Was Sam’s Secret Beye Meeting a Ploy To Get Deco?

Sam Allardyce left the Newcastle training camp last Sunday to a secret destination to attempt to sign a player he had reported to have been pursuing.

Yesterday it was revealed the player was Habib Beye from Marseilles and that Sam had one-on-one talks with Beye in order to convince him to join Newcastle.

We wonder if there was more to this story.

Deco

We are now hearing of course that Beye wants to stay at Marseilles and it looks like that particular transfer deal will not happen, unfortunately.

However, we feel there is more to this than just one signing – and would not be surprised if Allardyce had actually met with Deco of Barcelona in an attempt to convince him to leave the Barcelona sun for the Newcastle sun -when it shines. 😀

We still believe there is a reasonable chance that Sam can come up with a coup and sign a big player like Deco. Two other players at Barcelona – Edmilson and Gudjohnsen are also interesting Sam – and we think at least Edmilson will eventually join Newcastle in January. If Oba Martins decides to leave Newcastle – don’t be surprised if Sam steps in to sign Eidur Gudjohnsen for Newcastle.

In the last week or so Deco has been linked with a move away from Barcelona and Big Sam has managed to tempt stars to join him before at Bolton. It should be an easier sell at Newcastle – although still difficult – given we will not have European football next season. Difficult but not impossible.

During Sam’s time at Bolton he struck multiple deals with foreign players you would find it hard to believe wanted to play at Bolton. Sam’s persuasive powers, man-management and organization skills are that good. If Sam does manage to sign Deco it will be a phenomenal coup for Newcastle, and could help put us on the world football map – a goal that Ashley and Mort have voiced several times.

It may be a long shot we agree – and there are probably more things against the deal than for it – but stranger things have happened in football.

Comments welcome.

Although Deco is fantastic player, no doubt about that, I’d rather SA spend his time trying to persuade defenders to join the club rather then a midfielder as we already have a bundle of talent in midfield whereas in defence, a few left backs, another centre back and (maybe?) another right back are still needed.

Again, if Deco is signed i’ll have no problems but SA shouldnt spend to much time trying to persuade him to join as the season is fast approaching and the defence is a bit thin in terms of depth.

Possibly true and a Great signing if we get him. Although our time and money should be spent on defenders at the moment. If we could attract a world class defender to the club that would be a huge lift for the fans. I know without Europe slim chance but i can dream for poor S Given who has been Brilliant the last 2 seasons without a working back four 🙂

do you not think SA knows about the defence and he’s linked with loads of good defenders and what u got to remember he is an ex centre half so obviously he will know that. If beye had signed that would be our 3rd defender but we still got 2 in geremi and rozehnal. But to get deco would be amazing because that signing alone would get the top players back to SJP where they belong. SA is doing a great job at the min and looking forward to the backing of the new owner putting his money where his mouth is only a good thing c’mon the toon top 4 no probs arsenal will drop out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!l

Now that Owen has finally committed himself (no better offer I guess) to Newcastle it will make it easier to attract big names.

Good news today that Owen is staying for this season at least. Ashley wants us to challenge for top 4 position within 3 years. No chance unless we make some class signings.

Liverpool have signed Babel, Lucas, Voronin, Torres, Beneyoun.
Man Utd have signed Anderson, Nani, Hargreaves, soon to sign Tevez
Chelsea have signed Sidwell, Alex, Ben Haim, Pizarro and Mauluda.
Arsenal have signed Sagna, Eduardo and probably another top class striker to come.

With there squads a lot stronger than ours anyway and with funds as good as ours, do you see us ever catching up with them?

Even Tottenham and West Ham have greater squads than us and made some top class signings ( Bale, Bent, Kaboul, Parker, Faubert)

Sam has done a great job in the transfer market so far, but feel he needs a lot more players to compete with the above.

West Ham signed a whole host of top name player (Tevez and Mascerano) with out European football so why can’t we. Ashley release the funds.

Players like Deco are the sort of players we need to be getting if we want to brake into the top 4 or even top 6 again.

We put our own piece out on Michael – great advertisement for anyone wanting to come to Newcastle this summer. Hey – it’s fantastic news:

Sam says on Newcastle World he wants 4 more players – 7 out and 8 in during the summer – he’s half way there. Michael talks about Sam for about 2/3 of his article – he’s obviously very impressed with Sam – that’s good 😀

aaron D – good point – but the answer has to be we can catch them – but not in one or even two season. Think Sam is doing the right things this summer – we’ll be a lot stronger next year. He talks in glowing terms about many of our players – like N’Zogbia so we’ll see different players out there next season – hopefully Dyer will even produce. Next summer will be more difficult foe us – as we take steps to get into top 4. Michael Owen can help us attract those players.
It’s just very exciting these days to be a Newcastle fan.

