Geremi, Edmilson and Gudjohnsen All To Join Newcastle?

There is lots of news on Newcastle United this morning in the press as training begins at Little Benton and the players jet off tomorrow for Austria and their 10 day training camp.

We are linked with even more players this morning – so let’s look at three of them and see what’s real and what’s not with all the press talk. We think all three of these players are on their way to Newcastle and the Geremi deal is already done and dusted.

Sam Allardyce

We’d also like your opinion ion these deals – and whether you think they are real or not. With Sam doing so well in the transfer market and bringing in good players for reasonable – and even small – fees.

It certainly looks like there’s a new dawn at Newcastle – but this time it’s not false – and the sun will really come up and shine.

We think he’ll sign for ₤2M this afternoon – this is a signing on fee for the player himself. . The only surprise here is the fee – but this was made clear this afternoon that it is indeed a signing on fee paid directly to Geremi himself – no wonder he was keen to come to Tyneside.  Still a very good deal – said to be for 3 years for the 28 year old – and we saw off competition from Aston Villa and probably other clubs. At the very least Geremi will be a good utility player for the squad.

We know that a Newcastle delegation is in Barcelona today trying to tie this deal up – and although we know there’s competition from AC Milan we feel confident the Brazilian will sign for Newcastle. He was reportedly very impressed with the way Sam went about the transfer and Sam even took time out to discuss the move with Edmilson’s wife. We think Sam’s persuasive powers have already done the trick here. May sign immediately or there will be an agreement to sign in January – with only a small fee involved. Edmilson will add class and International experience to the squad – and will help the young defenders like Steven Taylor along. We suspect Edmilson will agree to join Newcastle on January 1st next year when he is fully fit – and that will lower the fee for Newcastle – another good bit of negotiation by Allardyce.
In passing we also expect Taylor to become a full England international in August based on his heroics in the Under-21 championships recently completed.

We think this may be a surprise signing for us. The reports have always been that we’ll sign him only if Martins or Owen leave the club – but we feel that Sam wants him regardless of these strikers. The fee being quoted in some papers this morning is a low ₤4.5M but we think the delegation to Barcelona has the goal to tie up both Edmilson and Gudjohnsen deals as soon as they can. This is no more than a hunch on our part from reading all the reports going around.

But we don’t believe there is so much work going into this for only a possible signing – we think it’s the real deal. Newcastle will be helped by Eidur’s admiration for the ex- Bolton manager – from Gudjohnsen’s two seasons at the Lancashire club in the late 1990s.

We belive there is a good chance that all three players will join Newcastle sooner rather than later.

That’s what we think – let us know your opinions and ideas on this – we certainly need to expand our squad and now seems a good time given training has just started.

I am hoping that we sign all 3, however I am concerned at Edmilson’s wage demands. I hope that he is not going to be another Marcelino etc, esp as he is injured…….

They would all be good signings, hopefully the rumours of £100,000 a week wages for Edmilson are exaggerated and hopefully the injury is properly investigated. I agree that we should sign Gudjohnson regardless, he will push ameobi down the pecking order and will give us an excellent set of forwards.

    Geremi, brilliant.

Edmilson, good player, huge wages, may well breakdown….another Woodgate?

Gudjohnson, scores goals but leaves us with Owen, Martins, Ameobi, Viduka, Caroll and Gudjohnson. Is Sam expecting one(or even two) of these to leave? Or is it that he wants player to really fight for places? Lets hope it doesn’t impede young Caroll’s progress and leave Ameobi feeling disillusioned with a lack of starts. Having said that Owen and Viduka have long injury lists and if Ameobi’s hip flares up again…..

    Oh the variables!

Yeah me too, If what is being reported is true and he wants 100k per week, thats quite alot, I’m sure we could be able to find another player that is younger, not as injury prone and wants less money then edmilson. Also what is happening with the Beye transfer of late, its gone quiet for a few days now.

Geremi should be very good addition but I’m a little bit concerned about bringing “great” players from Stamford that despite being so good didn’t play too much there. Babayaro, Duff and even Parker came with big future at St James’ but I hope Geremi really do well.
Gudjohnsen is one of the most underestimated strikers in Europe. If get a chance to play every week he can be great but will he play? with Viduka, Oba and Owen it won’t be so easy but maybe Sam know Oba will go (hope to Italy not Arsenal because you should avoid selling stars to the rivals). what about Ameobi (maybe it is time to go) and young Carroll (hope he will get some chances)
Edmilson… big wages and uncertain fitness. I’m not sure about commitment of some older Brazlian stars who have won so much already.
There are no word about Beye for some time but hope we will capture him

Since I am from Iceland and a hardcore Newcastle United fan, Eidur joining Newcastle would be a dream come true. He can play as a striker and an attacking midfielder and would be a great asset to the club. Edmilson is a great player and with him, Rozenhal, Taylor and Hauntington fighting for the central defence positions we should have that area covered.

