Even if we only get five points from the first ten matches i hope fans dont start hammering Sam. At some point we have to give amanager enough time to get it right or we will continue to be a laughing stock. Sam is our manager get behind him.

John - don't want to get ahead of myself here.
The deal about the 4 points from the 15 teams is just a methodology to see how we are doing in the season on reaching 60 points - nothing more - and the extrapolation of 11 points was just that - don't want to be too serious about this. You're right - we don't want to overplay these things now. Definitely need to give Sam time - and hope Ashley will too - Sam's a very good manager for Newcastle - and we'll just need to be patient and see how we do next season. If we can do top six - that would be a very successful season.

I think the Bolton game will be a really tough one.
The Bolton players will be really fired up against their old gaffer and out to show him that they're better than his new crew.
Although I think Sam will get our players fired up for it - they will be benifitiing from a couple of months of his tutolage and not a couple of years. If we heve 3 new players in the back 4 (effectively an entire new unit) and a striking partnership playing competitively for the first time ever, then I'm not so certain we'll be winning that one. Personally I'd take a draw and a win would be bonus. I think Sam will be looking for a gutsy deffensive performance at the Rebok not bagging a load of goals.
The one thing that could play really well in our favour however is that Sam will know inside and out the weeknesses of the Bolton Squad.

If we are simply talking about "aims" then fine I aim that Newcastle win every game next season, everone happy? - No because we know it won't happen and nor will us winning every home game and drawing every away that is not against a top for team!

Nor is it a good idea to start extrapolating final points totals based on the first six games. We could have also carried our form from the end of the 05/06 season when Roeder was caretaker into the next season and assumed that we would have qualified for the champions league in 06/07, but it didn't happen did it?

All I am saying is that expectation have to be realistic, especialy in the early, transisitional phase of the new regime, it is our unrealistic expectations which could get Alladyce the boot prematurely.

In reality we have no idea how next season will pan out as we have a small squad right now, and some of the failures are still in it (carr, babayaro, dyer, luque). Let's at least wait to see what happens here and in the first few matches before predicting final points totals.

well beat derby no bother, but i reckon wel lose against arsenal and the game against villa cud b a draw! lets remember that in the last few seasons, we hav got less than 5 or six points from our opening month of matches, hopefully this will change!

John - it's something to aim for - but it's not totally unrealistic - and you cannot really say it's a tough 6 games - heck Arsenal - by Wenger's own admission are happy to get a point at St. James'.

chris - i put something up on the major news stories on Rosehnal and Hyypia. This these two would be good but we probably need to look at some others. Curtis Davis is available from WBA for 10M - he would be good.

That is totally unrealisitic, we never start a season that well and I susepect we will have only 1 point on the board from the first two games, I think allardyce will do well for us overall but I wouldn't expect too much from the first few games, the team will need to get used to the new style of play and the first two games are tough games. I think a realistic target would be 11 pts:

Win against Villa, Wigan & Derby,
Draw against Arsenal & Boro,
Lose to Bolton

Interesting theory! Great if it were to occur.

Can't see us beating Bolton away mind you!!

The Arsenal game has already been moved - I admire your optimism though it all depends on who we can get in and if the manager can rid us of the dead wood - Carr, Babayaro possibly Dyer
