go by Sam almost immediately he got the job at Newcastle.

titus-bramble.jpgpavel-srnicek300.jpgcraig-moore.jpgolivier-bernard.jpgoguchi-onyewu.jpg

Titus Bramble, Pavel Srnicek, Craig Moore, Olivier Bernard and Oguchi Onyewu

We got nothing for these players since they were all out of contract.

From our article this morning these are the players Sam could let go once he has brought in the players he needs – we include Scott Parker in this group – now it looks like he has gone to West Ham for ₤7M.

stephen-carr-2.jpgcelestine-babayaro.jpgkieron-dyer-1.jpgscottparker99.jpg

Carr (₤1M), Babayaro, Dyer (₤7M) and Parker (₤7M)

We think we’ll be able to get about ₤15M for these four players.

This group are those that seem almost certain (from our other article this morning) to be coming to Newcastle with their fees.

mark-viduka-ball.jpgben-haim-22.jpgderek-boeting.jpg

Viduka (free) , Ben Haim (free) and Boateng (<₤1M)

The next group are those that seem likely to be coming to Newcastle

leighton-baines-2.jpgjoey-barton-31.jpg

Leighton Baines (₤4.5M) and Joey Barton (₤5.5M)

The final group are those that are only probable at this stage.

curtisdaviespa_468×693.jpgeduir-gudjohnsen.jpg lucas-neill.jpgnigel-reo-coker.jpgpeter-crouch.jpg

Davis (₤10M), Gudjohnsen (₤8M), Neill (₤2M), Reo-Coker (₤8M) and Crouch(₤10M)

OK – now we’ve reviewed where we stand – we should get about ₤15M for the additional four players we’ll move out – and if we get the five in we think certain or likely that will cost us ₤11M.

So overall let’s assume that means we have ₤49M to spend in total. 😀

At this stage we are letting nine go and have brought in five.

So in addition to the five additional players we are looking at above (total cost for them would be ₤38M as a guide) – who are the additional top players we should be looking at – and of these who should we go for?

Here’s what we think.

First of all the defenders.

jorge-andrade_064.jpgfabricio-coloccini.jpgroberto-carlos01.jpg

Jorge Andrade (₤10M), Fabricio Coloccini (₤5M) and Roberto Carlos (Free?)

Next the mid-fielders and forwards.

carlos-tevez-2.jpgdavid-villa.jpgjose-torres.jpg

Carlos Tevez (₤25M), David Villa (₤25M) and Fernando Torres (₤25M)

From the six players identified along with the five that are probable – here’s who we’d take – assuming we have ₤49M to spend on our selection from the above 11 players.

  • Carlos Tevez (₤25M)
  • Fabricio Coloccini (₤5M)
  • Roberto Carlos (Free – but a huge wage bill)
  • Lucas Neill (₤2m)
  • Eidur Gudjohnsen (₤8M)
  • Reo-Coker (₤8M)

That would be $48M – and we’d give the other $1M to the tea lady 😀

So here’s who would come and go

Leaving

  • Bramble, Srnincek, Moore, Bernard, Onyewu, Carr, Babayaro, Dyer, Parker (transfers out – ₤15M)

Coming in:

  • Viduka, Ben Haim, Boateng, Baines, Barton, Tevez, Collocini, Neill, Gudjohnsen, Reo-Coker (transfers in ₤59M)

So that’s nine out and ten coming in for a net cost of ₤45M.

We are making lots of assumptions of course – like we can get Tevez is a huge one. We’ll also have to see if Owen is staying. But with the money Ashley will make available – we could have one heck of a squad next year.

Make sure you’ve bought those season tickets !

Finally, I’m sure your minds are buzzing (mine is!) with players we’ve missed out and such. Please let us know what you think – this is fun – and don’t forget – something like this should be happening.

😀

There are a lot of assumptions e.g dyer leaving, tevez signing as well as a lot of ambitious targets. Plus the transfer money available would depnd entirely on the takeover.
However i have been thinking about players we’ve missed out on and have decided to have faith in big sam and assume he has greater ambitions than those players. Fingers crossed 😀

Excellent. I don’t necessarally agree with the BIG names, but I do agree with the principle. Too many comments about ordinary players. If we intend being in a position to win the EPL in three years we need to start catching upwith the other major clubs. ManU have just raised that bar. £50m on three players. Trump that if you can.

Yeah would be a good squad, Owen,Martins,Viduka,Ameobi,Gudjohnson,Tevez all fighting for a place.

