Press speculation does nothing more than raise a lot of peoples blood pressure.
All we really know for sure about Arsenal wanting Martins at the moment is that they have sold Henry and are looking for a replacement, and that Wenger stated last year that he admired Martins.

I for one do not think that the Arsenal supporters would be entirely satisfied with Oba replacing Henry, they will want a £20 million + player.

On the other hand, should it not say something to us as fans that Owen would have wanted to have a buyout clause as low as £9m, when we paid Real £17m for him? Is that the attitude of someone that wants to stay in the club? Have we become so desperate for one person that we do not stop for a moment to think that perhaps, the club should cut its losses and go with players who will give verything for the club? Players in the mould of Alan, who would have walked into places like Manchester United (and a chestful of medals) and yet still stayed. Time to reward loyalty, place a £36m buyout clause un Taylor's contract for starters, and I am sure the boy will accept that without a moment's pause.

But sometimes if you put a big figure in the clause that can be helpful to the club. The problem is players who want a lower sum for a release clause because in that they will easily leave.

I hope Owen stays at Newcastle even if it means just one more season.

I've just looked at sky sports news Arsenal section, there is not a single mention of them being linked to Martins or Owen and as for the Mirror printing the story about Alan Smith last Friday I think the courts should make them give anyone who bought it(The Mirror)a refund, what's to stop them printing anything they like to sell a paper.

Its a real blow to Newcastle to have clauses in Both Owen and Martins contracts.Just goes to show that Newcastle have no business sense even when Freddy Shepherd sells his stake in the club he still haunts the club.Buys Owen for 17 million and then puts a clause of 9 million in his contract how that makes sense is beyond me.Well we cant do anything about it but just hope that Owen shows abit of loyailty he owes us soo much it be really nice if both of them signed new contracts with no clauses in it thats the way it should be because the club should be in control if they want to sell him or not it shouldnt be the players choice they get payed to do one thing and thats play football whats the point of signing a 4 year contract if your not going to honour it????Well if they go i hope especially Owen gets injured again and break his 2 legs this time.I would replace them with Jan Klass Huntelaar i think he will turn into one of the best strikers in the world class act and go for Defoe too with Bent on his way to spurs could be an option. He is young enough scores goals has pace and what i liked about him last season was he didnt get into a sulk when he was on the bench he just got on with it and when he came on tryed to impress
