Major Newcastle News Stories – 11th August – 2007
August 11th, 2007 by Ed Harrison · 41 Comments
News today mainly concentrates on our game at Bolton which we have to win to get off to a great start in the league. A win with a clean sheet would be the perfect result to Sam’s career at Newcastle.
Reports that Dyer, Luque and Solano may all be on their way out of Newcastle.
Mark Allison is just 2 days and 30 miles off the finish of his John O’Groats to Land’s End run. If you can possibly donate to the St Benedict’s Hospice on Marks’ behalf – that would be just great. Mark’s donations have just broken the £20K mark.
Just a fantastic effort by the determined and courageous Newcastle United supporter. If the Newcastle players today show the same courage and spirit as Mark – we’ll win easily!

An update on a charity run by Mark Allison from John O’ Groats to Land’s End on behalf of St. Benedict’s Hospice. Mark had this new message on his web-site this morning.
“Thanks to the new sponsors today for getting the total up to an incredible £20,750!”
” I’m enjoying getting stuck into the climbs of Bodmin Moor having done about 9 miles so far.”
“I can’t tell you how proud I’m feeling right now. True Geordie Pride.”
“It’s showing in my pace which is making things so much easier than this time yesterday.”
“Oh and did I mention that I’ve passed the 800 mile point.”
“Good times!
Mark finishes this coming Sunday and here’s Mark’s web site where he has a daily log and all kinds of good information about his fabulous effort. If you can contribute to Mark’s efforts please do so at this just giving site

Mark Allison – looking so happy as well he should be – only 30 miles left to the finish – he’s done fantastically well – but there again – he is a Geordie
There are reports in the papers that we may be losing Dyer, Luque and Solano before the season starts. We think Dyer will go to West Ham and there’s a chance Luque may end up at Levante in Spain. But we don’t think there’s much chance of Solano leaving us – and not even sure why these stories on Solano are coming from. But the decision rests with Big Sam and he will not let Luque or Solano go unless he has adequate replacements lined up and ready to come in. The last thing we want for this season is another under-strength squad.

Kieron Dyer – expect him to end up at West Ham before too much longer
We would expect Sam Allardyce to get a good reception at the Reebok stadium today after all he did for them over the last eight years. But from the initial comments on our story from Bolton fans – don’t bank on it. Most think he’ll be booed. Why fans boo players and managers just because they left the club is beyond us – where has all the gratitude gone. Life’s just too short to hold grudges – but we’ll find out in less than 5 hours what reception Sam does get. We think we must win this game against Bolton to get our season off to a good start – getting a little nervous now waiting for the game to get under way.

Sam Allardyce – deserves good reception from Bolton fans – but will he get it?
We run a story one one of our most favorite players at the club and probably our best and most consistent performer in 53 games last season – James Milner. A good interview with the Journal today and James can’t wait to start the season. This boy is the perfect professional and so mature and good for his age – still only 21 years old. We think James and Big Sam are going to have a great relationship together and watch out for James to get even better this season under Sam’s leadership and guidance.

James Milner – great young professional who will only get better under Big Sam’s guidance
It looks like Sam has decided on Geremi to be his first captain at Newcastle United. Reports in the Journal suggest Sam made his decision at the training ground at Benton, after yesterday’s session. Geremi will lead the team out today at Bolton and we think this will be received as a good choice by the fans. Geremi is experienced, a good player and certainly was very well liked as a team player and person at Chelsea. Great choice in our opinion.

Sam and Geremi- a new pop group? – no – it’s our new manager and captain at Newcastle
Finally here’s some funny football quotes – to lighten up the day
“Offside is, when the referee whistles.” -Franz Beckenbauer on the complicated offside rule
“The next game is always the next one.” – Matthias Sammer
“Celtic jerseys are not for second best, they don’t shrink to fit inferior players” – Jock Stein
We always appreciate your comments on our Daily Update.
Please keep your comments civil and decent because we have lots of youngsters reading the site – thanks

I’m going for a one goal win although I expect a really tough game I think our quality player will win the day. Milner to score & Viduka to score the winner!

I’m not too pleased about the Solano stories. The last I read on Nobby he was happy in Newcastle being an ‘adopted geordie’. Dyer to go…fair enough – he’s been trouble from day one – but as for one of our most loyal servants to be begging Sam to leave rankles a little. If Solano goes however , then he does go with my best wishes after all the effort he’s shown…Dyer on the other hand – well that’s a different matter. I only hope we’re not selling Dyer at a time when he’s about to hit form. He’s been injured on and off since Gullit payed 6m in 1999 – but remember, he’s only 28 and he’s had the best medical attention money can buy whilst at toon – as well as a massive rest (footballing wise)- heaven forbid that the hammers might get to see the best of him…I hope I’m wrong.
Prediction for today – Newcastle to win by 2 clear goals – Smith & Martins: Good God – the optimism’s back.

I think that whu are throwing solano into the mix just to cover up the balls up they made first time round…..and now paying 8 mill for both will save face for them ……but i say f.o. we want sol to stay

25 G. // Aug 11, 2007 at 3:37 PM
We can only mess this one up can’t we?
Martins shouldve passed the ball to Milner on his 2nd,
luckily it went it, he might be topping the scoring sheets,
and NUFC may be topping the league after day 1 who knows
good start for our confidence isnt’it
good stuff
@ admin : Maybe we should have a seperate topic for the match itself, cause we’re cheering offtopic overhere:)
26 G. // Aug 11, 2007 at 3:39 PM
@ rob: correct, we shouldnt concede before half time, then we should be good
another goal for us would settle it prolly

Three up at half time, who wouldv guessed that?
Sam look’s like he got it right with his tactics
Everyone seems to be playin well, maybe a little too much long balls
Mark is playing good, but sometimes he gives me the impression to be a little tired..
Carr the only one i would wanna change for now

Great performance by the TOON!!!
Now we just need to maybe switch to 4-4-2, slow the game down and keep the ball on the ground.
Everyone sad Spurs are gonna break the top 4, well we (i hope ) beat Bolton in 30 minutes while they were beaten by the Mackems hahaha. Newcastle for Champion !!!!!!!!!

38 ToonKing // Aug 11, 2007 at 4:05 PM
@evil dick : 1-0 N’zogbia with a freekick from the right that nobody touches and it ends up in the net.
2-0 Martins with a great overhead shot after a cross
3-0 Martins with a deflected shot from far out
and Geremi is captain.
39 Soren // Aug 11, 2007 at 4:07 PM
This is absolutely fantastic football. We are all over the pitch, and Bolton have only had Speed’s shot, and nothing more. We are dominating this game, and I hope it continues in the second half
btw. Has any of you watching the game, noticed that only the Newcastle fans have been singing all the gam??
40 evil dick // Aug 11, 2007 at 4:08 PM
get in!
41 G. // Aug 11, 2007 at 4:15 PM
Carr shouldv blocked that shot
