Sam Allardyce Tips Andy Carroll For Terrific Future

Sam Allardyce talked today to the Evening Chronicle about one of our most exciting young prospects 18 year-old Andrew Carroll.

Sheffield Wednesday are ready to take young Andy on loan just like a whole host of other clubs in the Championship.

Sam will have to decide fairly quickly what he does with Andrew for this season.

<andrew-carroll.jpg

Andy Carroll – great player in the making

We should have enough strikers now (five not including Andrew) and a season in the Championship should set Carroll up for next year to come back and fight for a starting spot at Newcastle.

That assumes Andy continues to make the tremendous progress we have seen over the last twelve months. Wednesday boss Brian Laws has willingly joined the queue of Championship sides who would just love to take the tall striker on loan before Saturday’s kick-off.

This is what Sam Allardyce said to the Evening Chronicle about Andy this afternoon.

“The way Andy took the goal against Juventus and Buffon showed you that this isn’t just a big centre forward of the type you see in many teams today.”

“He looks capable of scoring goals, so there could be a terrific future ahead of him if he continues to develop his game.”

“In terms of how big a part he’ll play in the Premiership this season, I don’t think it’ll be that big because it’s the hardest place to break into as a young man.”

“But he’s having a great experience with us at the moment, and he’s getting more games than Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi.”

“Mark’s just come back from the Asian Cup, so it’s given Andy a great opportunity to get more experience, and that’ll only stand him in good stead for the rest of his career.”

We think Sam should send Andy out on a six month loan which means if he really takes off – he can return next February and we could still use him in our push in the League or in one of the cups.

It’s only fair to Andrew to do the right thing by him and get him out to a club that will give him games this season. That’s what he needs to develop. However, even if he spends a full season out on loan – which is a possibility – next season at this time he will still be only 19 years-old.

We think we could have a star striker in our midst – in the real Newcastle number 9 fashion of Jackie Milburn and Alan Shearer.  But he must be brought through slowly and in in the right way – and we’re sure Sam will do just that.

What do you think?

Comments very welcome.

Good call. Id think 6 months loan would be a safer bet, just in case we are short for the last part of the season. Carroll certainly looks like he could do a job in the Championship and seems capable of stepping up and developing into a Premirership star of the future.
A big striker with bags of potential.

Josh – like carroll and a great prospect – start him over owen though!!? Owen’s the best goalscorer this country has – maybe one day! Been thinking about starting 11 seems to be a real tough one looking at other views accross blogs I would go with one of two, 1st home 2nd away: Haven’t seen Cacapa yet but could replace either CB

    Given

    Carr Rozehnal Tayor Enrique

    Milner Geremi N zogbia

    Smith

    Owen Viduka
    ………………………………………………………………………

    Given

    Milner Geremi Butt Nzogbia

    Owen Viduka

yeah I’d go for 6 months – highly likely that owen will be out injured, viduka will have finished off all the pies in toon, Luque will be crying “I just need a season long run of games”, martins will have gone awol and shola will be found out
We’ll def need him back 🙂

I know Steven Taylor has been excellent for us but he is still young and imo needs to take a small step back from playing week in week out so i would pair rozehnal with cacapa (when fit) as most of my starting line ups and rotate him in, or am i being overprotective?

Agree with you Bev – shouldn’t have too much pressure in the shape of playing week in week out with associated expectation. As I mentioned haven’t seen cacapa but that was exactly my thinking

Shaun; Like you formations mate, I think they are very close to what SA will be using for home and away games. What is great about them is that we have enough strength in squad that a lot of those players can be rotated if necessary. I like the look of Carrol but he is unlikely to break into the first team this season, why not see if maybe a Premiership club want him, like Derby or Birmingham for the season. Good way of getting the lad ready for that standard of play.

In the interests of NUFC, it’s important Carrol is sent out on loan this season. A 6 month loan would suit Newcastle best, although I believe such a short term duration is only available in Scotland. So maybe a season long loan in England is best for the youngster, as he’ll develop quicker in England, unless Rangers or Celtic take on the boy?

Send him to a team in the championship who promise a regular start and let him develop into the next Newcastle and England number 9.

i thought the new rule is that the minimum loan period is one full season. none of this 1 month, 6 month arrangments anymore?

if this was the case would you let him go?

oba away in january, viduka and owen are injury prone and smith isnt prolific.

    please discuss!

Smith just has to play somewhere just behind 2 front strikers . He seems very up to speed and we must have a good start this season . He knows the premiership and is fit . The new boys will take a little time to get to full finess . I am surprised at Carr also seems to have finally got the message . Sweat blood or move on . ! He seems very positive .

