It seems that ever since Sam Allardyce left Bolton Wanderers last month – his old Chairman Phil Gartside has said some unprofessional and childish things about Sam. It certainly looks like sour grapes from our viewpoint with Gartside claiming Bolton were a bigger club and other things – that even suggest some jealousy.
Well Sam has hit back today and we’ll look at what Sam (always outspoken) had to say about his former Irish Chairman.
Allardyce and Gartside Applaud Gary Speed Goal
Allardyce told The Sun today:
“Gartside reckoned I wouldn’t have got the Bolton job if I was applying for it now and we would never have signed El-Hadji Diouf or Nicolas Anelka if it wasn’t for Sammy Lee,” “He also claimed Sammy did more of the coaching than me and was basically the better man. I began to wonder whether I’d done anything at Bolton.
Did we dream Bolton came from nowhere to become a top Premier League team and qualify for Europe? Was it an illusion or something?. “Gartside just sounded sad and bitter.”
“If I’d ever had any doubts about leaving Bolton, that justified to me that I was right to go.”
Not sure why these things happen in football but to us it’s all rather unprofessional – though entertaining. Sam also should be complimented for what he did at Bolton because certainly his personality seemed to be a major force in their success.
The players all seem to talk highly of Sam also – so we exepct there is some disappointment that Sam did finally move on. We’ll just have to wait and see how Sammy Lee does at Bolton.
But it looks like our first game under Sam at the Reebok Stadium on August 11th will have an electric atmosphere – for multiple reasons.
