Rich and Jacob I beg to differ. The Arsenal don’t have to sign big names; we make players just in case you haven’t noticed. To say that we have had our moment is to treat us with contempt.
Jacob to class Spurs as one of the big four is really laughable. I think you need to check a few facts before you start spouting. It has been 46 years since Spurs have done anything to talk about.
Rich our manager is not about to jump ship as you put it, and we are definitely not gutted in not being able to get anything Toon has to offer.

I suggest the pair of you give up reading the Sun, they never print the truth anyway!

Jacob said it right, Arsenal had their moment and did well unlike when we screwed up in 96.

as i said the Gooners havent made a major signing in ages, their Manager is about to jump ship just like their star player and they are gutted they cant even entice any of our star players down to the ‘fashionable’ town called London.

i dont think Oba would want to go to Arsenal, i admit teams like Man Utd & CHelski might be able to entice him but not the Gooners.

for startes they would have to snap their wage structure in half to sign the big nigerian.

Arsenal are now playing catch-up to the big four of Man U, Chelski, Liverpool and Spurs…just like the rest of us.

The fact is that Sir Wenger isnt interested in him at all! If Arsenal wanted him they would have him and he would jump at the chance to play for Arsenal, simple as that…Reports saying that he snubbed Arsenal, is him just trying to make himself look more important and for the newcastle fans to adore him even more that he “fake-turned down” Arsenal!!

people assume that players would prefer to play for Arsenal than NUFC.

I beg to differ, why would a player like Owen or Oba want to join a team that hasnt made a major signing in god knows how many seasons, a club whos manager wont sign a new contract and his existing one runs out in less than 12 months? i think both players would prefer and what looks like a stable toon with new billonaire owners & proven premiership manager.

its the same old story, all that has came out of Owen & Obas mouths is that ‘I am happy at NUFC and cant wait to get cracking next season’ yet the press assumes that we arent big enough to harness players like these and they must move to one of the prems top 4 clubs, their will always be speculation from the lazy media who cant be bothered reporting on real facts so they just make assumptions based on their outlook of the premiership hierarchy…. and funnily enough they are all shocked to the core when players like Owen, Oba say they want to stay at NUFC, exactly like when Shearer turned down Man Utd twice, Juventus & Barca.

Sources close to Arsenal have suggested that NO bid was made for Martins.
In all honesty I cant see where Martins would fit in at The Arsenal we have enough players that are able to play up front.

Im a through and through Newcastle fan but i dont think that Oba Martins is anything Special..he scored a few goals last season but ive seen him play and the amount of sitters that the guy missed were shockinh..i was embarrassed for the club!! he has the potential to be great but i would rather have viduka and owen upfront…so i think we should keep him for a season and then sell him for about 15/16 million…maybe ill be proved wrong but i personally believe that all this hype about him isnt necessary and i would be happy to get 13 million for a player that is in my opinion no better than half our current squad!!

I think Oba can only get better, 17 in his first year isn’t bad going considering he playing alongside no one. I would like to think we can keep a hold of him and build a formidable partnership with owen, can’t forget viduka and shola though. Sounds quite promising although we do need a couple more defenders to stand a chance against the man utd’s and chelsea’s. Come on boys get us back where we belong.

Has it not crossed anyone’s mind that these players might not signed for us if they didnt have the clauses in the contract?
I agree its not good for us and we should do without them, but as we have not been that successful of late, we dont have some of the things that atrtact top players, like Europe.
It not just as simple as saying no clause, they might have insisted on that or no deal. Question then is whether Owen or Martins with a clause is better than a lesser player?
Any, things are looking up so no more clauses in the future…

i’m glad he turned down a move, if it’s true. i rekon the best is yet to come from oba as far as newcastle are concerned. however, the window is far from closed, and as we all know much can change, even in the space of a few days. but lets hope he stays put and committed and i’m sure we will see a good few goals from him, and his team mates in the season to come.

some close sources said that both clubs have reached agreement as Arsenal tabled 15m pound for Martins. Apparently, will be unveiled on Friday.
