Newcastle Transfer News on Ben Haim, Rosehnal and Baines

Sam Allardyce – after a very successful first week at Newcastle – when he moved Mark Viduka and Joey Barton in for ₤5.5M – and moved our captain Scott Parker out for ₤7M – will now look at Newcastle’s much-maligned defense, and work on bringing in the players to fix Newcastle’s leaky defense once and for all.

Ben Haim – Signing for Newcastle?

This is what Sam told Sky Sports News yesterday:

“To target some defenders is obviously key now,” “We need to strengthen the back four for the start of the new season.
“Strengthening the defense will be my key area.”

It’s been well documented that Big Sam’s initial targets for the back four are Tal Ben Haim, David Rosehnal and Leighton Baines.
If Sam is to have another good week next week we’d expect at least two of these to be Newcastle players – probably Ben Haim and Rosehnal. Ben Haim is a free transfer, Rosehnal will cost us about ₤3.3M from PSG and Baines will cost us around ₤5M from Wigan Athletic – but all three would be excellent acquisitions for Newcastle.

We believe negotiations are almost complete to bring Ben Haim and Rosehnal to the club – and Ben Haim will probably be tied up first early next week – or even over the weekend.
We think a fee has been agreed with PSG for the Czech International center back Rosehnal and that Borussia Dortmund cannot match that fee of ₤3.3M – so we look home and dry on that one too.

We haven’t heard much about Baines – but sure he will have been reading the stories on Newcastle over the last few weeks – and with Big Sam in place and Ashley to buy the club shortly – we’ve got to think Leighton would just jump at the chance of coming to Tyneside. He’s in England’s under-21 squad for the European Championships which start tomorrow in Holland so Sam may now be delayed in signing him before the tournament ends on 23rd June – or when England are eliminated. In fact negotiations probably need to be completed before then.

Leighton Baines and David Rosehnal

Three players for a total of ₤8.3M to go with the two players Sam moved in for a net gain of about ₤1.5M last week.
That would mean five players in – for a net of about ₤7M – not too bad – and really a good start for Sam since all these players will be available for the start of Newcastle’s pre-season training in early July – which is key.

The stories about Sol Campbell seemed to have dried up. Was there any posibility of us getting him in the first place? I know Harry R issued a hands off statement, but does that really have any impact in today’s day and age?

Since we didnt even bid, i doubt that he was ever Sam’s target. Either it was Sol testing the water or it was fabrication from the newspapers.

jacob – don’t think so because Harry just won’t sell – he’s no fool (unfortunately).

Valle – i think Sam would have loved to have Sol at Newcastle – since he seemed to rate him – he would have been good for Taylor et al – but we’ll have to move on – hey – it’s being reported we may even sign Ben Haim over weekend 😀

i think ben haim and rozehnal would make an excellent pairing at centre back with taylor and ramage as backup.my only worry is our midfield as i dont think emre, butt, dyer, duff, solano is world class.but maybe these players will thrive under allardyce.emre i think will do better but their are more talented players out there.maybes these players will get us through next season and into europe and then we can attract the bigger players.id love to see jouiquinn at the toon and maybes a sneaky bid for ballack!!?

Appreciate that this sounds like one of those “friend of a friend overheard someone in the pub” tales, but Shearer was sitting next to a mate of mine on the way down to the Watford game last month and got chatting. He told him that Sam would become manager that Weds (NUFC moved it forward when MAN C sacked Pearce), he said he beleived Owen would stay, that those with the wrong attitude would soon be booted out (Dyer I hope), that Sol Campbell was lined up and close (perhaps SA pulled the plug on that in light of him being confident of getting Ben Haim) and that Leighton Baines was about 80% done. Remember that this was before the press began naming Baines as a possible. Could be no truth in it, but…..

carl – surely Taylor has to start next season – and we think at center back. Anyway it will be interesting – at least there’s good competition for places at last.

Reports in Turkey are saying that we are after Tuncay Sanli, who is out of contract. This signing, along with he viduka, barton would make our goal scoring options awesome and ben haim, taylor, rozenhal, baines at the back aint bad either. All this and only spending £13.3 million, great change from souness times of spending that much on albert luque and amdy faye.

I´m still hoping on the prospect of landing coloccini, i think he would be an absolutely great signing.. and he should be available as well.. his yet to be fully reached potential is also way beyond a mid-table club in la liga

Bob – i saw that – and a few other clubs are supposedly also after him. But thought we had our 4 strikers for next season – think we’ll end up with 5 – not counting young Carroll.

andy – same here – he looked a very good player last year at the World Cup – and these Argentinians can really play – we’ll see – but haven’t seen any news on this one. Looks like Phil Jagielka will end up at Everton.

Allan u sure u not talking about yourself there?

Anyways, I think we still need to have one solid defender in the back. Im not so sure about Rozenhal? I think he may a good aquisition but I think we still need another centre back.

Outlaw – how about Fabricio Coloccini from Deportivo – he played for Argentina in last world cup and looked very good – he turned 25 last January and can only get better and would cost us around £5M – see comment from Andy above.

I think we’re good to go up front and in midfield, and as Sam has already said, will focus on the defence. After rejecing Sol last summer it was an odd story because his missus is a Geordie??? If we get the CB’s in this week who are lined up I’m happy with Taylor and Ramage aswell. Its then a case of nailing the Baines deal as this worries me that there’s no news and then a right back. I know Brown gets stick, but for £5m think he could do a good job?

i am really happy that we are strongly linked with Ben Hiem, i watched him quite a bit over the past few seasons and i beliee that he is a very good defender. strong, decent in the air, positioning looks good, knows his limits (unlike the Bramble’s of old who trys horrendous things on the footbal pitch for a CENTRE BACK) however he does seem to be lacking in acceleration and pace but im happy if he has a quick partner to cover if need be
