Major Newcastle News Stories – July 9th – 2007

Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today – in no particular order of priority.

The highlight for us today is we are linked with two very good players. One is Deco – who continues to be linked with Newcastle because Barcelona would like to sign Frank Lampard from Chelsea – and therefore would be able to let a central midfielder go.

Also linked with us is Gabriele Heinze of Manchester United who seems willing to leave Manchester for more regular football next season. We think it will be difficult to capture either player because – for one thing – we cannot offer them European football next season.

  • The news continues to be that Mike Ashley would like to attract a world class player to Newcastle before the transfer window ends in August. Once player we are linked with is Deco of Barcelona and since we’ve been in contact with Barcelona for Edmilson and Gudjohnsen we hope some progress on Deco may have been made. We have a Newcastle Transfer Update this morning on Deco.

  • We have a piece today asking what is Newcastle’s best strike partnership next season. Most think that Mark Viduka and Michael Owen will be first choice but probably Sam will use some rotation system to keep the players fresh and on their toes. With four good strikers Sam also has some good choices during games – where he will be able to impact a game by changing his strikers accordingly.

  • News today that Newcastle may be after Gabriele Heinze from Manchester United and we run a Newcastle Transfer Update story on Gabriele. We think it will be difficult to capture Heinze because he wants European football and we think it would be difficult right now to attract him to Newcastle. However, Sam Allardyce has a good relationship with Alex Ferguson and competition is from Liverpool and maybe Real Madrid. Ferguson would not want Heinze to end up at Liverpool.

  • Australia just about made it through against Oman in the Asian Cup when Everton’s Tim Cahill scored a very late winner to save Australia from embarrassment. Mark Schwarzer in goal had a good game and saved his country with a string of good saves. Next up for Australia is Iraq on Friday before their final group game against Thailand on Monday. Rumor has it that Roy Keane is interested in taking Mark Schwarzer to Sunderland for next season.

  • Here’s some funny (or even stupid) football quotes for today from commentator John Motson – this is to lighten up the day 😀

“The unexpected is always likely to happen” “Brazil – they’re so good it’s like they are running around the pitch playing with themselves.”

“For those of you watching in black and white, Spurs are in the yellow strip.”

“England could have been 1-0 down on two occasions now.”

“The referee is wearing the same yellow-colored top as the Slovakian goalkeeper. I’d have thought the UEFA official would have spotted that – but perhaps he’s been deafened by the noise of this crowd.”

We always appreciate your comments on these stories.

Not sure about the comments in the papers over the weekend about Mike Ashley
wanting a” super star” signing for Newcastle. I hope it’s also what Big Sam wants? What’s your take on that Ed.

I agree that Heinze would be a good signing, much better than wayne bridge. Lets get the defence sorted before signing superstar’s.

I notice NUFC.com have it from “credible sources” that Deco will have a medical this week and to be fair to those lads their credible source are usally right. That would be a phenomenal signing in terms of selling shirts, ‘shocking the premiership’ etc. but i’m not sure how him and Barton would go together, not to mention Emre (who I reckon is underrated).

Also £4m for Heinze is a total bargin considering he’s close to being in Man u’s first team. I just hope commentators realise his name is like the beans and not ‘aintsay’ or whatever s**t they say – does my head right in!

Totally agree with Riquele. I’ve been saying it for ages now. And if you saw him playing for Argentina in the Copa America, particularly against Peru, you’ll see what I mean. He is an astonishingly good midfielder. Able to create and score many, many goals. In my opinion, far better than Deco and far easier to sign.
    Howay Sam, get him signed.

MickC – i wouldn’t be surprised if that big signing is Deco. The people at NUFC.com are usually accurate and down to earth and not at all sensational in their reporting. Take a look http://www.nufc.com

mickC – agree about the defense must come first – hopefully someone will bne coming in this week – according to this morning’s journal. Bur our attack and midfield are pretty good right now – but the defense is still well short. I’m sure they are working their tails off but we could do with another defender coming in soon.

    ^^^ Agreed.

Deco, Raul, and Edmilson are the kind of players we need to aim for to get to the “next level”. I would even be tempted to sign Gallas too if he is disillusioned with Arsenal. I have said we will overtake them and we might do it sooner than people think the way things are going.

NUFC.com are usually spot on. Although they dismissed the Edmilson story at first but this is probably due to other false brazil stories from the past.

why do we need deco or riquelme? We have joey barton so if we sign deco or riquelme that would leave barton on the bench, meaning that we would have wasted £5.8M.

Deco/Gudjohnson/Requelme would fit into Allardyces Front Three, IMO. Just off Owen and Viduka. So Barton would still have a role in midfield.
I like the German defenders, Metzelder, Mertesacker, Lahm. But Heinze would be a great signing, suspect it is paper talk though.
But looking good for next season. My 400/1 looking good.

Is the whole Edmilson thing stil going on? i havent heard nothing about that for a while now, i agree with sean i think Barton is absolutely brilliant and we dont need more midfielders i also know alot of people dont agree but i absolutely love Dyer aswel and if them to can play together it would be brilliant. If Mike Ashley wants to shock the football world with a world class signing make it a world class defender please!!? altho im loving Newcastle being linked with all these world class players and i wouldnt be complaining if they happened there is definatly more important things to do before singing more midfielders and attackers.

I think Deco might just get in the team ahead of Emre! 😛

Emre might also play more consistently if he has competition for the left centre midfield slot! I would certainly pick Deco ahead of Emre as much as I rate Emre.

as a newc fan i wud dream of having riquelme in the team but i think this nonsense has to stop-if riquelme decided to leave villareal do you honestly think he wud go to newcastle considering 1.he doesnt speak the language 2.he has no fellow countrymen here 3.the weather is awful compared to what he is used to 4.we cant offer european football. not to mind champions league football 5. he has said he wants to stay in spain or in argentina (both spanish speaking)! it would b amazing to get deco, altho chances are chelsea will pick him up as a replacement for lampard! but what about deco and veron in midfield, with veron sitting back and passing and deco pressing forward and assisting! if reports are true ( http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=47115 ) then deco is available and we have the money to afford him, and veron is available on a free!! any1 got any thoughts on this??
