Major Newcastle News Stories – 2nd June 2007

Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today – in no particular order of priority.

  • News today that Titus Bramble will be signing for Wigan Athletic on Monday in new manager Chris Hutchings first signing for the club. Bramble was at Newcastle for five years since Bobby Robson signed him from his old club Ipswich Town – and was never accepted by a lot of our fans. We wish him the best at Wigan.

  • Michael Owen played a substantial part of the England game against Brazil =- when with any luck England would have won 1-0. Brazil equalized in the 92nd minute – a pity because England needed the win for confidence. Nicky Shorey looked an excellent left back – better defensively than Cole. Also – for once Gerrard and Lampard both looked good together – with Gerrard looking like a man possessed with some of his great defending – what a player!
Owen still looked short of match practice and it’s going to take him quite a few games to get back to full fitness. Dyer came on after 60 minutes and showed some flashes. David Beckham looked great – he has matured so much – and after being messed around by McClaren showed no malice at all. His cross for Terry’s great goal was just …. perfect. Not sure going to LA Galaxy is the right decision now that he can obviously play quite a few more games for England. His free kick in the first half missed by inches. David did himself a lot of good last night. He needs to get with a manager who could have prolonged his career in top class football – because MLS is not too good. Interesting to see what happens now with Beckham.

  • News today that Craig Bellamy will be the new captain of Wales – given Ryan Giggs’ retirement from International Football. A strange choice to say the least – Craig will need to behave himself – but maybe it will also help him to mature more quickly – which is what he needs to do. Will be interesting to see where Craig ends up next season – but his price tag of ₤12M will not help

  • News that Nigel Reo-Coker feels unwanted at West Ham since Alan Curbishley arrived in January. That’s probably because he isn’t. Several clubs are after him but looks like Aston Villa and Everton are the leading ones. In fact in the Times report we aren’t even mentioned. Could it be that this is one player we will not go after? Probably.

  • Newcastle have joined the race to sign David Rozehnal from PSG as we reported yesterday. Rozehnal has been a rock at the heart of PSG’s defense this last season, is 6′ 3″ and Allardyce is an admirer. The fee is around ₤3M. Sam tried to sign David from PSG last January for Bolton. Rozehnal will play today for the Czech Republic against Wales and will then make his decision on whom to join. It’s between Newcastle and Burussia Dortmund. Don’t be surprised if he chooses Newcastle.

Thank God it looks like we are not going for Reo!!! I feel he would just be another Scotty Parker or Duff who will not fit in and jst be another could-have-been. Besides we were promised big names not West Ham knock offs. I think we shouold be goin for Bellamy, he is awesome even if he is abit unpredictable. Maybe his new role at Wales will settle him down?

Greg – that’s interesting about Bellamy – if anyone can handle him – it’s Sam. But we already have two small forwards right now in Owen and Martins – and 12M is just a ridiculous price that Liverpool put on him. More than Owen’s 9M.

But with speculation over both Owen and Martins future at newcastle we need someone lyk that as a potential backup in the future if Owen and Martins do go, and we could always try and get the price down especially as Owen wants to go to Liverpool, maybe a swap or part exchange??? Hu knows wat r ur thoughts on hu we should have up front?

apologies about the language above; but I hate him. Really really hate him. titus bramble or robbie savage are footballing legends compared to bellamy.

Can the mods just edit the previous comment for me to make it a bit more acceptable. Ta

Having Bellamy back in a black n white shirt, would be a nice thing to see. Although I don’t think the time is right. We need taller players up front, and even if Owen or Martins goes, I’d think we’d still be better off with some taller strikers like Gudjohnsen, because our midfield isn’t big either, and we need taller players for deadball situations. But if both Owen and Martins goes, probably not both will, Bellamy would be a decent signing

although it is true that bellamy did leave in disgrace we do not know all of the politics surrounding the incident. Also it was an old era which is finished now new manager new chairman soon new captain. I would welcome him back!! However i also think Gudjohnson would be a good buy and fowler maybe??? What has been said about his position at Anfield? Anything?

    your point beingwat?
They want owen back. I dont want him to stay any more he has not played enough games and he wont sign another contract, so in his last years contract he will go for a lot less. Do an exchange Owen for Bellamy.

Greg/Gary – i cannot believe Owen will leave in the summer – if he does he leaves himself wide open to justified heavy criticism – and he’ll look like a pathetic opportunist – and we’ll be well rid of him. But not sure Owen is that daft.

i think his passion for liverpool will be more important to him that wat us newcastle fans think of him. It would be like Alan Shearer playing at Anfield and being given the opportunity to go back to Newcastle.

Well he shouldn’t have come here in the first place – or else stay for the 4 years he committed to. Greg – it’s not just Newcastle fans who will think that way. Figures like 14 games and 7 goals for ₤18M – that’s ₤10M wages plus ₤8M lost on the transfer fee (17-9) – over two years. Probably the worst deal in Newcastle’s history – and that’s saying something.

12 mil for Bellamy? Has Rafa been smoking it a bit too much o wat? Last time I checked.. he’s shite! Crouch is worth 10 or so, so how come this midget should be worth 12 after one crappy f*&^%ing season?

Don’t know what is wrong with some fans! First Viduka, then Anelka and now Bellamy. We can really do better guys!