Re Andy Carroll trouble is the 1 year loan period especially if we have injuries and Viduka goes off the boil and Martins keeps missing sitters – a new fresh face in the strike force like Andy C is maintaining the momentum . There are the cups as well as the long season so not sure if we can afford to let him go . Rotation Policy might be good here . However BSA wil know what is best for the lad
looks like Drago is staying at Sevilla unfortunately having allegedly penned a 4yr deal . So is BSA in Spain talking to Deco and the Drago flight was just a smoke screen . Wicked suggestion Eh !!! Howay the Lads !!!!

Andy to be kept in Toon as our strikers are injury prone and he could give us much needed cover incase we have Owen, Ameobi and Viduka Inured we could turn to Smith, Martins and Carrol.
A talented and brave lad he surely is he can take the step forwarded if given the chance.

He can storm the Premier League just as Wayne Rooney did at Everton as defenders won’t know what to expect from him. Then they would develop a sysytem of fear for him as he can take them on and score goals as he did against Buffon (Juventus).

    Owen Viduka

    Any comments?

Yea…i have comments…Owen is brittle as the titanic and Viduka is getting to be almost as large….You ask any other club in the league who they would pay the most money for and its Martins…but so many people on this site put him on the bench to start…..you guys complain about his touch or sitters or something, but in the EPL…excuse me…the Barclays Premier League…its Speeeeed that kills and and ol brittle legs and chubby dont have them…plus Martins has some cannons. I dont hate Owen or Viduka…Its just I dont rate them automatically over Oba…even when Oba doesnt score..his speed keeps one or two defenders in check all the time….but it dont matter…Owen will play only a dozen games if hes lucky this year and Viduka might pick up a strain making multiple trips to the buffet line, and Oba will be in there soon enough.

Bobby – if it is season long i’d still send him out because Sam says he doesn’t see him getting many games this season in EPL – neither would I this season – but certainly next season – so give him a loan to Championship side. We’ll see how he does – hope he gets 20 goals – then we’ll know he’ll be a superstar 😀

Id heard about the season long loan thing and I will be honest, I just thought it was a Premier League rule. IMO its a stupid rule, fair enough stop the 1 oe 2 month loan deals but how many clubs are going to let a decent player leave for 12 months without being able to recall them if they are short?

Maybe a 6 month minimum would be a more productive ruling. Ot transfer window to transfer window. In that case we could let Krul (Falkirk), Carroll and maybe even Troisi and Huintington leave knowing they will gain experience and be back available if need be in January/February.

If we didnt need them then maybe extend loan till end of season.

This 12 month ruling is complete stupidity and I feel a knee-jerk reaction to all these clubs who fanny about with 1 or 2 month loan deals.

keep oba – I like oba as well and your right when owen’s injured being as “brittle as the titanic” then his opportunity will be there and he will have a chance to take it, i think we’ll rotate anyway. Think it shows in most positions we have great strength in depth. Carroll out on loan would be good for him I think, would like it to be initially 6 months and then we can extend if necessary, if that means going to Scotland then I think that would be best

Just remembered that if whatsisname leaves before closing of window we’d still have to replace him. I hope this is not a rush to midnight scenario again …

So, with that midfielder (whomever that might end up being) we’d still need some impact off the bench … either as, ‘ok let’s lock it up now and defend our lead’ type of midfielder or ‘we need a slight alteration to our game plan because whatever we’re currently doing is not working’ type of midfielder.

In any case, he’d need to be some sort of impact player.

PS: Nice summary on Sam’s signings: http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~1086170,00.html

    News
    BackNews 6 August 2007 PUBLICITY
NEWCASTLE HAS MADE AN OFFER FOR DRAGUTINOVIC
    Monday, 6 August 2007

He doesn´t usually talk to the press, but Dragutinovic was surprised by Newcastles interest in him and realises that their contract offer will be substatially greater than anything Sevilla could offer him. “It is not all about the money, however we will make a decision over the next few days to decide whether I will stay or leave”.

The above was copied by me directly from the Sevilla web site and pasted onto this web site for you all to see. There is nothing about having signed a new 4 year deal. However he has requested and been given a new squad number – 3.

    Assuming we had evryone fit

    Line up Home

    Given

    Geremi,Taylor, Rozehal,Enrique

    Barton, Butt, Smith

    Owen Viduka, Luque

    Line up Away

    Given

    Geremi,Taylor, Rozehal,Enrique

    Milner, Butt, Barton Smith

    Viduka, Martins

Bench. Harper, N’Zogbia, Capaca, Carr, Emre, (Milner,Luque, Owen/Martins depending if home or away)

Naturally this will not stay like this for long as injuries, African Nation Cup etc will affect appearances but I think the versatility of Smith, N’Zogbia, Luque, Milner, Geremi etc is going to help loads.
