Solano Needs to Move South For Family Reasons

4:08 pm, Sunday, August 12th, 2007 by Ed Harrison · 45 Comments

Unfortunately it looks like it’s true that Nobby Solano wants to move to London to be nearer to his children,

Apparently Nobby has recently separated from his wife Claudia, and she recently moved to London to enhance her career opportunities, taking the kids with her.

That’s a great pity because we thought Nobby was looking really great again at Newcastle.

Nobby Solano - his kids are now living in London with his estranged wife Claudia

This is what Nobby had to say about the situation today to the Sunday Sun today:

“It causes me sorrow to have to make this decision.”“But my children have moved to London and I want to be near them,”

“It’s no secret that I have been separated for a while from my wife (Claudia), who until recently lived here in Newcastle.”

“Despite our situation, I was seeing the children almost every day, and that is what is most important to me.”

“Things have changed though. My wife decided to move to London to try to boost her career.”

“I’m very comfortable at Newcastle. The people love me and I am very thankful for that.”

“I didn’t want to play for any other club in England, but family issues have forced a change of plan.”

“I have spoken with the Newcastle directors and with the manager and they understand.”

Solano has claimed that he turned down initial advances from West Ham earlier in the summer, before his children moved south.

With the West Ham situation with Dyer’s unfortunate transfer breakdown, Nobby may have to wait a while – but surely it would be possible to give West Ham the both of them for say £8M. But we should only do that if it’s OK with Big Sam. It’s obvious we will need to bring in players to cover – and a better choice for Newcastle may be to wait for January before allowing Nobby to leave.

Solano went on:

“The chances are 50-50.”

“Everything depends on West Ham actually making an offer.”

Solano has a one year contract at Newcastle until next June.

Comments welcome.

Great player and has done well for the club but leave him go no point in keeping un happy players at the club big sam will replace him obviously. We dont need players sulking when our long term goal is to get into that top4 i can see us being in the top 4.Yesterday was 3 bonous points and if we are that hard to beat in away games we be sorted because at home we can beat anyone. If he could nearly get botlon there last year only injuires wrecked there chances towards the end of the season he can go the extra mile with us.Obviously the key is injuires if we get injuires top 10 is t5he only possibilty but if we show the passion in every game we will win most games and dont forget we have a good start we dont play any big teams unitl like november so if we get good results now we be brimming with cofidence for them games and could pick up a point.

What about getting Quaresma, or is he to expensive. He would definately be worth the money and would be a very good player for the toon.

Its a shame about Solano as he was one of our better players last season and has always been a favourite with the fans. Good luck to him if he does go to West Ham before the end of August.

love nobby. but like many have said before all the players need to be pulling in the same direction for the new regime to succeed! so, i’m for his moving on if that’s what he wants and big sam agrees . obviously if he staid he would at least play hard, until a certain #8 who is sulking around doing nobody any good….good luck to nobby and i bear him no ill will. great great toon player….

  • 4 Midjew // Aug 12, 2007 at 5:10 PM

Solano is GREAT….BUT he is getting old so lets cash in and QUICKLY get a YOUNG replacement.

Sorry to see him go, lets hope we bring someone in.

  • 5 michael // Aug 12, 2007 at 5:18 PM

Gutted by this news. He’s a legend and to let him go to the scumbag hammers disappoints me greatly.
Big Sam will have to work quickly if he is to bring in suitable replacements for these two. And really we can’t afford to let Luque go as well.

  • 6 michael // Aug 12, 2007 at 5:20 PM

P.S. Quaresma would cost more than 20million pounds. Not really in our price range considering we aren’t even in the UEFA cup!

  • 7 Bill F // Aug 12, 2007 at 5:25 PM

Nobby always gives 110% he did for Villa against us, I do not think anyone would have hard feelings against him for having to leave us. I would be sorry to see him go and hope he can resolve his family problems. It’s obvious Dyer doesn’t want to play for us anymore so the sooner he goes the better. I hope he manages to sort himself out, he has so much talent it would be a pity to see it wasted.

    shaun wright philips ?

  • 9 Dingo // Aug 12, 2007 at 5:44 PM

SWP was looking well nifty today against the brummies… i would love to see him @ SJP, … maybe get Big Sam to sneak Alves from under the noses of Man U/Chelski, buy SWP and Riquelme… that would make me smile :P

  • 10 gordon // Aug 12, 2007 at 5:46 PM

nobby has been a top servant for the club but his legs and big sams new regime might be a bit much, dyer, carr, babyaro, luque and the constant rubbish of ameobi need to be sold and top replacements brought in.But nobby will go with his head held high.

  • 11 Nick C // Aug 12, 2007 at 5:55 PM

Nobby has been one of our favourite players over the last decade. I cannot believe that he has come out with this now.

Plenty of people have to put up with this type of problem in today’s world. He has been binned by his Mrs for playing away and having a sprog with another lass and now she has done one to London. He has made his bed, now he has got to lie in it.

Surely, he can live with the current situation for nine months? Surely he has enough wedge to hire/buy a helicopter and get down to the capital whenever he wants.

