Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today in no particular order of priority.
The big news this morning is on the excellent victory and good display against Scottish Champions Celtic. Newcastle ran out worthy 4-1 winners with 2 goals from Luque and one each from Martins and Milner.
Here are all five goals from last night’s Newcastle - Celtic game if from a Celtic viewpoint
Other news is that it looks like Kieron Dyer will be leaving the club - it’s not clear where he will be going with Manchester City, Spurs and West Ham all in the running.
We would now expect him to move to one of the two London clubs since he wants to be nearer Ipswich and his two kids and long term girlfriend.

- Newcastle played very well last night against a strong Celtic side and the game was vuirtually over at half time as Newcastle went 3 goals ahead courtesy of two from Luque and one from Oba Martins. Luque looked a lot lot better than last season and although Celtic got a goal back in the second half James Milner scored a lovely goal right before the final whistle - to make it a convincing win for the Magpies. We are looking forward to the game against Juventus on Sunday afternoon. A good crowd of just over 30,000 were at the game. Geremi was voted Man of the Match for his simple but graceful play in midfield.

Geremi - Man of the Match
- Lots of stories today that Kieron Dyer will leave Newcastle - though we’re not sure to which club. A report is in the Sun that he will be going to Manchester City for £4.5M and then a later report from the BBC says he is headed to Spurs for a £5M fee. He wants to move to the south so not sure Manchester City would be a good move - and Spurs may not pay his £80K/week wages - which may make West Ham the favorites - though they are saying £5M for Dyer is pie in the sky. We’re fairly sure he will be leaving the club though.

Kieron Dyer - Leaving - but to which club?
- Albert Luque had a good game last night and scored two opportunist goals. Sam has been talking about Albert and he was interested in taking him to Bolton a few years back when he was at Real Mallorca with Samuel Eto. Allardyce is dedicated to first getting Albert really fit and then if he can do that - and Albert continues to apply himself in training - Sam sees no reason why Luque can’t have an impact at Newcastle. We certainly hope so - and really wish the newly married Luque all the best for this coming season.

Albert Luque - good game last night
- While Newcastle gave a solid performance last night we still sustained two injuries to Nicky Butt and Steven Taylor. The victory has certainly lifted Newcastle fans’ spirits - but Sam was unhappy that we sustained another couple of injuries. He talked about the injuries last night and laments the growing injury list. He also points out that Steven Taylor is still very much learning his trade.
Late news from the Evening Chronicle says that Taylor’s injury is minor - but still awaiting news on Butt’s injury.
Nicky Butt- good game but injured
- Oba Martins had a good efficient game last night and neatly put away his chance after 11 minutes. Oba has come out today and said he is not leaving Newcastle and is extremely happy at the club. That’s really good and we suddently find ourselves with six good strikers. Viduka, Owen, Martins, Ameobi, Luque - and young Andy Carroll who continues to look good.

Oba Martins- staying at Newcastle
- Here’s some funny football quotes - to lighten up the day.

“The goals made such a difference to the way this game went.” - John Motson
“The difference between Everton and the Queen Mary is that Everton carry more passengers!” - Bill Shankly
“Don’t do that. This might be someone’s life.” - Bill Shankly reprimanding policeman who threw Liverpool scarf away while Shankly was doing lap of honor
Reporter: Where will Marion Pahars fit into the team line-up? - Gordon Strachan: Not telling you! It’s a secret.
The Great Bill Shankly - epitomized passion
We always appreciate your comments on these stories.

sam said that he has ruled out a move for curtis davis because he think that a partnership between him and taylor would be too inexperianced for the prem. wat u think?

Great result against Celtic. When I saw the line up before kick-off I thought we’d be lucky to get a draw. It was a good team performance and I’m happy to see Luque on the scoresheet. Taylor showd he’s still raw and still on a learning curve, but at least Big Sam has said he’ll show him the video and show him where he went wrong.
A few disappointments though. Carr was again terrible, as was Pattison. Martins first touch was again letting him down.
New boys Rosehnal and Geremi had good games and Rosehnal seemed to get more confident as the game went on.
If we can get a couple of decent full backs and 1 or 2 centre halfs then the team should look pretty good. We still have a small squad though so a few utility players wouldn’t go amiss.
It also looks like Dyer will need replacing, so I hope a bid comes in quickly so as not to leave Allardyce short nearer the end of the transfer window.
We’re still suffering with injuries though and that’s a concern.
Hopfully we’ll see some action in the transfer maket next week.

I agree with Allardyce on the Curtis Davis statement Bob. He’s a good prospect for the future, but I wouldn’t want him and Taylor together in defense. They both would benifit from having an experienced player like Sol Campbell to play along side.
So it would make better sense to go for that type of player.

nightfall -
i came across that link yesterday ( not sure where the hell i found it) and cant seem to find anything else on it. Doesn’t really go with BS saying he’s after EPL experience tho…..

put rohnzadal in defence and get sol cambell next to him that would be great

Alot of agents have been using Newcastle to get their players in the media. However, BSA does have a very comprehensive scouting system and he’s very good at finding prem quality defenders. I mean look at the defenders he’s had at Bolton, I had never heard of any of them before they joined! So you never know about this Baloy person.
I am firm believer that Big Sol is on his way to us. He’s wanting out of Portsmouth and they have more than enough CB’s now. Big Sol is ideal for Taylor, he’ll definitely teach him how to be a 1-man defence (which Big Sol was Arsenal, but had a little bit of help from Primus at Portsmouth)!

