Big Sam seems to be having a bit of a hard time of it. He’s lost Kieron Dyer to West Ham and it was a real bolt from the blue when we learned Nobby Solano was having family difficulties and also preferred a move to a London Club.
But we wonder if Solano’s situation is a little easier to solve than Kieron’s. Apparently his wife, Claudia, has recently moved to London – and perhaps if Nobby could stay until January maybe there’s a chance the situation could right itself.
Let’s take a look.
Nobby Solano – too good to move on – perhaps he can stay at least until January
It seems an easier trip for Nobby to get to London than for Dyer to get to Ipswich – since it’s only a 3 hour ride in the train. We’re also sure Sam would do all in his powers to ensure Nobby can get to London regularly. In Solano’s case we think there may be other solutions than just have him leave the club.
As usual Sam was helpful as ever in his comments this afternoon, and he has obviously taken a liking to Nobby since he started working with him this summer. It’s also not surprising that Nobby has been outstanding for Newcastle since Sam came. It’s just a pity Nobby has to move – we’d love to have him stay. Let’s be truthful here – he’s a lot more popular and given much better service to Newcastle than Dyer ever did. Nobby loves the club and the fans love him.
Here’s what Big Sam said on the Official Newcastle web-site regarding Nobby’s situation this afternoon:
“Nobby Solano has a similar problem to Kieron in that he wants to be nearer to his family and if that needs to be resolved then it could be the case that he leaves the club,”
“At the moment there has been no offer and I don’t particularly want him to leave, but we will discuss these problems and see how things work out.
“Nobby’s had a great pre-season and was disappointed not to start at Bolton last week.
“He is a smashing lad and I’ve particularly enjoyed listening to his band and I would be sad to see him go if that was to happen.”
We wonder if that mention of Nobby’s band was uttered by Big Sam without smiling 😀
The bottom line is we hope Nobby will stay with Newcastle – it would be unfortunate if Nobby missed out on Newcastle becoming successful again – and maybe – just maybe – his personal problems could sort themselves out longer term.
Just a thought – and of course we don’t know the personal situation other than what’s been reported.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #2If he goes, he goes.
Just means there is more space for younger and better new faces at the club.
I say bring it on, much as I like Nobby.
And finally, Dyer’s gone – get in.
Silly Hammers!!!
Now, what was his name……
Ah yes,
Riquelme…

Comment #3never mind that, we need a CB a RB and a Dyer type replacement. And Sam says we want ONE more !!!! I dont know by his comments what he ment though he said ‘we want one more’, after he said we are in ‘negotiations for Faye’ and then after that he said we are ‘currently looking for more players’ so whether that means we are getting just Faye, Faye and one more, or Faye and a few more is unclear but i expect we may get Faye and one more. With Faye in we need a RB say Belletti and then a AM Ferndandes is off to Everton so who can we get I would love if we spent Big on Deco or Mancini, even Motta who is available at 4m.

Comment #6Ross G – Motta? As in Tiago Motta? He’s a defensive midfielder, not attacking. And he’s suffering from depression, or was, pretty much all of lat season.
I say Riquelme, because he is back atg Villareal now but does not want to be.
If not, Kallstrom, Van Der Vaart, Aquilani or Deco.

Comment #7Just read Dyer’s comments on West Ham website (roughly says)…’i don’t mind playing on the the wings or as a defender’ pah! didnt like playing in those positions for us. anyway good riddence, and i hope thats the end of the ‘family reasons’ transfer rubbish. Don’t really mind if Solano goes as long as we find a suitable replacement for some competition for Milner.

Comment #8or Bentley? It would probably take a bid of 10M+ but I recon it would be good value. Replace Dyer with Bentley? Yes please.
I do remember BSA saying he was finished looking in England because there was nothing left but he may be overlooking the former Gunner.
Either way I feel we are still light in the creative department. Really looking for Barton to be that guy but with him out and Emre not high in Sam’s plans I think we could do with someone with a creative streak to step in.
Not sure about Riquelme, great player but tempermental, would cost huge wages and might be a little lighweight for the premiership.
Prefer someone like Juninho from Lyon.