Wouldn’t bother with Tevez unless Owen or Martins left, spend that £25m on Andrade(£10m), Van Der Vaart (£10) and Diarra (£4). If Tevez wanted to come to NUFC i would sell Martins to Juventus for £14m and get him in.

With what you said above 9 out and 10 in, still would have a small squad struggled last year. Would love to see some big names come in as well as some decent squad players.

What do people think of Alfonso Alves, scored 31 goals in 34 games in the Dutch League at an average team Heveerveen, i know Kezman did the same and was poor in the premiership, but i think it is worth purchasing this guy looks amazing and doubt he would cost a great deal either.

You’re logic astounds me. A paper thin squad last season – a major reason we didn’t finish higher – yet you ignore this and go down the road of anti-keegan (i.e. sign players worse than those already at the club). David Villa for less than Torres – i’m left pondering why you gave the tea lady £1m…what has she been putting in it worth that much!!! Stick to playing FM2007 ta very much!

Presumably, Jose Torres is Fernando Torres, the Spanish striker. For me, if it’s between him & Tevez, it would have to be Torres. I believe, despite his youth, he is one of the most complete strikers around. I would love to see him in the Black & White.

In defence, how about John Terry? Currently not being offered what he feels he’s worth at Chelsea. It will be interesting to see what develops.

If it was possible to slot in a world-class playmaker, as well. Perhaps Mr Ashley’s Premiership title in 3 years might just be possible.

Mind you, it will be difficult to recruit these really top class players when we aren’t in Europe – unless Sam has hypnotism in his backroom bag?!

PS – what happens if Owen, who seems disinterested in commiting his future to NUFC, gets another bad injury tonight?

I still think we should go for Freddie Ljunberg as Nobby is not getting any younger and he would keep Milner on his toe’s. Also I think Klose would be a better signing than Tevez. Tevez is too bloody ugly. He scares my daughter and thats not good.

Midfielders;Reo Coker (8mil) or Barton (5.5mil), CAM who scores for fun???
Defenders; Baines (7 mil) Andrade(10mil) Luke Young (2-3mil) Roberto Carlos Sounds good he ran the pitch and scored the other day so hes looking good.

Instead of Carlos lets bring in Miguel from Valencia. He’s a top class right back with loads of pace, and he’s good on the defence side too. Torres would be class to have next to either Martins or Owen. In midfield a player like Mathieu Bodmer from lille and Rafael van der Vaart from Hamburg. Especially van der Vaart I would like to see at Newcastle, and I don’t think it would be unlikely to see players of his class joining us in the next couple of years. Also bring in the Milito brothers 🙂

No way would newcastle get David Villa for 15m. He is worth more than Tevez and Torres and id say 35m is more of his price. Personally i wouldnt sign Reo Coker but Barton is a good singing if allerdyce can calm him down. Enzo Maresca of Sevilla is a player id be closely looking at as he is part owned by Juventus and rumour suggests they are interested in offers

This article is an over optimistic joke. Of the six top players you mention, perhaps only Carlos would come (doubtful) and that would only be for a final pension fund.

Fortunately Big Sam has more sense than you!

What about David Bentley to rival Milner for a place in the team? Richardson on the left to rival N’Zogbia?

I also would like to see Van Der Vaart at NUFC, do you think this is a realistic target though, we do need someone like this a decent attacking mid, current center mid are mainly more defensive.

Any other realistic ideas for an attacking midfielder?

Glen – don’t take things too seriously – just trying to work out how to spend 45M – not sure Big Sam needs anywhere near that amount.
It’s a challenge spending the cash – and not sure some of these big stars are worth it -who would you buy? The only big one we went for was Tevez – and he’s great!

    Glen –

Tevez went to West Ham didn’t he, have you ever been to Upton Park its a shit hole.

And Coloccini and Andrade play for Deportivo who are in a financial struggle at the moment and we could easily double their wages.

Perhaps not Villa or Torres but again Tevez did go to West Ham so you never know

I wouldn’t spend 10mill on Davies. Decent player, but overhyped and not worth 10 mill. Buy proven talent at the mo, look to the future when we have a safe squad.

With all the above names, it just shows how big a job Sam has on his hands. I like the idea of Baines, Davis, Neil, Ben Haim, Viduka, Young, and some others but Barton is Lee Bowyer in disguise to me. What do people think about selling Emre and Ameobi in addition to the others. Tevez looks great late in the season, but not what Newcstle need right now, especially at 25 mill. Let’s hope something good happens very soon.

Pedro – well – I guess we couldn’t sell Owen if he was injured. The FA and FIFA will need to work out some policy when players get injured like Owen was last year – it costs the clubs a whole load of cash – plus we don’t have them available. Must get fixed quickly – will be watching the game.