Cicero and Beastie I think the same about loaning young players. they have little chance to play enough to gain some experience and be satisfied. we can’t make mistakes like Roeder who didn’t let Alan O’Brien go on loan and didn’t use him even in games we were without Duff and N’Zogbia and our season was already lost…

Edmilson sure brings a wily and experienced head, but does he still have the passion to play for Newcastle? Especially when we aren’t playing in Europe. He is also quite costly and am not convinced he is a player Steven Taylor would easily benefit from playing beside and one that would help youngsters anyway. Though pulling a name like Edmilson would be quite a statement to other clubs in the Premiership and while i’m not 100% he is the right acquisition, his signature would be quite a coup.

Gudjohnson would be fantastic signing for the Toon! not only is he an experienced campaigner he is also an absolutely sick player. He isn’t too far from being Barcelona quality so having this type of player at the Toon would be awesome. Though where he will fit is a toughie, not sure if he is capable of playing on the wing? There will probably be a departure of some sort for his signature.

Geremi is a handy substitute, nothing more. He’s quite a solid performer that will add some depth to our team.

Would of loved to have seen us sign Thiago Motta from Barca, the kid has bucketloads of talent!

if we got geremi, now all we need are:
LB (shorey, bridge, baines, drenthe) = 5 mio
    CB coloccini = 2,4 mio
    RCB beye = 5 mio
DMC if we’re not going after a.diarra, lassana diarra looks VERY promising = 3 mio
and if martins leaves, i think we should go after lita (martins -13 mio, lita 5 mio)
    martins…he’s explosive…but that’s it…his first touch is terrible and he’s not a team player so i think he’s expendable…
if we look at facts above we can see that we can have one of the best teams for only 8 mio…

    any comment?

Great news if we can pull off all these signings. We need a much bigger squad for next season if we are to progress on all fronts, so competition for places is essential. Agree with getting Carroll out on loan next season, to gain first team experience. Would also take Rigters if we can and then loan him out (maybe to Celtic or Blackburn), but he is certainly one for the future and at a bargain price too. If the rumours about Bridge and Diarra fro Chelski are also true, then we would suddenly have a very good squad, especially if Beye comes along as well.

nightfall a lot of names that are also on my wish list (especially Drenthe). yeah martins has a lot to offer but also a lot to improve and I’m not sure he will improve so 13M is nice amount if he decides to leave (and anybody will pay that) but only if Sam has someone good enough to replace him. one more about Martins what is annoying is differnces between his words and others like it was at Watford or about gun attack in Lagos. I like players good not only on field but off too that I can trust.

Get them all. All quality signings who will add so much to the team.

If we get these players then we are pretty much set until January at least. We still need a left back better than Babayaro though! This should be our next priority. Nicky Shorey or Leighton Baines would be great although I would like to see a more established international player come in to play at left back.

I am sure Sam knows we need a left back, unless he has seen a “new” Babayaro. Babayaro used to be a good player.. not sure if he can regain that form though.

Edmilson will be excellent for us. Brazillians are usually very determined people. He is a born again christian and will be no trouble for us at all. It’s 2007 not 1997 his knee will be fine once the specialists put it right.

People have come back from much worse injuries than Edmilson’s. Also what’s 80K a week when you would pay a fee of 6-7 Million for an average english player? Plus 30-40K wages on top of that?

i personally trust Martins, its the Nigerian police that i dont trust. the whole country is full of corruption. Nigeria does seem to be the new columbia where fans will take it into there own hands if their players fail to perform or show up!
Anyways onto the signings, as i posted before (under DAVE) i believe this is a very important week for us. Martins and Owen situation needs sorting by Friday, Gudjohnson would be a great signing as long as its not a replacement for Owen or Martins. I believe that ameobi should be given 6 months at most to prove that he is good enough to play for our club.
Geremi and edmilson would be great additions to the club aswell, raising the clubs profile in their home countries aswell and possibly giving the club an avenue to tap into the resource these countries have.
personally i believe that the club should take a look at rodriguez from villerreal. this guy is a world class yound centre back and we need competition for places especially in defence. alot of people are saying to buy EITHER Baines, Shorey, Bridges or Drenthe. i personally think that we should get Bridges as first team choice and Drenthe or Baines for back up and also we need to push for Sagna, he has been touted about alot and think he would be another good addition.
I think this is paper talk im unsure but i read that Tom Huddlestone (Spurs) was going to Reading. I nearly fell off my chair when i read this. Over the last two seasons he has improved 200%. If Spurs do really want to throw this talent away i would beg Big Sam to get his fishing net out and catch him before he gets away. Hes very athletic, one hell of a passing range and passionate about his football. He would make a superb addition to the squad.
this season if very important aswell for our youngsters. they really need to push onto the next level now and some will and some wont. get krul, huntington, edgar, carrol out to good championship clubs chasing promotion. sending them to struggling clubs doesnt sit with me, getting them to a successful club chasing a prize will breed a winning mentality.
as far as i have read the plan is to be challenging for the title, we need to bring on our youth and bring some more talent to the club and get them the experience that they need.
if we get edmilson and geremi and gudjohnson then we have experience throughout the squad and a few youthful additions will give us a strong squad. My next few signings would be-
    Huddlestone Tottenham(touted at £3mill)
    Bridge Chelski(guessing around £3.5mill)
    Baines Wigan(£4.5mill)
    Rodriguez Villerreal(£9.75mill)
    Geremi Chelski(£2.5mill)
    Edmilson Barca(£3mill)
    Gudjohnson Barca(£8mill)
Rigters NAC(£500k) then loan him out to Norwich
    M Richards Man City(£12mill)
thanks for reading give me your thoughts on my wish list……