Comment #9It will be a sad day when Nobby goes, but what i think is going on is this, yes a problem with his wife and children being in London, but why London, how long has Nobby been back at SJP?, seems a funny place to go to when your husband is playing in Newcastle. Has anybody asked the question where was she living when he was at Villa?
Maybe Nobby himself has looked at the squad now at SJP and thought that his time was definately limited with all the new faces and in positions that he plays in. Maybe he did not want to rock the boat. Nobby by all accounts is a gent, and he has went about getting a move the quiet way and used his family as an excuse!
Whatever the reason he will be missed and he deserves all recognition for being a good club player when with us.
SA literally been interviewed on Tyne Tees TV. He makes all geordies happy telling us Dyer definately gone to WHU. He also went on to say that he had talked with Nobby about his position, and that “NO” club has been in touch with NUFC about him so he is staying put.

Comment #10Would love Nobby to stay, however, lets be honest – he’s now on a downward slope due to his age. shall we take a bit of money for him while we can??
Served the club really well and he can still do a tremendous job for us so i hope everything is resolved.

Comment #12If we can pay Luque his wages for the next 4 years and Dyer’s for the past 8, financially I think we can keep Solano.
It’s not like he wont be used this season and there are still few around with the vision and technical ability of Nobby.
I for one will cry myself to sleep if he leaves. But I must admit I feel there is more behinds the scenes than we are led to believe. I mean he said he wanted to end his career (next year) in Peru. That would make seeing his children regularly pretty difficult.
Anyways, dont mean to slight the guy, what a legend!

Comment #14Mick I read the same and thought the exact same. “If I am asked to play in a wide position I am happy to do that” no you arent you’re miserable and you’ll let everyone know about it. And surely the fans of NUFC deserve at least a mention after his EIGHT years at the club.

You hvent seen the latest story on Skysports mate titled:
Big Sam: NOBBYS STAYING
YIPEEEEEEEE
“Nobby has talked about his family situation and that’s obviously something we have to try and resolve,” said Allardyce.
“But at the moment, unlike Kieron, where West Ham have come in with a big offer, nobody has come in for Nobby. So he stays with us and he really is not someone I would want to lose.”
work your magic Big Sam, just employ Johnnie Cochran to get Nobby custody of his kids.
and lastly, Dyer has gone thank frickn god, we now have an extra 80K per week to spend on actual talent that will be able to play and not just warm up the physio room.
im not fickle, i used to like dyer but my god he is the most dis-loyal ego-manistical (is that a word?) peice of crap ive ever seen in a black and white shirt. good riddance to him.
i hope West Ham get relegated just so i can see Dyer play in the championship where he deserves.. infact he doesnt even deserve to be sweeping the streets the complete and utter waste of space, time and our money.
id like to know how much we paid him over 9 seasons to play 200 odd games, i think he made an impact on 1 or two og those 200 games.
ONCE AGAIN THANK GOD, AND THANK YOU YOU SILLY BLOODY HAMMERS 🙂

Comment #16Brilliant news that the t**t has gone.Overpayed ,underperforming bighead is how i will remember him.On the downside Solano wants to leave, lets hope they are replaced with someone with the same sort of skill and vision and intellegence as Nobby but with a bit more pace.

Comment #20Rich – I read that – but when you read Sam’s full quote – he says he’d like to keep Nobby – not that he’s going to keep him. But it would be nice if Nobby stays with us – he can still do a job for us this season – and he’s fitter than ever.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the headlines aren’t accurate when they quote people – but it’s probably been that way forever 😀

Comment #21As long as BS buys in two or three new players (as well as Faye) then we should be fine.
Effectively, we’ve lost Dyer, Solano AND Luque. And, Duff and Emre are out for the foreseable future.
So, we don’t have much strength in midfield.
Smith, Barton (back soon) Geremi, Milner, Butt…….
Thats running very low.
We must buy in a right back, another central defender (looks like Faye) and at least one more midfielder.