I have always liked the lad, but I think he owes us a last great season.

  • 12 toonoholic // Aug 12, 2007 at 5:58 PM

top of the league yay !

  • 13 Alex // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:02 PM

Its a shame but if he needs to leave then we should not stand in his way.He has been a great asset for a long time, something you cant say about a lot of other players over the last few years.I would love to Shaun wright Phillips brought in to replace him.And i would also like Van Der Vaart .He would definatley strengthen our midfield.

  • 14 rich // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:09 PM

    my god…

  • 15 rich // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:13 PM

frickin women…. i cant believe this… why doesnt Nobby just take her to court and get custody??

if my partner wanted to bolt 400 miles away i would taker her to court!

im happy we are toip of the league :-) at elast for the next 3 days but this just annoys me, BLOODY WOMEN.

Why cant he be gay like Jermaine Jenas???!?!?!?!

  • 16 carl // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:16 PM

hi,off the subject here, does anyone think that owen will be able to knock martins off his starting position? i cant see owen getting fit enough long term and scoring enough.i see martins being amazing this term.

  • 17 carl // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:20 PM

lol why doesnt nobby say sod your career to the ex and buy her a house and give her a wedge of cash for the nxt year or so,please every1 remember that nobbys a class act and will set up alot of goals .ohj and cant his missus servive off that hefty child support nobby will be paying!!!

  • 18 roscoe // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:27 PM

Nobby has been a Toon servant! been great watching him for all these years giving his all in every game he played.
Best of lick to him if he does go! Howay Nobby!

Lets sell them both to WH for 7/8mil and bring in one class midfielder like Riquelme!

    Top of the LEAGUE!!!

  • 19 roscoe // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:28 PM

    sorry “luck”

carl – owen will need to work really hard to see a starting place this season!

  • 20 rich // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:28 PM

^^ Carl i completely agree, i will be gutted if i see him whipping in pin point crosses for the hammers or spurs… GUTTED.

it sounds a bit like Nobby doesnt even wan to fight it, sounds almost as if he wants to be playnig in London :-(

  • 21 Hammy // Aug 12, 2007 at 6:55 PM

Footballers wives!!!!!!!!! better known as gold diggers……Claudia is probably off as the money making machine…AKA.. Nobby’s career is winding down, I feel sorry for the kids as they will be getting messed around. Good luck Nobby

  • 22 Bev // Aug 12, 2007 at 7:29 PM

Well if Nobby had kept it in his pants and not cheated on his wife then he wouldnt have to move down south to be with his kids, i’m sorry but i have no sympathy for all this ‘family reasons’ rubbish, millions of people have to work away from home and do it without gettin £20,000 a weeks wages, never mind a year!!! and what a suprise it west ham who he wants to go to, suspect???!!! bet he wouldn’t go o fulham, reading or charlton to be with his family if it meant he took a pay cut. so dissapointed in you nobby, its all about westham giving him a little nudge with a whopping pay packet.

  • 23 Bev // Aug 12, 2007 at 7:31 PM

and don’t even get me started on dyer lol, oh and do nobby and dyer get loyalty bonus from newcastle?? i bl**dy well hope not as that is technically asking for a transfer request!!

  • 24 Bev // Aug 12, 2007 at 7:32 PM

sorry, major anger at this news :D

  • 25 Hammy // Aug 12, 2007 at 7:41 PM

That’s fine Bev, feel better now?

  • 26 Bev // Aug 12, 2007 at 7:42 PM

    much, thanks hammy!

  • 27 Chappa // Aug 12, 2007 at 7:43 PM

    Devastated..!!!
very big fan ov wor nobby!! 110% each and every time in the black n white jersey.be very very sad 2 see the back ov him :( but like stephen said above ^^ we dont want players at our club who dont really want 2 be there.time 2 move on nobby :(

  • 28 Hammy // Aug 12, 2007 at 7:44 PM

    Good for you…

  • 29 rich // Aug 12, 2007 at 8:15 PM

what a crap day…. i went to see Transformers with my bro today… qued for ages only to get second in line and then it sold out… BLOODY KIDS, THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT TRANSFORMERS!! DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE UNICRON IS. BAH!

I get home and someones been messing with my internet conection, went down from 7-Mpbs to a constant 131-KPBS ISP says i have to wait 3 days for my BT profile to reset :-| so no NUFC TV or Porn :-|

And now Nobbys leaving…. if we werent top of the league after humping Bolton i would be suicidal.

    Sunday Bloody Sunday…. ARGHHHHH!!!!

  • 30 Jeff D // Aug 12, 2007 at 9:09 PM

If there was any justice in this world west sham would be down now! and Rich would have his NUFC TV and porn.Bloody west ham!!! hope they go down this term!

  • 31 LiamBirchy8 // Aug 12, 2007 at 9:34 PM

we have been linked with yepes, we have apparently been offered him by psg according to the sunday sun

  • 32 Tom_Toon // Aug 12, 2007 at 10:08 PM

A replacement for Nobby isnt a priority, we need a RB as good attacking and defending full back. I suggest Arne Friedrich.

