Newcastle Transfer News on Butt, Dyer and Anelka

There are some new reports on who may come and go at Newcastle United this season.
Of course Newcastle – even more than usual – will be linked with almost every player who hints at a move – given we have a new manager and a potential new owner with deep pockets. Here are three transfers in the press and our views on them.

Potential Magpies Captain Butt

Roy Keane is keeping an eye on Nicky Butt at Newcastle United.
He would obviously like his ex-team mate at Sunderland to add some experience to the Wearsider’s team. But we think Butt is a key player at Newcastle for next season and just the type who Sam Allardyce will get the best out of. With Parker moving on we also think that Nicky can be a fine captain next season.
We cannot lose too many of our squad – and certainly not Nicky – who has shown character and guts last season for the Geordies.

Roy Keane – wonder if I can get Nicky?

Tottenham seem to be interested in Kieron Dyer and the fee being mentioned is in excess of £10M. If that is accurate we should sell him – because we have never been able to get Dyer on the field much in his nine years at the club. It may just be time for Dyer to move on. Kieran carries with him a lot of baggage from the past and it could be that it’s a good move for both Dyer and Newcastle. We’ll have to wait and see on this one but £10M would be good business for Newcastle.

Kieron Dyer to Tottenham?

Sam Allardyce may try to sign Nicholas Anelka – who played for Sam last season at Bolton. Manchester United – according to reports – have already made an offer for Anelka. With Owen, Martins and Ameobi already at the club and with Mark Viduka apparently ready to sign for us on a free transfer – looks like we already have our quota of strikers. This could be a ploy in case Owen moves on – or perhaps Sam is thinking of moving on Oba Martins because of his attitude (?).
If either leave we’d rather see Eidur Gudjohnsen arrive for £8M.

Anelka and Gudjohnsen – we prefer Eidur

Anelka is a prolific scorer but I’m just not convinced about his attitude. Gudjohnsen doesn’t have a good enough scoring record in the Prem to be worth £8m in my opinion.

I agree although i would much rather have Gudjohnsen than Viduka who is our potnetial new signing. At least Gudjohnsen has some wow factor. Hu knows maybe newcastle could be his turning point in the Prem?

we do need strikers though. We have two small strikers who have the same playing style we need someone who offers us height and therfore depth and variation upfront like the 6″1 that Gudjohnsen would give us. Although we do need defenders too admitedly.

I think Gudjohnsen would be much better up front, and much better than Anelka. Definitely sell Dyer for 10 mil. He didn’t do anything towards the end of last season and he still is injury prone. We probably should hold on to Butt since we’ve lost Parker, which is a shame.

Cash in £10m on Dyer and use £8m on Gudjohnsen sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I also think Butt is up for the armband and will me motivated more than ever.

I think that Butt is past his best and we need to bring in someone new and fresh who can lead us like Scotty was supposed to do for us. Possible thoughts – Beckham i think will be back in Prem to or at least in more prestigious footie now he has the chance to pllay for England again. Possible move to Newscastle may jst be wishfull thinking but allthe same….. Barton could be good in the future but will take a few years to mature good investment now …. ny thoughts?

Greg – think Butt will be revitalized under Sam – but we’ll have to wait and see. With Beckham – he looked great last night – think he’s often under-rated – his technique is very good – and his crosses are the best. He’s also a very mature person now – with all the criticism he’s had to take in the past (some of it no doubt justified). I bet he wishes he hadn’t done that deal with the LA Galaxy – the MSL is poor quality right now – just think he could have been playing at a club like Newcastle for the next few years – and Sam would have kept him playing great. 😀

i think butt is a solid player but if we want this club to b a top 4 club again then we need more class!! barton and reo coker wudnt b bad if barton behaves!! owen and martins up front-we shud at least give them a go!! and bring in 2 dominating solid centre backs to stop us leaking goals!! then 2 decent full backs and well b fine!!

Dyer is rubbish! I don’t know what the fuss is “Oh, Dyer is a great player blah blah”… Truth is he’s done f*** all since his time at Newcastle. I think we should get rid off him, no point him sticking around if we’re paying him for bugger all. And why are we once again linked with stupid names like Anelka?!…

Outlaw – if we’re being offered 10M for him – we should take it.

i think dyer can still prove himself worthy of a first team place at the toon , even at his age he still has bags of pace and can be topclass when he wants to

if we can get 10 million for dyer we should sell him – i’d be happy enough for martins to move on if we can get gudjohnsen – i agree with keeping butt – reckon sam will def get best out of him next season
