Newcastle Transfer Update on Ben Haim, Rosehnal and Baines

With so much seeming to go on every day as far as transfers are concerned at Newcastle here is an update on three players we feel certain are headed for the club. We’ll keep producing these updates as others move to the head of the queue. Our hope is that Ben Haim and Rosehnal will be signed by the end of the week.

Tal Ben Haim

There was all kinds of new about the Israeli defender yesterday and the fact that Chelsea are offering him ₤60K/week. Newcastle’s offer is less than that but the reaction of the fans yesterday seemed to be that if Ben Haim really wants to come to Newcastle he should accept the wage being offered – to show he’s not just after the best deal. That was exactly what happened with Joey Barton.
We would think Newcastle offers him a better choice – because he’d play a lot of games under Big Sam – plus he knows that to expect from him. Big Sam is fairly confident he has persuaded Ben Haim to join Newcastle because he will be almost guaranteed a first-team place on Tyneside.
We believe he must sign before the end of the week and tie this thing up before his marriage this Saturday.

David Rosehnal

Definite signing for about ₤2.5M – David will be good player at Newcastle. The fee seems to have dropped from an uintiial 3.3M – but not sure of the accuracy of that first figure. Very good value for the money. We expect the transfer of the 6’3” Czech International to be resolved before the end of the week. Sam has tracked Rosehnal for a few weeks now and we understand the deal is being done with PSG. As far as we know there is no competition since Borussia Dortmund pulled out when we upped the fee by ₤1M. David will provide solidity at the back and fight it out with Taylor and Ben Haim for center-back spots. Both Ben Haim and Taylor can also play right back.
The Journal is reporting today that a source close to PSG sporting director Alain Roche last night said the following about the transfer:

“The deal is close to being completed,” “There has been contact between the clubs and a fee between three and four million euros has been agreed.
“It is not quite there but there aren’t any problems expected from PSG and we already know that Rozenhal would be very happy with a move to the Premiership with Newcastle United.”

This transfer will definitely will happen in our view.

leighton-baines-21.jpg

Leighton Baines

Currently playing in the European Under-21 Championships for England with Taylor and Milner. Sam is reported to be going to watch the Under-21s play in Holland and will keep an eye out for Leighton. He’ll also get to touch base with two of our best players last season – Taylor and Milner. He’ll be able to let them know about his plans in more detail for next season. We think both Taylor and Milner are excited about their Newcastle futures and will both become outstanding professionals at the club. Two great lads who we are so pleased to have at Newcastle – they are an example to every young player.
While nothing much seems to have happened on this transfer over the last two weeks we feel this one is well along – but we now may have to wait until the end of England’s participation in the tournament for Baines to come our way. The fee will be around ₤5M.
You’ve got to believe Sam thinks he has a left back almost tied up to announce yesterday that Babayaro will be on his way out of Newcastle. This deal with Leighton is almost certain to happen.

Well – that’s an update on these three very good players who will cost Newcastle about ₤7.5M – a good price given their talent and future prospects.

A good start if the transfers happen . However we need a bigger squad as I am sure Sam knows to compete throughout the season allowing for injuries loss of form etc .
The Mike Ashley financial wranglings have gone quiet , which I assume is a good thing . I do hope MA ‘s financial revue starts quickly so BSA can be given a decent budget . It seems to me that every time NUFC is associated with a transfer target Spurs or seemingly everyone else gets interested in case they miss out (note the interest in Guily and Gudjohnson) . Sam need his budget clarified so he can go after the class acts and sign them to get the pre season off to a good start .

In the first part talking about Ben Haim, I think you meant Sidwell as opposed to Barton.

Tooner – no I did mean Barton – what I meant to say (and maybe it wasn’t too clear) was that Ben Haim should come to Newcastle even if ours is a lower offer than Chelsea’s. That’s similar to Joey Barton because he was apparently offered 10K/week more at West Ham but he still chose Newcastle – and he didn’t even interview with them. That’s good because it shows they are not just going for the best money.

Outlaw – he looks very good with a great left foot and has scored a few sizzling goals. He’s 22 so he can improve a lot particularly under Big Sam.
