Major Newcastle News Stories – July 16th – 2007

Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today in no particular order of priority.

We are linked with Fabio Cannavaro today as the 33 year-old seems to be surplus to requirements at Real Madrid after just one season after his ₤13.5M transfer there. We don’t know what the fee is but there are rumors he is a free transfer. Real Madrid certainly throw their money around and change their managers even more than Newcastle used to. No wonder they are struggling – even though they managed to win the Spanish League last year.

  • We run a story today on Aldo Duscher who did not win a contract at Newcastle when he came for a 3 day trial last Thursday. It appears he was just not fit enough and Sam obviously didn’t like what he saw. It’s a pity since Aldo came as a free transfer – but Sam knows what he’s doing so no questions there. Still think Sam is looking for another midfielder from somewhere.

  • It looks like Fabio Cannavaro is available from Real Madrid after Fabio has spent just one season there and made 31 appearances. With their constant changing of managers Real waste an awful lot of money as managers come in and change the players they need – almost every year. Sounds like another club we are well aware – doesn’t it? 😀
We doubt whether Fabio would be attracted to Newcastle and think he will return to Italy – but Chelsea are also interested – if he can get into their team. We don’t rule out a move for Fabio however – as he certainly fits the profile of players he has managed to get to Bolton over the years.

  • Arsenal are reported to have made a ₤15M bid for 25 year-old striker Rodrigo Palacio of Boca Juniors. He has only been at Boca for two seasons but while there he has scored 39 goals in 79 appearances. Still the ₤15M fee seems high for someone who is completely unproven in the Premiership – although Wenger’s record on spotting real talent is second to none.

    Oba Martins

  • Other stories that are reported today:
    • Franck Queuedrue will be talking to Sam Allardyce by phone today once he has talked to new Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez about his future – which obviously doesn’t lie at Fulham. Queudrue’s wife would like to return to the north east area so as long as Sam wants Franck we believe the deal will be done. The transfer fee is quoted anywhere from ₤1.5M to ₤3M – and will probably end up somewhere between the two figures. Hopefully we will hear something on the positive side on this today. We believe Franck will be a good addition to the squad and is good value for money.
    • Good story on the Newcastle official web-site where goalkeeper Shay Given talks in glowing terms about Newcastle United. Shay is one of the best players ever to wear the Newcastle shirt and certainly will go down as the best goalkeeper ever at Newcastle. He just loves the club – and is a fantastic role model for our kids – and everybody else come to think of it.
Shay is one of our most favorite players at Newcastle and we hope he will remain our vice captain.

    • The Journal reports today that Newcastle have held talks with a second French left-back. Both Newcastle United and Wigan Athletic are both said to have been in contact with Franck Signorino of Nantes – as a possible alternative to Franck Queudrue should that deal not happen for whatever reason.
    • We are also still being linked with Ronandinho in a ₤58M deal – but we’re not sure what Newcastle can offer the Brazilian at this point. Certainly not European football and it will be a couple years at least before we can offer players European Champions football.
  • Here’s some funny football quotes for today from one of the best ever managers – Sir Alex Ferguson – this is to lighten up the day – which we all need at some point 😀

“If we can play like that every week we’ll get some level of consistency.”“As with every young player, he’s only 18.”

“Cole should be scoring from those distances, but I’m not going to single him out.”

“The lads ran their socks into the ground.”

    Sir Alex Ferguson

We always appreciate your comments on these stories.

I know Sam says he wants just 4 more signings but I think we need 5.
Right Back- Rod Fanni. Any news today Ed?
Left Back- Queudrue and someone else. Doubt Heinze will join.
Centre Back- Cannavaro would be fantastic.
Def Mid- Would love Appiah but don’t think Sam is intersted. We can’t wait till January for Edmilson.

EatSleepSport are running a story on CZ leaving again. Trying to say that he’s going to leave for Bolton or Fulham for £2m. Get a grip, he’s worth more than that and he’s going to get a massive run in the team unchallenged. Have a word EatSleepSport and get your stories right. Pricks

    Here’s a quote from Franck Signorino’s website, which I think is written by some of his fans or lovers;
“That must make almost 3 years that we are interested in the career of Franck Signorino and more than two years that the site exists! But why Franck? First of all because it is a player talented, enduring, combative, motivated on a terrrain of football but which remains however conscious of its gaps. But as (and I believe as nobody will contradict us), a person simple, humble who can remain the feet on ground and always available for the people who appreciate it. Thank you with him. “

Plus I hope we sign Fanni, apparently he is the quickest defender in League 1. Speed is always good.

i’d say fanni and quedrue are musts, i agree with the fact heinze is unlikely to join, interest in him will be high.
im surprised ducher was dismissed so quickly as far as defensive mid goes, there must have been something relatively wrong with the situation.
i’d also like to see further advances made regarding deco. either we push and look for a signing within the next week or so, or we’re told he isnt going anywhere. what does everyone think?
i see a string of papers have now decided to latch onto the ‘dinho story, putting the price at 58mil as if there is some sort of authenticity to the story. that should make for a few more days of needless speculation!

