I agree with most of the sentiments written so far . Dyer has been one of the real disappointments of the past few years . Time for him to go doesnt have the passion for a black and white shirt . Big Sam is absolutlet right . Those who want to play for the club can stay and fight for the cause the rest can leave . I t what has been missing for a long time a manager who tells it as it is and by culling the dead wood he will end up with a squad singing from the same hymn sheet and our results will speak for themselves . Top 6 and Europe this season I reckogn with out the likes of Dyer et al

There is no way we should be letting Dyer go until we have brought in a replacement because without Barton we could go into the new season with a weak midfield - the part of the team that has always been strong.

Have to get in Baptista and Hangeland who are much stronger players in first. But Dyer's versatility - he could have played left, right, centre, off the striker or right back - will be missed. Because of this I think we will definitely need to sign a right back because Solano or Geremi will now be needed more on the right wing. Carr is not good enough.

The ideal transfers this week would be if we could hijack Boro's bid for Young - they agreed a fee on friday but still haven't signed him AND stop Baines from going to Sunderland - he is quality and even if he is short it is not just height that makes a good defence. They need organisation above all and taller midfielders would give a huge advantage on setpieces in defence and attack. Other people consider Lahm and Shorey for the position but neither of them are tall either. Baines is the youngest, has most premiership experience, and will be in the full England squad soon enough.

More than just strengthening the squad we could piss off evertone else in the north east and prove beyond any doubt that we are the biggest team. This would send out a real message that we mean business, because the lack of success in the market has been totally frustrating and a bit embarrassing. Big Sam act quick to gve us the best possible start to the season.

i say cash in, but only if we can get some replacements in.

i mean, look at the Hammers, their new winger Faubert crocks it and immediately they are looking for a new siging to cover... compare that to Barton breaking down at the weekend... are we just going to try and wing it with Emre & Butt for the first month :-\

i was really looking forward to the coming season but over the past 2 weeks that hope has suddenly changed to undeniable gloom.

no new signings, injuries galore and more players going to teams we are going to be competing against. can things get any worse?

Dyer is the last survivor of the gang that cost sir bobby his job. Bellamy, Robert, Bramble, Jenas.
Robert aside - they all treated bobby with contempt behind his back, and the club HAS to be better off without this sort of player.
A few million in the bank and 80 grand a week wages to play with will get us a better option that won't break down three times a season.

What part of his 8 years at Newcastle has Dyer ever shown he has been an asset to Newcastle? I remember when he looked like he was a hungover headless chicken when we played Barca in CL, and we got trounced because Dyer hardly tracked back all game leaving Xavi to run riot. If he couldn't raise his game for a CL game against Barca at home, then how is he an asset to a top football club?!

i will not be dissappointed if dyer goes, having said that, i think he is a good player who would be an asset to any club. but at the end of the day, if he wants to leave, it shows lack of committment and anyone who is not committed to newcastle, who may i add are more than generous in terms of wages and contracts, are welcome to leave.....as they say..no one is bigger than the club.

Well I guess at the end of the day he should have been sold off a long time ago. When he did not want to play out of position for Bobby Robson.

I agree, he is clearly not our best midfielder per se, he is just a player who's ability to run at pace with close control and occasional through ball genius has carried him for years.

When tested in centre mid over the years he has consistently let us down as did JJ. His best role in my humble opinion is either at full back in an overlapping capacity or in the Rooney role behind the main striker.

That said he is still hellishly inconsistent which was acceptable 5 or 6 years ago but not now as he becomes a senior.

Wrestle the serpent?
But I guess you're right, he is an @rse. Just think he has the goals in him and the pace and skill that some of our other midfielders don't have.

Well that is completely true Kash! Well I guess they should just cash out on him the sooner the better that would mean funds to get another player who is really interested in playing and competing. Of course Dyer could stay to prove his worth but I really doubt it. Anyway it is good that the dead wood is leaving and I guess maybe ... just maybe we will be a force to be reckon within the PL as well as qualify of CL next season. :D