If we can land all three then add a good left back before August, then I think we will have a team that should push for a top 6 finish.
Regards Edmilsons wages – he’s basically saying he doesn’t want a pay cut, which is reasonable. He will also increase the value of the Newcastle United brand within Brazil, which is very good for the long term future footballing and financial future of the club, so I think its decent business.
A strike force of Owen, Viduka, Martins and Gudjonson with Luque, Ameobi, Carrol and Triosi as backup next season is pretty decent strikeforce. Personally I expect Shola to go unless he can really prove himself to the manager now that he is injury free. Triosi and Carrol out on loan for the season would be a good thing – Luque has his work cut out to prove himself or I think he will be on his way to, Hopefully Sam is good at moving players on as well as bringing them in (an often overlooked important skill in management).

i appear to be the only one who isn’t delighted with the geremi signing. In my opinion he’s an average, ageing premiership player who should play for an average team (eg villa, boro ect) and not for a team challenging for the top 4. Fair enough if he’s just a squad player who maybe starts 5 games in the season and comes off the bench for 10 more or so, but he’s doing this at Chelsea. One would imagine he’s moving to Newcastle for FIRST TEAM FOOTBALL-if he gets it we’re in trouble. Sam should use some of the cash to sign real quality players-like gudjohnesn and defenders (2xCB,2xLB,1xRB). I’m not so sure about Edmilson, especially on the reported wage(though ashley can afford it!!!). Brazil don’t often produce real quality CBs, and he’s not Barcelona’s first choice CB. I would prefer a slightly younger German CB, eg Metzelder or the argentinian coloccini, both of whom would be equally good mentors to taylor with their experience without being too old too quickly. but i haven’t actually seen edmilson play too often so i dont’ want to be too harsh!.

i also think martins should stay. He does work hard and he’s very quick with a huge leap and real strength. He was frustrating at times last season but that was because he didn’t get the service from the midfield. He’s young and will get better and should stay. I’d love to know what others think about Emre. In my opinion he’s inconsistent and lazy-particualrly away from home- and should go. I’d like to see a move for nolan or an equally determined box to box player who would always give his all and wouldn’t be so frustrating. Also an audacious move for tevez-just to see- before any move for gudjonsen. Ameobi and Luque out, strikeforce next season: Owen, MArtins, Viduka,Gudjonsen,Carrol.

reliable source told me today that we’re signing dabo for £4m and shearer is coming out of retirement to lead the line alongside Bellamy(£14m). Alladyce is considering resingning Boumsong for £6m and Harper will be made captain.

I agree, sell Emre and relpace him with someone who has more pace and gives 100% all match. Will be interesting to see if Butt and Barton can form a good partnership in midfield (provided BSA plays a 4-4-2 formation). I though Butt played really well last season and with him playing as a defensive midfielder and Barton making runs from box to box, it could work. With 2 from Milner, Dyer, Duff and N’zogbia on the wings (provided they don’t leave or get replaced), plenty of choices could be created for whichever 2 strikers we have playing.

I think Emre will be a different player next season. I really think Parker had a negative effect on the midfield, and we will see a real difference with Barton and Emre as a partnership. Who knows perhaps Sam has Edmilson in mind to play in centre midfield with Barton? I know Edmilson can play defensive midfield so it might be worth trying him, he’s very good on the ball and has always looked quick and athletic. He could be just what we need in midfield.. 😀

As long as we start passing forwards and down the flanks rather than sideways like last season we should be OK!

I’m not too sure if well get Gudjohnsen but I feel he’d add some definate class. Whoever we do or don’t get, we are heading in the right direction and for the first time since wor Bobby i’m actually looking forward in anticipation to the new season. Toon all the way baby
