Major Newcastle News Stories – 30th July – 2007

Newcastle fans probably woke up feeling good this morning after a good win against Juventus yesterday afternoon.

But then after that first cup of coffee remembered that however well the lads played yesterday Sam Allardcye is still desperately short of defenders by his own admission.

We’ll take a look at what’s happenieng today with Newcastle and it’s nearly all on the transfer front.

nufc-brand.gif

  • In case you haven’t yet read our report on the game here is is again. Fairly detailed report on the game and who played well. Quite honestly nearly everyone had a good game as did the youngsters who were brought on in the second half. We know we need experienced defenders quickly – but we think in a couple of years a number of our youngsters will be Premiership class players.
Here are the two Newcastle goals on video – and here is the Man of the Match and our captain yesterday – Shay Given.

    shay_given-8.jpg

Shay Given Man of the Match yesterday

  • Some words today about the game yesterday from Sam Allardcye. He says two things basically. He was delighted by the performance of Newcastle yesterday including the youngsters. But that doesn’t take away the fact he is still very short of players and is therefore continuing to concentrate on the transfer market to get those three defenders into the club asap. Sam is still furstrated and the body language when he was sitting next to Chariman Chris Mort did not look good during the game. There is something going on – and it probably is that he now has restricted transfer funds. Not what he was told when he took the job.
    sam-allardyce.gif

Sam Allardcye – still frustrated by lack of signings

  • We have a piece today on the nightmare scenario. Let’s say Sam is unable to sign defenders before the Bolton game – or else they come in too late to make the first game. What is our best back four right now with the players we have. We make a choice and have had lots of comments so far. Take a look and let’s have your ideas too.

David Rozhenal – cool play be Czech Republic player yesterday

  • Since Sam says he has to look outside of England for his defenders – because none suitable are still available here – we look at four foreign full backs that may be able to make the grade at Newcastle – and who are currently still available.
    georgio-chellini.jpg

22 year old Giorgio Chiellini of Juventus– played second half against Newcastle yesterday at left back

  • We profiled Brazilian Chaudio Cacapa on this site back on June 3rd. He was available then on a free transfer from Lyon. He had been with Lyon since 2001 and had become their club captain. A story yesterday in the Sunday Sun said that Alalrdcye was being offered Claudio on a free but we heard today he has signed for a club in Quatar. So if did want him – he’s not available now. We look at the player we missed out on today.

  • News today in the Evening Chropnicle that we are after PSG youngster Boukary Drame. He has just turned 22 and is thought to be one of the best young defenders in the French league – although he plays for Senegal at the national level. We take a look at what our chances of signing the player are – and also take a look at the player himself. He is big friends with David Rozehnal who of course was also at PSG.

  • Here’s some funny football quotes – this time from the great Johan Cryuff – to lighten up the day   😀

“When I come home after a sports analysis show and my wife asks, ‘What did you say?’ I reply, ‘I have absolutely no idea whatsoever.”

“The cleverest do math, the next-best write books. Dancers are the cleverest with their feet, next are footballers.”

“If I wanted you to understand it, I would have explained it better.”

“It’s better to fail with your own vision rather than following another man’s vision.”

Latest – Eidur Gudjohnsen would be interested in a move to West Ham.

I thought his agent/father had said he was staying at Barcelona?

And I though West ham were interested in Dyer?

Is it me or is this story a bit mixed up 🙂

Anyway, if Gudjohnsen would join the hammers why not Newcastle and his former mentor Sam Allardyce? Im betting it will have something to do with money.

On a french site, Drame already signed with Sochaux. Money seems to be the problem for Allardyce. Chiellini would be a great fit. Gavrancic from Kiev could help and wouldn’t cost a lot. Coloccini, an Argentine international, could be bought also in italia. We need physical presence in the back. Sorin, a veteran argentine could play left back. The problem with Newcastle is that they don’t have europeen football to offer this season and that’s a big disadvantage.

Like I said without having read your mail, Greg, guys like Gudjohnsen-Alan Smith- Heinze – Chiellini, they all tasted europeen football – Champions League, so they won’t come here unless, like Geremi, they will have a big role to play in their new team. Richardson is a another example. So non-yet-established players could want to come.

Another one slips the net, does anyone else have a really bad feeling about the way things are looking from a board backing perspective? If money was available we could have signed a couple out of a dozen or so quality defenders that have been mentioned on this site on numerous occasions.

Josh – can only think that London would be the draw. He would probably cost in excess of 5m and by the looks of it that’s too much for our illusive billionaire. A left back or two and a CB should be our priority, don’t really need a forward.