Laim J – if we were truthful the one player we chose who we’re not 100 % convinced of is Reo-Coker – good young player but had a poor season last year – where in some games he just disappeared. Again assume that wouldn’t happen under Big Sam.

WooSoccer – agree completely – we’re not sure Sam needs 45M – not sure he’d know what to do with it all – but at some point we’ll need some world class players if we really do want to challenge for European Championship within 5 years. Will be interesting to see what Sam does this summer – but we have every faith in him – and certainly Ashley and Sam will need to talk once Ashley takes over.

I’ve upped the transfer amount for Villa to 25M so Villa, Tevez and Torres are all now 25M – note we only went for Tevez of those three – at least we know he can be a star in the Premiership.

Carl – David Rozehnal is Czech – 6’3″ and a central defender currently playing for PSG. He’s had 199 first class games and scored 4 goals. We would assume he’s a tough center back – and one that might be good for us. Sky Sports is saying he may decide which club he’ll goto fairly shortly and Borussia Dortmund were favorites – but there are difficulties in negotiations between PSV and Dortmund – now Sam is showing big interest because he was after David while he was Bolton manager – don’t be surprised if Sam gets him! He played for Czech Republic at European Championships in 2004 and World Cup in 2006.

As for Viduka, I think he is a great freebie. If there is a manager in the league that can get over thirties firing its Allardyce.

Ben Haim is a must! Very Solid, Very Strong and Very Consistent. 3 things we didn’t have last season from Bramble and Moore.

As for Baines…Well he has been Wigan’s best player since they came into the Premiership and is a the type of player we need. He would surely chip in with a few free kicks next season too.

Apparently now West Ham want Barton to play with Parker and I say let them have him. But make sure we get Reo-Coker!

I am a massive fan of Reo-Coker and he has the ability to change a game with his pace and power. I would agree that he has not had the best of seasons but I would think that this is because of him wanting to leave West Ham. He is obviously well balanced with being such young captain and has the agility that Parker, Emre, Butt and Dyer lacked in the middle of the park last season.

He should be our new number 1 target after letting Parker go.

Boateng is ideal at such a a low price and there is a great video of him on youtube scoring a nice goal.

I have a funny feeling we will keep hold of Oba and Owen but would still like to see Gudjohnsen strutting his stuff here next year. We must also not forget that the last time Eidur played under big Sam he scored more than 20 goals a season.

Obviously if we sign these players it doesn’t put a dent in the £45 million quoted. I agree that Coloccini and Andrade would be great signings too.

Below I have put a few ideas which should give you some food for thought:

Benoit Assou-Ekotto – Didn’t impress much at Spurs last season but with them recently getting Bale and already have Lee he would be an ideal back up for Baines.(Newcastle can never have enough left backs lol).

Joseph Yobo – Exceptional Center Half currently at Everton and although they are in Europe he knows they may not get far and may be persuaded to join his mate Oba at Newcastle.

Wesley Sneijder – Currently at Ajax and has been mentioned about a move to Villa. We are better than them and he would be a more than great replacement for Parker.

Yohan Gourcuff – Was bought by Milan lats season after a great season for Rennes in France. Very talented and a bit wasted at Milan as he will never play before Kaka…A move to the Prem may look good to him.

Kakha Kaladze – Mentioned about a Chelsea move but may have knocked that back as they already have Cole and Bridge at left back and Terry, Carvalho and soon to be Alex at centre half. Would be great for us.

These are of course just random names and I could go on forever but are certainly ones which have not been mentioned yet.

I have to congratulate you on the ambition of your targets, i dont think thats a bad thing but we need others in place just incase. Im also a little concerned that if we got your suggested ‘comming in’ that wed’d be a little lopsided. The squad would have six players fighting for two spots (Owen, Martins, Tevez, Viduka, Gudjohnson, Shola) not to mention young Caroll who wouldnt get a look in. At the back we would be short on full backs in the event of injury.

Having said that though if we could get gudjohnson (i dont think we have a prayer of getting tevez though i would try) he would be a great addition.

One thing for sure Between now and the close of the window we’ll be linked with every player from here to mars. All i know is that this team will be unrecognisable come start of season – which can only be a good thing!!!

Two players who are really good defenders are Vassili and Aleksei Bereoutski – the twin bothers (25 in June) who play for CSKA Moscow. They are 6′ 3″ and watched them a couple of times last season and they were both excellent – tough defenders. They both also play for Russia.
