Reports coming out of Spain yesterday suggest that Sevilla have accepted a £4M bid from Newcastle for their Serbian defender Ivica Dragutinovic.
The previous amount being quoted was less than this and quite honestly £4M seems high for a 31 year-old compared to the previous figure of £2.7M.
But perhaps it will turn out to be 4M euros – we don’t know at this point – but 4M euros translates to around £2.7M.
Sevilla’s Ivica Dragutinovic
Don’t believe several reports yesterday that said Drago had already turned down Newcastle and had signed a new 4 year contract at Sevilla. When we looked at those reports they were rehashing old news and there was nothing new. Drago himself has said he will make a decision on his future today or tomorrow and we still think that will happen.
We were wrong yesterday to suggest Sam was in Spain to do the deal. Apparently he was moving his family into their new house in Newcastle, which is why he was missing from the training ground.
But he seemed very calm about the Drago deal and was not put off by reports on the Sevilla web-site that said Drago was ready to turn down Newcastle. When asked about the Drago deal he told the Evening Chronicle:
“Hopefully we will get something done later this week.â€
We are seeing a Sam Allardyce deal in progress which we find fascinating and it will be great if Sam can pull this one off. We hope Sam can do the deal because it looks like Drago is exactly the type of defender he is looking for – and of course he has lots of experience in Europe over the last two years with Sevilla.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens – but it shouldn’t be too much longer before we all know for sure.
Comments very welcome.