I haven’t find an english site yet about Drame.
I understand what you say but some guys, who tasted europe, won’t even think about not playing europe with their club. Lunjberg is a good example in your side.

I’m starting to have a really bad feeling about the money situation. Why come in with the promise of investing £270m over 5 years, and then in the 1st season with a new manager not back him? BSA will greatly improve the facilities behind the scene and get the players playing like a team instead of a bunch of individuals! I really think Mike Ashley hasn’t got a clue, as such it has totally f*&^%$ed us over! We’re not the chairman/owner but we all know that we should be at the very least competing for decent players. Yes, the market does seem to be over inflated, but like any market, a stock is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it!

Message to Mike Ashley/Chris Mort if you don’t back the first decent manager since Bobby, the supporters will revolt and we’ll burn down all your Sports Direct ( AKA “That cheap f*&^&*g pikey shop”) stores including the one in Eldon Square!

    C*&T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just my opinion but I think Gudjohnsson was only sounded out when BSA expected Owen or Martins to leave.

Kash, you need to chill mate, if people are not signed by the end of the transfer window you and everybody else will have a right to complain, until then give Allardyce, Ashley and Mort a chance.
The club was a total shambles at the end of last season and things are not going to improve overnight. It takes time.

Barry – I agree things take time, but MA bought the club before the Thai bloke at City, yet City have already spent shit loads, while we’re left behind. Why is that? Something isn’t right, and BSA body language shows this. I want BSA at the helm, he’s the right man to take Newcastle forward with a fighting mentality. But the board promised us the world when buying the club, yet all we’re getting is that other clubs are buying players we should be competing for!

Barry – maybe we’re over reacting but Sam’s comments of late sound like he’s complaining about the situation already. It does take time but we have had opportunities to sign or get bids accepted for quality defenders but it seems we haven’t done so due to a lack of funds available. We are getting close to kick off and not too far from the transfer window close. I for one don’t want to be sat at my computer waiting and praying for that signing when the window slams shut and that sinking feeling hits once again – that we have not got a squad to compete, not for top four but for top 7 or even 10.

Shaun – right now, I don’t think we have a team to compete for a top 10. Premierleague’s teams get better and better every year because everybody want to play here, except italian player, so far.
Defence is the key. We are not event thinking about a deep bench, we don’t even have a starting 4 in the back. Babayaro should not be a starter and Ramage also. On ly Taylor and Rozenzal is a regular and Carr should be a 50-50 guy. So we need 2 starters at least. Let’s play this year. Who cares if the guy is 30. I rather have a Sol Campbell than 4 Ramage-Bramble like player.

Coloccini, Sorin, Gavrancic… Hello Sam? Stop looking only at under 25 y-old.

if there’s no money we should sign sol (free), try to get cicinho on loan, swap emre with appiah, but LB we must buy…a lot of solid players (baines, shorey, heinze, chielini, riise)…for a price of 7m… if we sell dyer we have 5m… ashley…we need 2m 🙂

There’s something really strange about this situation – it just doesn’t make sense – it doesn’t add up. Why would they not want to give Sam funds to build his team – he’s had none so far. Even when Shepherd was here he said money was available – about 15-20M plus anything Sam could get by selling players. That rings very hollow right now – because we didn’t think that was very much at the time.
There’s something going on that we don’t know about – yet.

I agree ed. Im getting very worried, business man or not. If cannot allow us 2 go into this season with this amount of cover in defence. There has 2 be something goin on. The only players we are linked with is ones we would like not who sam would like. It seems like false promises again. Gutted.

So this rumour that we have no money was this morning viscous anti-toon rumours and now this site is saying its a possibility?

If this is true, if we have just been taken over and then told no money to spend shouldnt we all be down at the SJP with your torches & pitch forks calling for a certain chairmans head? or am i being melodramatic?

Something should really happen this week, either sign someone or come clean and explain to us fans what’s the hold up.

If that doesn’t happen i think i’m gonna join Rich with torches & pitch forks.

^^ agreed Bev, im trying to tell myself to hold out until August the 10th… but i am indeed starting to get worried.

Then again you just have to remind orselves that Sam has already came out and said its been a very frustrating transfer market because of all the money being thrown around… i think this can be seen in two different ways, either hes saying we have the cash but we cant get the right players without paying crazy money or hes saying the ammoung of cash he has is preventing him from competing.

id still like to think that if Mike Ashley & Chris Mort have put the kibosh on any spending of their money then BSA would be out letting the fans know that , nothing bad about the new hierarchy as always he can be tactful, all he needs to say is we cannot spend until we sell like alot of other managers used too until this huge windfall of like 40milllion quid.

im keeping my fingers crossed, less tha a fortnight 🙁
