Rozehnal Gives Glowing Report on Cacapa

David Rozehnal got to know all about Newcastle’s new central defender, Claudio Cacapa, during his two years in the French league.

The Czech defender played for PSG while Cacapa captained Lyon to their fifth consecutive league title last season.

David talked about his rival for the center-back position to the Official Newcastle United Web Site and it’s very interesting what David had to say.

David Rozehnal – Glowing report on Cacapa

The 6’3” Czech defender believes Cacapa will be a big success on Tyne-side and Claudio made his first appearance for Newcastle reserves on Monday night when they beat Newcastle Blue Star 2-0 with a very strong side. Reports of the game suggest that Claudio walked through the game with confidence and authority.

Here’s what David said about Cacapa on the Official Newcastle United Web Site:

“I don’t know him too well yet as a person, but I did play against him a few times and he is a top player.”

“He played for Lyon for a long time and if you do that, you must be a top quality player.”

“He was captain and that is something special.”

“I have spoken to him since he arrived and he is a clever guy and down to earth.”

“He does not go on like a big star and he is a likable character.”

Rozehnal, who has looked very solid in the heart of Newcastle’s defense in pre-season and last week at Bolton has welcomed the arrival of further reinforcements in the United back four

David went on:

“It is good that we are getting some more quality defenders in now.”“It is now up to us to help them adapt quickly into the team.”

“At this time we have a lot of good players here, some good young players and generally a strong squad.”

We’ve got to say how impressed we are with where David is coming from. He’s thinking of the team all the time and we realize there will be great competition for the two central defender positions this season. It’s not clear to us that Rozehnal and Taylor will always be first choice.

Cacapa is extremely good and has much more experience than the others so we’ll find it very interesting to see how things work themselves out. Then if Edmilson arrives at the club in January we’ll have four great central defenders in Taylor, Cacapa, Rozehnal and Edmilson. The competition for places will be terrific and will ensure whoever has the shirt will need to turn in an outstanding performance to keep their place.

Hey – wonder if that’s the general idea 😀

Comments very welcome.

i reackon that cacapa at right back then stick taylor between cacapa and rozenal then he can learn between two experienced cb’s which can only be good for his development.

I do believe Taylor needs games and has huge potential but if Cacapa is as good as everyone is saying and adapts to the Premiership I think it should be Cacapa and Rosehnal as our starting two, and let Taylor rotate with them both. There is plenty of games, especially if we get in europe next season.

CB is a position for experienced players and Taylor will continue to develope especially now he will be learning off players like Cacapa and Rosehnal rather than Bramble and Moore!!

But then again when you see him play with everything he has its hard to not play him regardless of being young!!

I think BSA will start with Taylor & Roz bringing Cacapa on later in the game. Is it me or do all the games this season just seem massive…I’ve got more prematch excitement than I’ve had for many a game…and it’s Villa!? He he 🙂

Haven’t been this enthusiastic at the start of a season for many years!!!

I can see great things ahead with BSA in charge.

Still need a rightback, leftback and a creativ midfielder before the transfer windows shuts though.

Tez – Agree with you that if cacapa is as good as he should be the the strating pair should be rozehnal and cacapa. Taylor has time to learn and grow and will still get games

I reckon an injury or two will decide who plays, nice to have depth in the squad though, especially in defence!!

Can’t se Sam changing the 11 who started against Bolton, but will expect to see Owen and Capaca early in the second half, probably in place of Martins and Taylor.
Does anyone know when Enrique is expected to be fit enough to play?

Think that Cacapa is probably our best center-back – because of his skill and experience – but we hope Taylor makes the team – we’ve gone from paupers to kings for center back – especially if we also get Faye and then Edmilson in January. But that’s what we need – players fighting for the shirt in very single position – just look at first 45 mins against Bolton – we looked just great.

    Things are looking very positive!!!!

Starting line up for Villa should be same as at Bolton, Owen will be a sub and probably come on for Martins to add competition!!!!

Taylor and Roz look quality together!!! just need a solid Right Back!! and I hear Riquelme is available!!!!!

Why not put Taylor at RB? Cacapa and Rozza in the centre.

Or rotate RB between Cacapa and Taylor.

i think there has to be some kind of rotation system, cause Roz and cacapa haven’t come here to sit on the bench and Taylor is too good for the bench too. Can cacapa play right back thought he was just a center back.
    Lineup for Aston Villa

    Solano Taylor Rozehnal N’Zogbia
    Geremi Butt Smith Milner
    Viduka Martins

Subs : Forster Cacapa Dyer Owen Enrique

I think the best CB duo we can play is Roz and Cacapa. We’re on 1 position struggling and that is our RB position; so easy to solve let’s play Taylor at RB as long as Belletti isn’t a certainty that he comes to the toon.

It simply is impossible to put Cacapa on the bench over Taylor; even if he already has a fantastic attitude and play style; he still has to learn a lot more and gain experience.

    My team for Saturday would be;

    Taylor – Cacapa – Rozehnal – N’Zogbia
    Geremi – Butt – Smith
    Martins – Viduka – Millner

Subs: Enrique – Owen – Carr – Forster – midfield player (Dyer and Solano will be gone by then).

So 2 things we still need:

    – RB: Belletti; I think this deal will be done shortly
    – Midfield: Find a good player to replace Dyer and Solano. For me Riquelme or Deco would be fantastic for the toon.
