Allardyce and Mort Working Well Together

Good news reported in the Sunday Sun yesterday on the growing relationship between Big Sam and the new Newcastle board.

We thought something must have been sorted out because last week’s activity in the transfer market seemed to be with a lot more determination – and certainly speed – which Sam’s been asking for over the last few weeks.

Let’s see what has happened in this area – it makes good reading.

Sam Allardyce and Chris Mort
Starting to work together effectively in the transfer market

This is all to the good for us because smoothing out the transfer process is crucial to Newcastle’s future when hopefully we are all prepared before these transfer windows open. We know who we want, when we’ll go for them, what the wages offered will be – and the length of the contract plus any special provisos. We can really move quickly then.

This will allow us to get the cream of the crop at a good price, before other managers have even returned from their holidays  😀

This is how Sam explained the workings he now has with the Board and Chairman Chris Mort:

“Yeah they are listening, the process is pretty smooth now,”“I compile a dossier, put together the information on a player and give it to Chris.

“I then ask them to progress it. I’m talking to Chris once or twice a week at this stage, we all keep up to speed and we all know what’s happening and what direction we’re moving in.

“We don’t want to miss a transfer by miscommunication. There is a lot of disruption by people trying to stop a transfer you’re trying to make happen.”

“It was nice to do the Alan Smith deal in one day – it’s a miracle!”

“It’s a difficult period because we have so many balls in the air.   Most fall by the wayside but I think it’s better to have more feelers out there. The more you have, the more success you will get.”

This is really good to hear and shows that Chris Mort is not only listening to Sam, but taking it in and quickly changing things so that Newcastle can operate more effectively as a unit. We are impressed with both Sam and Chris for working together on this important part of the business. It augers so well for the club’s future.

Comments very welcome.

    Given (if fit)

    Carr Rozehnal Taylor Enrique
    Solano Geremi Butt Milner
    Viduka Smith

Subs: Harper Ramage Martins N’Zogbia, Cacapa

Initially I had Martins up front with Viduka but then couldn’t
find a place for Smith – who must start.

    Bench looks strong now

After yesterday Smith has to one of the first names on the team sheet. So :

    Smith Viduka
    Milner Butt Geremi Solano
    Enrique Rosehnal Taylor Carr
    Given/Harper

At home I would maybe replace Butt with Zog in this formation, depending on who we are playing..

Interesting. Looks like Ashley is signing-off approvals for all major asset purchases and sales, as would happen in all big companies. That could explain the Dyer situation – the boss asks “why are we selling below our listed value?” Answer – “because he wants to move nearer to his kids – best to let him go”. Whose idea was that? He was reported to be attending Upton Park earlier in the summer for treatment etc. Looks like he may have been got at then – “Tell them you want to leave for family reasons, then you don’t have to look so guilty about taking all of the sick pay and medical costs”

If the Family line was West Ham’s idea, it stinks. Has Ashley seen through this?

I see no-one including me has put luque on the bench..

What do you think will happen with him this season – will he get near the team? Can he have his role in the squad this season?

My reason is Sam has said how unconditioned he is and since that he has not played. So I am taking it that it may take him a while of intense training before he is ready to fight for a place.

Geographically speaking it’s about 2/3 hours from West Ham to Ipswich and about 5 hours from Newcastle by car. Need I say more!! Its not as if it’s the other side of the world. Newcastle is not in Outer Mongolia.

    Martins Smith

    Zog Geremi Milner

    Butt

    Enrique Roz Taylor Carr

    Given (if fit)

Subs Viduka, Luque, Harper, Cacapa, Solano

Talk is Sam thinks Viduka not quite fit enough yet, therefore he may not start. Solano can cover for RB, as well as midfield and Zog for LB if Enrique gets injured. Luque then covers for Zog left side attacking. My god we actually have loadsa options

Tez you read my mind with that diamond formation. Geremi ahead of Butt as apparently he is fitter and has played very well in pre-season. Eitehr can protect the defence and pass well. Smith in the middle as an AMC. Zog on the left cos he is class and same with Milner on the right (better than Solano) with Viduka holding the ball up front to slip Martins through. With Enrique and Drago we will have a very strong sqaud indeed.

apparantly the personal reasons behind dyer wanting to be away have something to do with him dipping his wick into a fairly notourious family in Newcastle and it all going sour…

My team would be (taking into account I think Given will miss out):

    Harper
    Carr Taylor Rozehnal Enrique
    Solano Geremi Milner
    Smith
    Martins Viduka

Bench: Forster, Cacapa, Butt, Luque, Ameobi

I would have put Ramage on the bench, but I think that having two attacking players available on the bench is quite important (especially as Butt can defend), and I think Luque has to get some more time in otherwise his head goes down…

I reckon it’ll be a tough game, but I think Martins will get on the scoresheet as well as Solano. 2-1 to the Toon.

I would like to see us play a 4-4-2- with a diamond in midfield.
    Martins———-Viduka
    Smith
    Milner——————————–Solano
    Geremi
    Enrique—–Rozenthal—–Taylor—–Cacapa
    Given (if fit)
    SUBS:Nzogbia,Ameobi,Luque,Ramage,Harper

That would give us many options as Nzogbia can cover at left back, Ramage can cover our center backs, and right back can be covered by either Solano or Geremi. Luque could cover the left wing and Ameobi could come on for Viduka if not fit enough. Am i the only one who believes MARTINS must start. He was our top goal scorer last season and i believe he will always score more goals than Smith would over the course of a season. He has pace to burn and with the right service will always be a threat, lets not forget last year was his first in the EPL and he will get better with better players around him.
    Any news on Dragotunivic?? Baines??

Tez, I highly rate N’Zogbia but I think it’s health competition to give Luque some benchwarming duties as well….as I said, if we dont give him a chance then we may never see his “true potential”. I would prob rotate the two for the first 6 games or so and see which one gives us the best performances. I’m sure the Zog will win through anyway, but Luque does need the chance.
If I had make the choice, I would actually replace Ameobi with N’Zogbia on my list, but I’m not keen on not having an out and out striker on there (Luque naturally a left-sided attacker).

Surely Cacapa is in front of Taylor … proven quality and a natural leader … Don’t get me wrong Taylor is certainly a prospect and could be a great but needs to learn from being around players like Cacapa … Taylor still makes too many rash decisions and gets out of position, and a little prone to using his elbow too much … he can sort these out and then possibly look to take Roz’s place along side Cacapa. Roz has looked rock solid and no nonesense in pre-season so lets hope he continues it into the season proper.

Expect plenty rotation during the season anyway and BSA picking teams to win matches based on who we are playing … and who knows even on ocasions may play with a sweeper in some of the tougher away games.

Provifded the players show the desire and commitment they will all get their share of time on the pitch … they don’t and well they could be in the January sales.

Looking forward to a interesting and exciting season for a change

Allardyce: “I’ve had an excellent week.

“I’ve signed three players because the last one should be finished off (later today). Jose Enrique Sanchez will have joined us by (this) afternoon once he’s put pen to paper and, with Claudio (Cacapa) and Alan before him, we’ve added quality, experience and some young potential as well.” 🙂
