so far am liking the flow of events in newcastle especially after that win in the friendly in which I saw my dear owen scoring, but I have to comment about the slowness in the transfer marke that we are showing, we should not fail on the pursuit of that defender from palermo because I believe we need him; I dont think Rozenal will manage it alone.

emma - great to hear from you in Uganda!
Well Michael Owen is staying and we expect Oba to announce he's staying after he meets with Sam tomorrow at training. Then we'll have 4 terrific strikers - we even expect Shola to do very well under Sam.

am one of the few lovers of the great newcastle here in kampala Uganda, but i would like to use this opportunity to pass on my comments about our team. so far am delighted by the signings that Big Sam has made so far but still want him try his luck on both DECO and BEYE coz i really believe that Beye would be better than the aging CARR. Deco will make our mid-field one of the most feared in the premiership coz of the attacking threat that he brings and on this I would adviswe big SAM not to let go of any of our killer scorers(Owen, Oba, n Viduka), Shola would not hurt me if he were released.

valle - we need more than one good player at each position - Sam has already said he wants 2 in each position to fight it out - just like Mourinho does it at Chelsea.

Hahaha, well said FCB, I think the takeover has given some people a bit of a skewed perspective on the Toon and our prospects for players. Anyone who thinks that Deco is anything other than a world class playmaker should ask a Barca fan - I know a few and they are livid at the prospect of losing him whilst encouraging the departure of Gudjonnson (although most of us I would say are definitely fans of his from his time at Chelski). I agree wholeheartedly that the defence needs a massive shake-up but its also true that quality defenders are easier and cheaper to come across than world-class playmakers, which the Toon also desperately need. Last year it was a bit sickening watching our attacking moves unravel so cheaply due to a chronic lack of footballing imagination. We have some good attacking players but most are functional team players rather than flair playmakers that everyone looks first to pass the ball through. We really lack someone who can deliver an incisive through ball or put a chance, in space, on a plate for a striker. Someone that the rest of the team, many who might excel in their individual positions, to play around and be th ecreative hub of the team. Someone who, when the chips are down, can pull some magic flair out of the hat and give us an edge. Seems to me that we've never really replaced Pedro (apart from cameos from Tino mebbes). Also with Big Sam's penchant for set piece play I reckon he'd want a set piece taker of much higher calibre than presently available to him. I find it astonishing that people are questioning the capability or suitability of Deco for us - are you new to the club or did you see any of the real horrorshow that was last season? I can understand the desire to prioritise the defence, any sane geordie would agree that we've needed that for about a decade now, but if we have the cash and it won't displace our defensive efforts then we should seriously look at bringing someone like Deco in if we have a sniff of a chance. I suspect, like many posters have already said, that we might have to wait until next year.

Sorry guys, but I think you are dreaming. No disrespect, but why would a player like Deco go to a club like Newcastle? He is still a very important part of Barça's team and I'm sure he's looking forward to having a crack at winning another Champions League. You might get Edmilson in January, Gudjohnsen possibly, but his father/agent has said he prefers to stay at Barça, but if Deco signs for Newcastle I'll eat my keyboard.

Deco would be a good signing for BSA, but I'm not sure that his star-rating is as high as what ashley is hoping to lure to SJP. Now a couple of his team-mates may truly be in the offing and offer that "shock heard 'round the futbol world".

Ed... Sure that would be great, but i just dont see why we bought Barton then. Surely a fit Edmilson and Deco would be first choice.

With all the extra news coming through it's looking like Deco may be on his way. Don't forget we've been in Barcelona quite a few times presumably after Edmilson and Gudjohnsen - but maybe we've also been asking about Deco - and even Raul. Wouldn't it be something if we announced 3-4 signings from Barcelona before the end of the week.