  • 33 LiamBirchy8 // Aug 12, 2007 at 10:09 PM

justin hoyte is a must for right back, carr just doesn’t have the pace.

  • 34 adam // Aug 12, 2007 at 10:30 PM

iv heard a from somewhere that john terry wants to move to newcastle for family reasons.

  • 35 michael // Aug 12, 2007 at 10:53 PM

Rich – Like your point about unicron. These young wippersnappers have been reared on a diet of Transformers Energon. Computer generated cartoons annoy me as much as West Sham.
Whilst I’ll be sad to see the last of Bobby’s boys (Nobby and Dyer) they haven’ t been up to scratch and are hardly born winners. The misdemeanours of their pasts have caught up to them and us. Just worried that the squad will look very thin if we loose them both.
(Technically Dyer was signed by Guillit, and Nobby by Dalglish, but they were at their best under him. And for those who spotted it Milner doesn’t count cos he was only there for a month under Sir Bob.)
    Interesting comments from today:
“West Sham players hate Curbishly” Paul Konchesky at London Norn Irish
“I don’t trust these players yet” + “They’re only playing 40% under my control” Big Sam commenting on the early stages of the Newcastle revolution.

  • 36 rich // Aug 12, 2007 at 11:54 PM

    @Michael

it annoys me how they made the new transformers… the original was very dark, you had transformers dying all the time but the new stuff is so politically correct its drives me nuts, i mean one little guy was shocked when i told him that Optimus Prime had died… he hadnt seen the single most important scene in cartoon history! the death of Optimus Prime & birth of Rodimus Prime!

anyway, im straying of off football here… i was thinking Sneijder would be a good replacement for Solano… but low and behold Real Madrid have signed him for 19 million. oh well….. cicinho?…..

it will be a sad day when we see nobby leave the SJP….. A G A I N.

  • 37 Eamonn // Aug 13, 2007 at 12:30 AM

It’s sad to hear Nobby looks to be leavin Toon. Remember his 2nd goal V Everton last year? Wrong footed them by hitting it with the outside of this right boot, awsome strike, great player , great man. Good luck to him, he’s right to be putting his kids first. I hope NUFC still give him a testimonial, he deserves it for his years of service to our cause.

  • 38 Lamesley Mag // Aug 13, 2007 at 4:52 AM

Nobby should be allowed to leave if we receive a decent fee plus we buy a replacement before he goes. Many people work away from their families these days; it’s nothing new……

I like Nobby and prefer that he stay, but NUFC must come first!

  • 39 Arthur Prince // Aug 13, 2007 at 6:39 AM

Lads– Who are the transformers ?Surely not those Planes which turned into men and vice versa which my son used to play with a long time ago . If not do any of them play at right back .? Carr is not up to it and with Nobby wanting out and not a lot on the transfer news on Sundays –I hate sundays .

  • 40 Arthur Prince // Aug 13, 2007 at 6:45 AM

Nobby is a legend but as everyone has said we must have players who are 100%focussed on the job . Good luck to him but at this rate West Ham will have 1/2of last years squad intheir team . Sholud be good for 13th at best !! Should have been relegated with those points which werent deducted .Still good for them to get beaten .

  • 41 Tito // Aug 13, 2007 at 8:24 AM

Bah!! Let him go if he really wants to go to the Spammers! Family reasons? My foot! So he wants his kids to get knocked about by those London backalley kids? blowing weed in the air together and watch Spammers’ games on some morning glories-filled fences?

He can be a legend here and its all up to him if he want to attain that status. Dyer has lost his chance, Given has grabbed his chance, Big Al has made full use of the chance.

Now Nobby has to decide if he want to become a legend at the Toon and be remembered by millions of Magpie fans worldwide, or he want to be remembered as “just another former NUFC player”.

No matter what’s the outcome, i believe BS has greater plans for NUFC. Who knows he might be weighing up a move for a top right back now!

  • 42 Bill F // Aug 13, 2007 at 12:12 PM

Not a lot of sitting on the fence then!! I didn’t know about some of the background to the wannabeaways and it’s easy to lose some of the sympathy for them. On the other hand if some lass is waving her assets at a hyper testosterone laden bloke who has split with his missus it would be bloody hard to resist. I wouldn’t cast the first stone!! I wonder if some of the people having a go at Nobby have kids of their own? On the player side I still think Clerc of Lyon would be worth looking at, he is young and has looked classy and competent on the occaisions I seen him play. Pity about Schnieder.

  • 43 Tom_Toon // Aug 13, 2007 at 1:22 PM

If he has split from his wife, why would he want to move closer. Just gets the kids up to newcastle ocassionally

  • 44 Tom_Toon // Aug 13, 2007 at 1:23 PM

Francois Clerc is fairly good, rather have Arne Friedrich though :)

  • 45 rich // Aug 13, 2007 at 8:18 PM

Tom Toon… he could just fight for custody instead of letting the Wench steal his kids… im sure he can afford a better lawyer than his gold digging wife :-|