I have been asking Toon fans to be patient as we wait new signings to bolster the squad but I am now feeling anxious, the squad is starting to look like last season through injury, midfield worry, defence short of experience
BUT
we can just play the long ball a 7 0 4 formation and be entertainers again (not a serious comment)
anyone see light on the horizon?
10 Kash // Jul 27, 2007 at 15:22
I don’t think BSA has been sitting on his arse the last 2 weeks. I’d like to think he’s made some head way in a few deals which are pretty much hush-hush and there’ll be some players coming through the door next week. The weekend is always a good time to put the deal to bed, so lets wait till next week.
I really want to see Appiah make his way to Newcastle. I think he’d be perfect in the centre, considering his power and stamina. Then after the defenders, a technical playmaker would be nice too!
11 Ed Harrison // Jul 27, 2007 at 15:46
doc - there’s light on the horizon - sure of it. I even think we are going to be surprised how well some of our existing players will do. Solano has a new lease on life - forget ge’s 32 0- he’s back to playing like he was almost 5 years ago - and his enthusiasm is better than ever. N’Zogbia, Butt, Milner, Taylor will be better than last year too. Geremi could be our best buy for a long long time - would like to see him in midfield - at least while Joey is out. What we lack is a couple of really experienced defenders. Saw that Sol Campbell may still want to leave Portsmouth - he would be phenomenal at Newcastle - once Sam had him fitter than he’s been for many a year. Obviously I’m biased but hey - things could be a lot lot worse - if you go back to where we were in mid May.
12 Ed Case // Jul 27, 2007 at 15:48
I bet anything that BS is after Baye of Bolton.
The lad is 6′4″ and has prem experience - and, of course, BS bought him for Bolton.
He will be BS’s biggest target, without doubt. And I bet he will be a Newcastle player by the end of next week.
I can see Shorey being a Newcastle player too. Plus another 1 or 2 defenders from anywhere in Europe.
And lastly, once those idiots at Spurs have bought Bling Boy - I beg BS to do all he can to sign Riquelme.
13 Ed Case // Jul 27, 2007 at 15:50
I forgot to add - where are the big signings?
Why hasn’t Ashley allowed 50 million?
Well, maybe he has but if money wasn’t a particular issue (which it shouldn’t be since we’re owned by a billionaire and we are pretty desperate for new players) then why aren’t we scooping players up?
So what if Bolton wanted 8-10 million for Baye - personally, I think he’s worth it.
Likewise for Shorey etc…

First of all a great result last night agains Celtic. Hopefully we can repeat that performance against Juventus on Sunday.
.
I’m also very happy Luque banged in 2 goals for us, that will give him confidence and that’s what he needs after the first 2 disappointing years. Off course ha can still play better but let’s not rush things for him. Give him the time and the chances to gel into the team and he is our 5th signing for this season, although he’s already 2 years in North-England
I’m also happy about the performance of Rozehnal, I’ve said it that he will be a good buy and he is already proven his solid defence style. And he will only get better. Let’s go for Sol to put next to Roz and what a central defence we than have. Put Taylor on RB and go for Shorey and our defence looks quite solid IMO. We need anothe 1-2 then to cover injuries.
And finally Oba said he loves to be at Newcastle. For me (look at my nick) this is perfect news. Also scored yesterday, so he had a good performance too, he knows that Owen and Viduka (and Harper
)are on their way to push for a spot in the team. What a luxury we have up front.
Let Dyer go to the club he wants to go and if he is out then go for Riquelme (he was awesome on the last Copa America).
15 Ross // Jul 27, 2007 at 16:23
i’d love to see riquelme at newcastle. i think he’s an awesome player.
i think big sol would be a perfect signing. him playing at the back with both taylor and rozehnal would be brilliant for the both of them learning.
as far as the result last night goes, couldnt see the game but i heard apart from slightly shakey times at the back, we looked good attacking.
looking forward to getting to the juve game on sunday

I really cant see Dyer going to Man City, it WILL be either Spurs or West Ham.
I Just REALLY hope we will sign either Baptista OR SWP.
WHAT does evryone else think? are we going to sign anyone and if so WHO??????
REPLY!!!!
20 Nicci // Jul 27, 2007 at 18:38
get rid of the tosspot, he’s done sod all for this club and never wanted to be here except for the vast wages he has taken (i almost said earned) he wants to move to London for the high life. We should have sold him years ago when we were offered more.

‘I Just REALLY hope we will sign either Baptista OR SWP’
I hope we sign them both, the squad could do with them in it and they’d certainly strengthen it… before them tho get Sol Cambell and Shorey plus atleast one more CB…
22 Josh // Jul 27, 2007 at 22:53
Heard that SWP is supposed to be heading to the Magpies for 10m AND Wayne Bridge has been spotted looking around St James Park.
Not sure if it a load of bull but a triple swoop this summer from Chelsea HAS to be good! ALl quality experienced and young(ISH)
What u think? would make us all happier i think!
23 nightfall // Jul 28, 2007 at 0:29
