Sign the ice man!
As an attacking force you wont get any one to replace Shearer, but Gudjohnsen comes quite close. If we have serious aspirations to become one of the top four in the country.we will have to recruit the best we possibly can,so that at all times we have 16 world class players available for selection for every match.Injuries over a season are unavoidable,but with strength in depth there will always be ready made replasements who will give their all to get a good run in the team.

I say sign him. It may seem we are front heavy, but 1) as mentioned all the big 4 have four good forwards, 2) MO’s unquenchable thirst for injury, 3) Martin’s being a marked man, or ya know.. just needing to skip a game for a little personal time in the hotel, all = Gud-johnson being a gud-choice.

Arthur – Not sure Riquelme is a valid possibility – but would never rule out Sam’s persuasive qualities. To me the big signings to improve our squad will come next summer. And maybe one big one this summer. The squad that Sam took over wasn’t that bad really – if the players would only play to their potential. Sam will ensure that – and I think the players he has signed are solid dependable types – excellent players for the squad =- and some – like Rozehnal (and Viduka) could become outstanding at the club. Last time I was this upbeat on Newcastle was when we signed the great Bobby Robson in 1999 – and i mean great.

I think Eider is a great player especially from what we sore at Chelsea, but at barcelona he has not been the same. He has lost his pace and he is not as fit as he once was. I think what we should do is keep taps on him and make a decision soon on Martins or Owen and if they are leaving.

I would like t see him in a black and white shirt next season. And I think we need him, because he can play attacking midfield and in the attacking line. So it would be a great singing, but….
There is something special created by the story that we will have a big name signing and I don’t beleive Gudjohnson is that signing. So what if this big name signing is Riquelme. Without having a doubt on the class of Gudjohnson, but than I think we should defenitely bring in Riquelme and not Gudjohnson. Because if we should have them both then I think that area of the team is overcrowded and that is not good for a team which has to be rebuilt. But 2 big questions;

- What about the Riquelme story, I think this is just a rumour launched by fans. Or am I wrong?

- Will Oba and Owen stay? I thinks so, but I will be sure at 31 August at midnight .

i don’t think we need him…well…i do prefer him over alan smith…, but still…getting gud means that our youngsters will not get as much opportunities as they should (milner, n’zogbia,…)… we have too many attackers for non-european season…, so…don’t sign him!

Steve Martins is still very young (relatively) the consistency tends to come with a little bit of maturity and experience (and can be helped by good guidance from a good manager) I think he is worth holding onto I think working along side Viduka and Owen will also help him get his off the field preparation right as well.

I agree that we may not necessarily need him at the minute, as we are currently full up front, but a player like him mcan only make us a better team and create healthy competition for places. He is so versatile that he could be used in many different ways. Having also worked with BSA before, he will know his methods and ways of working, which was one of the reason we wanted to sign Tal Ben Haim, so he can help the other players to get used to working with Sam.

I really hope this goes through. He has all the attributes to be the missing link in our team. Strong, clever, good movement, amazing first touch and the VISION to pick out a team mate in a crowded penalty area. And unlike many other names touted he can slot into the prem immediately.

Forgot to mention but I dont think Martins is the answer. On his day he is brilliant, however, the secret of great players is consistency. Man United dont always have the best players but the most consistent ones. Martins lacks the consistency that you need to win trophies although I do hope he proves me wrong. We have quite a bit of pace in the side so dont be surprised if we buy very quick wide men
