Newcastle Transfer Update on Gokdeniz Karadeniz

The previous news was that our competition for Karadeniz was Bolton. Yesterday, Sammy Lee came out and said he is not a target for Bolton. That may be both good and bad news for us – and there also other teams after him – who seem to be ahead of Newcastle on this one.

Turkish Winger Gokdeniz Karadeniz

The news on Bolton’s interest in the Turk is that Sammy Lee has shown some interest in the player but says he has not seen enough of him to convince him to make a bid.
This is what Sammy had to say to the Bolton news:

“We’ve had some good reports and DVDs of the player, but he didn’t play a full game and it would be wrong of us to take a risk on a player on the strength of 25 minutes,”
“And I don’t know where anyone got the idea that we are locked in a battle’. You read things in some of the papers and you wonder where it comes from.
“But it’s the silly season and people seem to be using Bolton Wanderers to create interest in players.”

Now we thought if Bolton had been after him that was good because it probably meant that Sam Allardyce had already had tabs on him at Bolton. The bad news is maybe that’s not the case now.

His agent Serdar Fafal confirmed yesterday:

“He wants to go, every player from Turkey wants to test himself and there is no bigger stage than the Premier League.”
“There is interest from Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Blackburn, there are many teams looking at him but he has a contract with Trabzon, so at the moment we will have to see what talks happen.”

Apparently Middlesbrough have an advantage over Newcastle – as they are already in Istanbul where they are completing the signing of striker Tuncay Sanli – and presumably will also speak with Karadeniz while over there.
Karadeniz is an experienced international midfielder with over 30 caps and 5 goals for Turkey. He usually plays attacking midfielder but has played as a striker and also in defense, for his club team Trabzon. Primarily though he is an attack-minded midfielder with an eye for goal – and we know Sam is on the lookout for midfielders who can hit the net.
Gokdeniz is widely regarded in Turkey as one of the best talents to come out of Trabzon’s famous youth academy.
However, Gokdeniz may not be a priority target for Newcastle until we have signed a couple of defenders. But there again if we don’t move now one of the other clubs will probably snap him up – and if that happens we can only assume he was not a high priority target for Big Sam – and maybe he has other fish to fry.
The fee is said to be £1M for the 27 year old Turk and we are being told that shortly after Sam arrived at Newcastle he did have a talk with Emre about Karadeniz.
Gokdeniz seems a bargain and we probably need another left winger with Duff injured and Alan O’Brien possibly going out on loan to Wolves for next season.

Wow, you guys are up early ????

I think he could well be a good player but we’re not short on midfielders, I’d rather see some defensive players coming in first.

Owen – yes – so do we – but he still looks a good player – surely we can do parallel transfers. But as we said maybe Sam has other potential midfield signings in the offing.

Don’t forget Charlie N’Zogbia plays on the left.

John – yes – well aware of that – but if O’Brien goes on loan he’ll be the only left winger – although i guess Milner can also play that side. There again N’Zogbia needs to be given a run in the team – so he can show what he is capable of.

er, if o’brien goes on loan, n’zogbia will be our only left winger?

    damien duff anyone?

anyway, the bit that made me laugh was Lee’s quote:
“But it’s the silly season and people seem to be using Bolton Wanderers to create interest in players.”
LOL yes, because Bolton are such a high profile club! If he wants to know what its like to be used to create interest, he need look no further than us, the number of players whose agents claim we’re after them (Mido, anyone?)

    made me chuckle anyway 🙂

well as a turk who watches the premier division i would say Gokdeniz could make a good addition in any premier leauge team,he has to leave turkey because of personal problems and scandals with mafia included..he is a talented player who i think is more useful than Duff(as he can play both wings and FW)
