agree with other points,ashley seems quite slow to release funds.we are missing out on alot of good young talent at the moment,spurs are buying good young defenders.sam has brought in some good players, but hasnt actually spent much.he needs to go out and buy two quality defenders and spend whats required to get them.if you look at man utd,chelsea and liverpool they are so hard to beat and have excellent defences.we need to build from the back like this and we will be up there challenging, we have alot of potential in midfield and upfront,and i think barton will prove to be great signing,he will be determined to do well for the toon and thats the attitude we need.

I think the cash is there, I just don’t think the new owners are willing to spend it freely. Look who they inherited the club from, I don’t think they want to, make the same Boumsong…. I mean terrible mistake.

I’m concerned about the lack of a left back and the fact we only have 3 experienced CBs (and one of them’s Ramage!) IMO, chuck a nice contract Cannervaro’s way, check on the availability of Barazagli and get this guy Fanni in (I’m not a great fan TBH, not while we’re short on the other side of defence, but if we hang about he’ll go somewhere else too).

I’m getting a bit worried after comments from BSA that the takeover has stopped him signing his top targets. So what happened to the Â£50 million transfer kitty that seems to have vanished before we got to spend any of it ?
Ashley supposedly took us over saying he wanted to turn us into one of the top 4 within a few seasons , but once again what Toon fans get told via the local media, and what actually happens are two very different things.
Look at the amounts of money spent already by other clubs – Man U 50 million, Liverpool 40 million, Spurs 40 million if they add SWP this week, and West Ham splashing the cash like its going out of fashion
I applaud Sam for the players he has brought in so far and am pleased they’re the right kind of players, but I feel things grinding to a halt and am desparate to get in a top left back, another central defender plus maybe 2 more quality players who would improve the squad.

Please can we have Shorey, Fanni, Deco and Cannervaro

I would really love to see the Palermo pair arrive… yes, they lack EPL exp but so what… if we move early they can be a part of preseason and get almost a month to get to know the team.

Sam:… Big Sam said he wanted players with EPL exp if he could get em so that leaves O’Shea of those u mentioned and hasnt he been playing more in midfield than in defense in recent seasons?. I cant actually think of what “very, very good defenders” he could actually get from EPL other than the left backs that have been mentioned a million times. Centre halves gives me the most trouble, as i dont see players such as Wes Brown as a very, very good player. I could see Ferguson raising a few eyebrows by selling Rio though, if the right offer comes along and perhaps Carvalho from Chelsea if they are really after Cannevaro. But its all long shots and none are obvious imo…

Btw, do anyone know if tonights game is shown on tv?, or even better, on one of the internet free sites?

Iâ€™m hoping Shorey and Young are on his radar. However I think that there seems to be a cash flow issue, in which BSA is unable to act quickly. Luckily for us, Shorey still hasnâ€™t signed a contract and no one has gone in for Young yet. Liverpool have missed out on Milito, so Hyppia looks like heâ€™ll be staying at Liverpool. I havenâ€™t got a clue who the other centre half will be, but it seems players such as Mellberg, Campbell, Ferdinand (WH), Dawson would be attractive options. All have played and exclled at this level at some stage and all are now facing increased competition for a first team place but would be tempted to move. Barzagli would be a great signing and potentially a great investment.
