Major Newcastle News Stories – July 19th – 2007

Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today in no particular order of priority.

We concentrate on some of the Newcastle players today with news on Shola Ameobi, Geremi Sorele Njitap Fotso (for short – Geremi) and Michael Owen. There’s also a good story originating in the Northern Echo on why Sam Allardcye was persuaded to come to Newcastle.

Nothing at all yet on transfer activity but we expect Sam and others to be working furiously on bringing at least 3 new defenders to the club.

  • We spotlight Shola Ameobi today now that looks to be over his hip injury. Shola needs to score goals this year to get (and keep) his place in the Newcastle line up. There is great competition for places next season but we think now that Shola’s fit he’ll be a lot better than most fans think. But Shola just has to start scoring more goals to be a viable striker at Newcastle – although he has learned from the great Alan Shearer – how to make his immense physical presence felt.

  • A good interview today with Geremi from Newcastle World TV. We believe Geremi can be one of Sam’s best signings at Newcastle and this boy certainly gives 100% effort and has the vast experience to go with it. He’s going to be massive for us next season – and he certainly seems happy – we’ve never seen him smile so much. The picture below with Big Sam is just a great photo of the two of them.

  • Good story today originating in the Northern Echo on one of the things that persuaded Sam to join Newcastle. It was the excellent players already at the club like Michael Owen and Kieron Dyer. But it looks like Sam was tempted most by the possibility of managing Michael Owen. You don’t get the experience to work with England’s best striker too often. It’s interesting that Sam keeps mentioning how he admires Dyer. In management you usually get what you expect from people. Sam expects a lot from Kieron – so we hope he can bring out the best in him – then we’d really be motoring next season.

  • We’ve heard a number of stories over the last couple of days that Oba Martins has turned down an approach from Arsenal. We take a look at the validity of that story today and quote someone close to Oba. Of course with his release clause Sam Allardyce is still concerned about Oba (and even Michael Owen) although we think Oba is too excited about what’s happening right now at Newcastle to want to leave. A few wins early in the season and Oba will start to see he is playing at one of the real hot beds of English and European football. Just think what it could be like if we were actually successful again.

  • Here’s some funny football quotes for today – again from Ron Atkinson. This is to lighten up the day. 😀

“His head just disappeared into his shoulders.”

“He had acres of time there.”

“Think of a number between 10 and 11.”

“There’s lots of balls dropping off people.”

I updated my PES6 with a transfer patch. Got Viduka, Rozenhal, Geremi and Barton. Come on Sam, sign some more players, I want to be able to kick other peoples ass’s with the TOON!

What about Matt Taylor of Portsmouth for LB? Quite similar to Riise, in which he can play LB or LM and has good shooting ability!

Would cost about 8m and is more of a winger than left back. I don’t understand why we just don’t go for Shorey before West Ham snap him up because there is clearly problems with his new contract. We should make a bid for Heinze and if he says no at least we will know to look elsewhere.

we need a left back and a centre half as our next 2 signings, so we shud go for shorey/baines and then any out of cannavaro, mexes and kompany, andrade or davies. we have surely got the money now we are off the stock exchange. i hope we sign another right back as well.

I’ve just read this on icnewcastle. They’re on about West Ham putting in a bid for Dyer…whats more worrying, I think, is what it says about what happened after the game at Hartlepool last Tuesday…

“Dyer was deep in conversation with Allardyce’s first-team coach Nigel Pearson on the pitch at Hartlepool after the final whistle on Tuesday night.

The former Ipswich man clearly looked distressed as Pearson attempted to console him in full view of the media and the stragglers leaving the ground.”

If this happened it seems top have taken a while to surface…Any thoughts anyone? Any witnesses?

James Bell – the transfer patch is for online gaming. If you google “transfer patch online PES6” then you should find it. Also you’ll need to download .dkz studio which will install the patch for you. You’ll find details on what to do on the net.

I also updated all the premiership transfers for FM07. Delisted the Toon and gave us £270m to spend over 5 seasons. I sort of cheated though by adding Deco, Edmilson, Gudjohnsen into my team. I also made Rod fanni into a quicker version of Thuram and Barton into a younger Gerrard.

    This is my team

    Given
    Taylor Rozenhal
    Fanni Matt Taylor
    Edmilson
    Deco
    Elano N’Zogbia
    Owen Gudjohnsen

Not a bad team, if we get something similar in real life!!!!

Mutu blatantly has a coke problem. We got rid of Woodgate for the same reason, so why sign Mutu?

Riise is after a new contract. If he doesn’t get it, hopefully we can step in and sign him. He’s class. I think both him and Taylor are ideal candidates for LB. I always think that defenders capable of scoring goals are excellent assets!

why sign him? serie A player of the year, premiership experiences, captain of romania, in his best years,… sure…he had some problems…4 years ago…(but we have Sam)…and despite his problems he came back…better then ever…

But Sam said he wants big, solid defenders which I would agree with. Obviously defenders scoring is a bonus but Big Sam won’t mind leaving that to the strikers and attacking mids instead. The back 4s job is to stop goals, not getting them.

Nightfall – No doubt he’s a good player. But the new owners are going to pushing the “Newcastle Brand” all over the world. Now do you think a player who was banned for drug abuse will get board approval?

Elano on FM07 is absolutely class. He just sits on the right and sprays balls all over the place. Often plays 1-2’s with Barton or Deco and lays them up for long shots. Edmilson I added into my squad, thinking we were probably going to sign him, he’s actually been the best player throughout. But probably going to get rid to sign this Spanish kid called Zapata, who’s well better than Alonso!

Kash – I can’t believe you are rating players because there good on a computer game. have a word with yourself. have you even seen Elano play in real life and if you have how many times because that is what counts, not wether someone is good on fifa manager.

is anyone else worried about our lack of transfer activity since we signed Gez?

i mean, weve been linked to a handful of players but Sam has poured water on all of them except Fani.

with the Billionaire taking over and saying he was going to catapult us back into the right part of the table the lack of players we are not being linked to is starting to worry me.

as things stand we def need a left back and even then if Rozenhal, Taylor or Gez gets injured we have to go back to people like Carr & Ramage (who isnt bad but is too young/in-experienced).

Please can we sign Drenthe amazing dutch player whos under 21, can play left back or left wing would be perfect for us. plus hes got Dreadlocks which look amazing.

Im starting to get nervous, less than 3 weeks now :-\

Drenthe has said he’s made his decision on where he’s going, but the deal isn’t official yet. At Real and Chelsea he’s unlikely to be 1st choice, but for us he would be. What are the chances that we put a bid in for him, and maybe Big Sam had a chat with him? I’d like to believe that Big Sam maybe did that, and if he goes elsewhere he’s blatantly making the wrong choice!!!!!!

    Urby Emanuelson
    Nicky Shorey
    Christian Pander
    Andrea Barzagli
    John Heitinga
    Vincent Kompany

2 or 3 of those would do for me…
