Newcastle Finally Capture Rozehnal from PSG

Sky Sports is reporting that Pavel Zika – David Rozehnal’s agent – has claimed that an agreement is in place to take the PSG defender to Newcastle for around ₤3M. Newcastle have been after Rozehnal for a few weeks now and initially saw off competition from Burussia Dortmund and now it seems the latest team to come in at the last minute for Rozehnal – UEFA Cup Champions Sevilla – have also failed to lure Rozehnal.

David Rozehnal

This is good news for Sam Allardyce although no official statement has yet come from Newcastle about the deal. Agent Pavel Zika did say that David would decide between Newcastle and Sevilla today – and he seems good to his word. Reports at the beginning of the week put Newcastle as favorites to land the Czech Republic international, especially after Borussia Dortmund withdrew their interest.

Rozehnal’s agent Zika had announced earlier on Friday that Newcastle had only an even chance of getting the player, with Sevilla the other club in the running. But Zika has now told the Czech media that Newcastle have won the race to sign Rozehnal and he told Idnes:.

“We have reached a final agreement. David moves to Newcastle.”

This is a good end to the week for Newcastle fans as we also seem to have also captured Alan Smith from Manchester United for ₤3.5M. Neither of these players has signed yet – but agreements now seem to be in place for both of them. We are also one of three clubs in the running for right back Luke Young of Charlton who is priced at ₤3M.

At long last it seems we are drafting some defenders into the squad. It is expected Steven Taylor will form a partnership with the 6′ 3″ Rozehnal at the heart of Newcastle’s defense next season. Rozehnal has represented the Czech Republic 26 times.

It’s about bluddy time. Looks like the agent was just trying to get a few more quid out of us and hoping we would put in a better offer by the end of the day.

2 FB’s and 1 CB is all we need now.

Pete – right – good end to the week – lots of Newcastle news today – most of it good. I have a feeling this guy is going to be one of Sam’s specials – really good – of course i’m also very biased 😀

I hope he’s worth it. And this Zika bloke is a great advertisment for banning football agents. Top tosser.

He was in the french league team of the year, so can’t be too bad. Looks like a rough no nonsense defender we have missed. Although I’ve not seen much of him. He will make a good partner for taylor with another experienced centre half to come in as well hopefully. 3 million isn’t bad for a first choice international defender from the 10th best team. Hopefully a pair of fullbacks and we’ll be ok. Can’t help thinking we need two left backs though as we have no one at all if Baba goes (which hoepfully he will). Hopefully its the start of the transfer frenzy!

Ed, bias, and blind optimism are pre-requisites for many a Toon supporter, It’s what keeps us going. I just hope that Rozehnal has agreed to sign and we wrap it up quickly. Ross you’re right, his agent is a Top Tosser.

Aye, this agent of his has been a right motor-mouth in the press; no doubt to inflate fees so he can pocket as much of the resulting profit as possible. Disgraceful.

However, that’s not what is important here; what is relevant is that we’ve signed a player who can hold the line — he was voted into the Ligue 1’s team of the year despite playing in a particularly naff side. This tells me that he has a strong character, which is what our back line is crying out for. £3 million for a central defender reaching prime age? A good deal, I think.

Now for some full-backs and another centre back. Loan out the kids to Championship clubs.

HE’s a class act. I follow the Czech NAtional team and I can see he is quality. He’s big, strong, fairly quick, good in the air, and never flinches in tackles. You don’t get 26 caps for the Czech Republic if you’re a mug!

I really hope this is a done deal. Now BSA please get in 2 class fullbacks and show Baba and Carr the door.

Smith would be a great asset, look what he did against Roma. But it doe’s beg the question about the other srikers. Could this just be paper tosh……

Ed Harrison – I totally agree with you. I think BSA has pulled a trick out the bag with Rozenhal, and i’m sure he will prove to be an excellent acquisition for the Toon. Hopefully both this and Smith’s transfer can be confirmed as soon as possible, which will allow for the club to focus its full attention towards other targets.

about smith..i hope that’s just trash talk…no offence…i know that most of you would love to see him at the club, but i personally think we don’t need him, plus i don’t like him… but still, getting rozehnal is a great news…cheers BSA 🙂 “Top 4″…watch out!!! 🙂

great news about roz if true but i will also be pleased about smith as he can play up front or in mid field.the down side of him is his rash tackling which could lead to a few yellow and red cards.

Nightfall – Regarding Smith, I don’t feel position wise we particually need Smith but he’s an English Lionheart and he will add tenaciousness, passion, commitment and a bit of bite to the cause, much like Taylor does and Barton surely will. I think BSA might use him in an attacking midfield role with maybe Emre leaving?

if emre is leaving then i guess it’s fine but i would prefer a tireless defensive midfielder… if we’re already on a midfielder hunt…

btw…arsenal lost their leader…chance for us maybe?

If BSA can gel all the new players in with the existing, then just cant wait for new season.

Getting Rozehnal in seem as a good piece of business and I’m happy we got him (hopefully it won’t be any f**k ups regarding the deal).

Regarding Smith; if the reports are true and we sign him I wouldn’t mind a sale of Shola to be honest (of course only if both Owen and Martins stay).

    – S Appiah would certainly fit in, I like the idea of swaping Emre with Fenerbahce, hes never really done it for me at NUFC. I think Diop of Fulham is a similar sort of player and would cost quite a bit less

Great, Alan Smith, another thug to join the Toon. Who next, Robbie Savage, re-sign Big Dunc,…blah blah.
While I know Smith is a good player, I would only be happy if he signed for us IF Ameobi was sold AND IF Owen and Oba stay. If those three go, I couldn’t care less if Smith came as he and Viduka would be promising and there’d be cash to go after another rocket propelled striker.
As for Rozza – FM2007 does’nt rate him that highly but he looks far better than Bramble – so that’ll do me. You have to wonder though, if he’s really that good, and he can’t be that bad, playing for PSG like, then why would PSG sell him for so little? Or sell him at all?