    Real Madrid are getting rid of 6 senior players, who are as follows;
Michel Salgado, Ivan Helguera, Marcelo, Emerson, Julio Baptista plus Alvaro Meija. Marcelo is a left back who was signed to replace Roberto Carlos (or am I mistaking him for someone else???). Out of them all, Emerson is a player we should sign. He’ll sit nicely in front of the back four and dictate play from there. Better player than Gilberto Siilva!!!!

Ronandinho in a ₤58M deal. There’s a hell of a lot more we could do for the club with that amount of money. He’s good but not that good. Anyway don’t we have the Oba/Owen pay parity to sort out? 😉

Kash – I saw that – there’s just no way N’Zogbia will leave the club after the glowing compliment Sam paid him last week – he’s going to do very well under Sam – and he knows it – and he’ll get a good chance in the first team.

Good shout Outlaw. I’m pretty sure i think he’s babayaro all over again. I don’t think that there’s any truth in any of the other mooted links to french full backs either. This transfer window is beginning to go all Glenn Roeder.

where are our defensive reinforcements that Sam promised!?! he let 5 defensive players go, but we have only got one serious contender in (rozy) and a versatile player who might play right back (geremi). And we already knew we had a small squad which struggled with the injuries last season. Get a move on sam-o!

Ed — big story breaking re a police raid on St. James’ Park in connection with football corruption!! We’re the only club named so far, which is odd. Two houses searched + club offices?

My wife got an urgent call from SJP box-office this a.m. to make an alternative form of payment for my 2 season-tickets as they couldn’t take my direct-debit. Is this linked? She wondered why the front of the ground was screened-off!

This story could be huge but will probably drag-on for months (years even?)once the lawyers get involved. I’m sure our new Deputy Chairman’s a top solicitor which is handy!! Get the prayer-mats out so we don’t end-up like Juve. Our FA may be soft but the other authorities (police, courts, Inland Revenue?) may not be such a push-over ?

I suppose there’s going to be a new article about the raids this morning but I thought I’d get my view in here, now. This stinks of McKay’s dodgy dealings. Rangers and ourselves have been named so far (Boumsong transfer anyone?), so taking a shot in the dark, I’d say Pompey were likely (Faye) or Man City (Barton) to be the other club. As for the 2 houses raided, my money’s on McKay’s (although I think he lives in Monaco, so perhaps not) and Souness (although this is more of a wish than anything!). Kenny Shepherd perhaps?

I don’t think we have anything to worry about regarding the club being involved, or at least I hope not. Regardless, it’s another awful slur our club doesn’t need. Thanks a lot to the Shepherd era!

I hope these raids dont affect Newcastle’s preperation for the season in that, they, possibly, may not be able to buy/sell players whilst their finances are investigated?

How im so glad the Shepherd era is over and i hope this raid isnt important but just the media making a big hype about it

Actually I hope Jack Bauer gets his hands on him and shoots him in the leg, whilst looking for Boumsong. Watch Emre, he could be the CTU mole.

It is definetly to do with Boumsong and amdy faye but I wouldn’t worry too much. They won’t stop us doing transfers because the investigation is not to do with the club but individuals. Man I hate McKay. If he was arrested at least he probably won’t be N’Zogbia’s agent.

Just seen on sky sports we are being linked with Andrea Barzagli, Italian center back who is at Palermo. If this is true Sam is onto a real gem, a world cup winner and only about 26 years old.
    Class act.

Barzagli’s the type of CB I think we need. He plays in one of the most defensive leagues in the world (and so he must know how to do his job well), he’s experienced but not over the hill and I think Italian defenders are great at being defenders. I know that sounds obvious, but generally they’re technically sound, have great levels of concentration and are usually good in the air. Think of Titus Bramble’s evil half brother (and I don’t mean Tes!)

    Hey Ed,

I’d say that in the above comments. Shay has not just been the best goalkeeper for Newcastle United, but one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

If you look at his ability as a shot stopper, the way he commands his defense, his great presence, positioning and about 1001 other great attributes, you can soon realize just how important a role model he is when it comes to goalkeeping.

BTW…when are we going to have a chat. I’m always bothering Ahmed. About time we started to have a chat too!