SA has brought in some really good names, lads to who the TOON is a step up, and I imagine it was quite an easy sell.
However to persuade the next level of player to join us requires more behind the scenes work, I have every confidence that SA will get one or even two big names in, and also get the defenders that we all know we need
I hate to say it but we have to be patient (again) there are quite few weeks left to get players in, and not many would say taht we aren’t now going in the right direction

Having read Beye’s comments about wanting to stay at Olympique Marseille, I think the most interesting point was that he has ONE YEAR left on his contract and wants to see that out.

I wonder why? Call me cynical, but a free transfer and a whopping great big signing on fee from his next club can’t have anything to do with it, can it?

Forget him Sam. Don’t forget, Boumsong had people raving about him at O.M. and look how poorly he shaped up.

doc – i’m not sure we even need big names in this summer. if Sam can get the best out of folks such as N’Zogbia, Butt, Dyer, Emre, Milner, Taylor, our 4 strikers – we have a very decent squad that can make top 6 and European qualification. We think he faces the problem you mention next summer – but hopefully by then we will have a bigger profile at the club and can attract the players necessary.

Has anyone been watching the copa america? couple of good players that i would like to see at NUFC , D. Lugano of uruguay plays for fenerbache could be tempted to st. james’,Juan Román Riquelme has been outstanding i think that he could possibly come long shot but worth a try. Nery Castillo i know he’s a striker but has bags of skill, only 22/23 is half italian so no work permit problems and could easily be tempted plays for Olympiacos possible replacement for Martins if he goes. Andres Guardado he’s only 20 skillful, great cross but i think he has signed for deportivo. That Royston Drenthe is going to Real Madrid should of gone for him.

are you going to do an article on aldo duscher, he is coming on trial at the toon and if successful sam will sign him on a free transfer. he is only 28 and broke beckham’s metatarsal.

i’m gutted about beye but i still think marseille want to sell him, rather than lose him for free at the end of this season.

depends on how long he’s got left on his contract at villareal, i reckon around the £10million mark, would be well worth it though. Him and Barton in the middle with Butt, Emre as back-ups.

Aldo Duscher would be a good signing too, but would much rather spend a bit of money and get a much better player.

Having Owen staying will help attract players. I still think we should get Beckham on loan, if available, would increase NUFC marketablilty.

Definitely still short on defenders, but i reckon theres going to be a few good defenders coming in, that there’s been no news on yet. Every papers was talking about Rozenhal for months, but none about Geremi until 2 days before he signed.

people he has a 50 million budget and Deco is gonna cost no more than 15 mill so its dnt reli matter if hes spending out on Deco as he is world class and wnt take a big enuf chunk out of the budget to let us worry that we wont have enuf to sign at least 3 more defenders and im sure Sam has got sum lined up so ive got no worries bout him buying another midfielder and at least hes improving on the players we’ve got unlinke other manageers in the past who just buy the same type of players with similar abilities and sam if finally buyin players who are gonna help newcastle get back up to where we belong

LiamBirchy8 – I’ve got the same feeling; I was really looking forward that a class defender as Beye would come to the toon. I hope you’re right if you say that Marseille will sell him, but my hope of signing him is as good as completely gone. The last thing I would like to mention about Beye is that you can’t compare him with Boumsong. Boumsong made also mistakes when he played in the French league. Beye is completely different, I believe he is one of the most top rated defenders who makes very few mistakes.

Deco would be an amazing signing, but first I would like to see our defence being build. We shall see…

riquelme is an outstanding player, but along with deco and others, i’m sure there would be other clubs, also interested in them who could offer them european football etc.
i’m not trying to sound negative, merely realistic.
Duscher would be a great signing, he’s a good player.
big sam will have defenders in his sight no worries. he’s strengthened the back 4 already, and he will have plenty of others he is looking at.
we have talent in the midfield already, but at the end of the day the names we have been linked with are world class players. if they’re willing to come, then there is no harm at all having them in the squad!

ross – we still need 3 good defenders – sign Duscher – persuade Martins to stay – and we’ll have a great squad. 7 out and 8 in – much better squad.
