Yes probably to ward off competition, Geremi is a very loyal player and I think he will be at the club for at least 3 years. He may even finish his career here.

I think he will do very well. You might be suprised where Sam decides to play him though.

It looks like the 2M is a signing on fee paid to Geremi – wow. Probably to ward off competition – but he gets 2M and he hasn’t kicked a ball for the club yet.

I find it very interesting that Big Sam appears to be collating a squad of forwards and “utility” players. From Sam’s preperations from his Bolton days I can understand the different types of forwards he would want for different opposition and am very intrigued as to how the midfield and defence will line up. He could play 3,4 or 5 at the back, 3,4 or 5 in midfield and 1,2 or 3 up front and whether he plays wingers or not as well as having the option of changing formation without using subs. If, as anticpated, another centre half and left back come in on top of the present 3 mentioned I would suggest we have a very strong squad but would like to see real quality at CB and LB. Woodgate and Drenthe maybe.

A very good buy I think. With both Shearer and Robert leaving we were short on quality set piece takers (Solano is good but a bit patchy – likewise Milner). People are talking about positional versatility for injury cover, but it can be really important during a match as well. Having players who can switch positions to cope with different scenarios during a game is huge. This can be really important for killing off a game you are winning – something we are always bad at. People like Barton, Geremi and even Edmilson and Gudjonson if we get them are the kind of players who can change a 4-4-2 into a 5-4-1 without the manager having to change the players on the pitch – while still keeping the atacking threat through their creativity to mean that the opposition have to think twice about overcommiting.

Â£2 Million is a bargain for Geremi. Boro fans have been hoping to see him back at Boro as they love him there. He played very well for Boro and I think people have a short memory when it comes to football (except me!)

He played full back for Chelsea but his more Natural position is on the right wing or even centre midfield. He is full of energy, a good free kick taker and very creative. He also scored 7 goals in around 33 games for Middlesbrough so potentially he could score 10 goals for us – depends on his position of course.

I would like to see him play on the right wing but I have a feeling he will be right back until we sign someone or Edmilson becomes fit again. We will see..

Stephen – said to be a free ever since it was first mentionbed a couple weeks back. He signed for Chelsea in 2003 – and we assume it was 4 year contract. However – I just looked back on the news when he signed in 2003 – and it says he signed a 5 year contract so maybe there’s a small fee for him – and of course Chelsea would want to get something for him now rather than wait next year.

Ian – well said – just reviewing all the info out there on Gudjohnsen and to us it looks like Sam wants him regardless of whether Owen or Matins will be leaving. We think both of them will stay. And in Martins case he should stay – because Sam can do a lot for him – given his tendency to go off track a bit off the field. He should have a talk with El Diouf.

Very good signing for us.Does anyone know how much we bought him for i thought it was a free but Sky Sports said it was for 2 million its abit strange because i thought he was out of contract????

Big Sam is doing a very good job not like Roeder last season who waited to the last minute to buy players and failed with the likes of Woody you can see Big Sam means business and not just with transfers he is doing good stuff with his backroom staff i am very impressed.

Need a left back now i go for Bridge if not him Nicky Shorey prefer him to Baines ii anyone saw Shorey for Reading last season he has class and has alot of energy like Reading didnt stop to the last minute i think Baines is abit over rated but would prefer him to Babayaro anyways ha

I agree Geremi is more than good enough to play right-back for us – he’ll be perfect playing with milner/dyer/solano/whoever plays right-wing because he’ll help support the attacks and can actually deliver a decent pass at the end unlike Mr Carr. People might say that could leave us vunerable but just look at G. Neville for the mancs, he’s made a living from leaving them vunerable at the back!

Whether Geremi signs or not, isn’t it good to see we now have a manager with a little bit of transfer experience. If Geremi signs on a free, then that’s four international players signed for Â£700k less than Albert Luque!!!

I have actually met Glenn Roeder and he is a smashing man, but I don’t know if her could persuade me to play for the toon, and its always been my dream!

Now that Owen appears to be staying, and no one’s making a bid for Martins at present, I appreciate the toon now have 5/6 strikers. However, I would love to see Sam make his move for Gudjohnsen, as I think the man’s pure class and would transform the team. The Daily Mail suggests we will make a move today, but I feel this is unlikely unless someone leaves.

I wpuld like to see Geremi at right back, he is a good worker and can get up and down the pitch. him at right back with Milner in front of him can surely cause some damage. People are always talking about defenders overlapping and I think those two would make a great combination. I also agree that we do still need to buy natural defenders for set positions rather than versatility. Dont get me wrong versatility works when you are down on your luck with injuries but with any luck we wont have as many of these this season. I think a lot of last seasons team need to prove themselves this year because they let us down big style. (Emre, Solano, to name a few) get rid of babyarro and carr who are both a waste of time.

Geremi is a very under estimated player. He covered the right back position/wing back position for Chelsea but played his best football at Middlesbrough on the right wing.

I would like to see him going forward more on the wing as he is talented. People under estimate how good of a player Geremi is because you haven’t seen him much. I think he will be a great signing for us, finally we have someone who can play right back or on the right wing.

Edmilson will be outstanding for us, I don’t see why people can’t see that. Another Bramble? :/

I’d welcome anyone’s views who has seen Geremi play a few games.

He’s not really a player that’s mentioned that much. If I have seen him play, I can’t recall him standing out (good or bad).

It’s useful to have a utility player. Is he good enough to get in the starting line up? Maybe at right back?