Comment #22Ed, i know 🙁 im trying to be optimistic… in the end its Sams decision and i think if possible he wil just say
‘look Nobby i dont want to sell you, tell me what i can do and it will be done’
because Nobby is 32 it doesnt matter if he leaves at the end of his contract (2 years i think?) because its not like we would loose much money by not selling him now.
i hope Sam persuades Nobby to wait until at least Xmas and see how things go,
Emre is back training isnt he???
midfield: Zog, Milner, Barton, Geremi, Butt, Smith
Luque doesnt seem to be going anywhere Levante have pulled the plug hes got big wage demands and no one else wants him.
Looks like Solano may be staying.
i think we have enough cover Edd Case as it stands, but i agree id be happy with another midfielder or two should Solano go.
but ill be happy with:
Left: Zog/Milner, probably Luque
Right: Milner/Smith hopefully Solano
Central: Barton, Geremi, Butt, Smith, and Emre isnt too far away i believe.
I reckon Sam will sign someone like Diouf or Gudjonsen, someone to suppliment one of the wings in our new 4-3-3 formation.
and hopefully another strong CM.
bah… im going to stop thinking about it… i have full faith in Sams decisions, thats alot more than i could of said for Souness or Roeder.

Comment #23i forgot to say, because of MIlners versatility we ocould either sign a left or a right footed player and just move Milner to which ever opposite side.
but we need competition for every position, we need to get everyone challenging for a starting 11 spot… somthing we havent had for many moons.

Comment #24🙂 I’ve just read this at kumb.com (west ham fans site), a quote or two from dyer that a) made me chuckle, b) made me cross, and c) made me a little bit sorry for the Hammers fans 🙂
“I also see West Ham as a Club that is really going places. They have shown great ambition with the players they have brought in.
“A lot of the players that have signed have a bit of a point to prove – as have the players who came so close to relegation last season. Everyone shares that hunger – which can only be a good thing.
“”I think the gaffer sees me as quite a versatile player who can play through the centre. But if I am required to step in to cover for any of the wide players that would be okay because I am comfortable on the left or the right – and happy at full-back as well.
Honestly, the nerve of the guy! We have SO got to do the double on west ham this season, fo SO many reasons.

Comment #27Agree with ed case we need a RB CB [Faye]and a quality midfielder.Dyer has said he will play anywhere 4 west ham ,pitty he didnt say that under sir bob the big headed wa&*ker.Good ridance we dont need that type of player at the club .Trying to make sense of what sam said about how many players he wants in .Did he mean faye and 1 more ,because he also said we are looking to spend more money after he had a word with the chairman and owner .Whats your thoughts ED???

Comment #28“…unlike Dyer noone has come in with an offer” sounds like he’s prompting Portsmouth to make an offer. Hope its not true but you get could sort of hear what BSA was really saying in his comments about Dyer after the transfer first broke down (“I guess we value him higher than they do”) and he could be using the media in similar fashion.

Comment #34Toon1 – I think Sam meant one – including Faye – but wouldn’t read too much into that. Think Sam wants to get good players when and if any become available – i’d like to see 3 more coming in – at least. Far better go for it – we’re very near a really good squad – you never know where we may end up at the end of the season. maybe we could get champions league (keep that quiet at the moment) if we boss the teams like we did Bolton last week.

Comment #37I would love Riquelme as an attacking midfield option the man is a footballing genius. Glad Dyer is gone he had no bottle or back bone. I think our main focus though is still a right back if belletti is not available would wes brown be? I would hope we could keep solano because he still looks good and can read the game and trap a ball better than the majority on the team plus his distribution is still amazing!! I think a right winger would also be good as cover for milner.

Comment #38Faye and one more player to come. Thats how i read BSA words. That player will be most probably a RB. A creative midfielder is nowhere near the top of our list of priorities. AS for a creative midfielder i wouldnt like the over-priced, lazy and unconsistent player that is Riquelme. Id prefer a good passer with a good shot on him that will get stuck in with a good work rate. Aka Raul Meireles or someone along his lines.
