Newcastle To Move Fast For New Players

5:00 am, Friday, August 17th, 2007 by Ed Harrison · 28 Comments

Manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed Newcastle have been in talks with Bolton over a move for Abdoulaye Faye.

The Senegal star has constantly been linked with a move to Newcastle recently, and Big Sam confirmed on Thursday the two clubs had indeed been in negotiation over the transfer of the 29-year-old.

With Kieron Dyer having successfully completed his move to West Ham, Big Sam says the club have to be ready to act quickly should the right player become available during the last 2 weeks of the transfer window.

How right he is.

Big Sam – Newcastle will move fast if suitable players become available before August 31st

Sam talked to the Official Newcastle United web-site yesterday afternoon:

“We have been in talks with Bolton over Abdoulaye Faye but I’m not sure how far along they are.”

We think Russell Cushing, who’s Newcastle’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), does most of these negotiations for the club, probably while in close contact with Chris Mort regarding wages and the terms of the contract.

Sam went on:

“There’s certainly room for one more and I’ll have to speak with the chairman and the owner and take it from there.”

“If one more came in and no more went out then I’d be happy.”

“We are looking for more players so we’re still going to spend some more money.”

“Quite how much I’m not sure about and not bothered about because all I’m asking is that when a good player becomes available we don’t hesitate.”

“That could happen at anytime at this stage of the season and we have to be ready should the right player become available.”

The crazy time for transfers is about to come, when moves are made in the last few days of August. It’s the time when Newcastle used to do most of their transfer business. Sam is very aware that players suddenly become available, and hopefully we’ll have the wheels oiled in case we have to move quickly. With the new procedures Chris Mort has already put in place, we should be able to move quickly should a player Sam wants become available. That’s all Sam is asking for.

The Newcastle Board and Chris Mort have already demonstrated they can move with lightning speed when they have to. A couple of weeks ago we signed Alan Smith, Claudio Cacapa and Jose Enrique in a two day spell and received plaudits from Big Sam himself.

We’d be surprised if we don’t sign at least another two players before the end of August. Two more defenders would be just great including a right back. What do you think?

Comments always welcome.

Need another midfielder, possibly a winger to replace dyer and most likely Solano aswell as a RB would be great, I dont see why we need Faye now as we have Taylor, Rozenhal and Cacapa, aswell as Ramage (Who had a good pre-season) who could learn alot, in CD.

    need three player also
    right back and tow midfielder
because Salano may be going to Protsmoth

i’d rather have belleti in than faye honestly. rb has been a problem for us with the exceptional stephen carr on board. but i’d welcome faye who can also play in def midfield position. with barton and emre out, we need to shore up the midfield to add more bite to them. if faye does play in midfield, geremi can move to rb where he used to play for chelski.

Right Back is a priority now with carr solely in contention for the slot

Ed that is a nice header do you think you could do one for the internet messenger like yahoo & msn … just a thought. On to more serious stuff … I wonder if he would go for any big names at RB. Glad to hear that the Dyer saga is finally over. I do hope that Solano remains though.

Ed, who are the RBs that may be available, at what price and would improve our team?

Are there any RBs in the Premier League or Championship that may become available over the last 2 weeks (or mad weeks) of August?

It’s a shame that we didn’t go for Luke Young, I rate him highly.

Hopefully we can sign someone who can play both right back and right mid.

Geremi can play right back though, and that will free up 1 space in midfield. Didn’t he play as right mid for the Bolton game? i remember Milner played as left forward.

Miguel would do nicely. If Sam likes Belletti then so do I. Geremi did so well in midfield I would leave him there. Danny Mills is currently down the JobCentre (joke, calm down).

5 Magpies on my lawn this morning – thats either for Silver or 5 goals this weekend – settle for either. Bring on the villa……

Giles Barnes is the ready made replacement for Dyer and back up for Nobby if he stays. This is a player we can get not someone from somebodys fantasy league team.

Its very good that we are bringing in defenders and defensively minded midfield players. What about creativity in the middle of the park though??? We need skilful, dribbling central midfield players – I think

  • 12 Stami // Aug 17, 2007 at 11:03 AM

    Jerry

dont forget we have Barton and Duff waiting to get over injuries! thats our creativity in midfield! Gerimi also didnt do to bad on the wkd! then there is also Milner, i would prefer to see him in Right Mid! he is much more effective there! although, another playmaker wouldnt hurt… Should have kept Parker

Nick – let me take a look at that one.

  • 14 Ed Harrison // Aug 17, 2007 at 1:02 PM

Jerry – Barton should be back in training in a couple weeks – but think that’s why we could do with a play-maker – maybe in Jan?

  • 15 Ed Harrison // Aug 17, 2007 at 1:03 PM

Stami – and you’ve got to think Sam’s going to make Duff into the player we know he is – cannot wait to see Damien this year. Just average last season.

  • 16 Ed Harrison // Aug 17, 2007 at 1:04 PM

Mick G – Giles Barnes – great young player – would be great future star at Newcastle.

  • 17 Tom_Toon // Aug 17, 2007 at 1:49 PM

We need a RB, it is paramount!

Can Coloccini play RB because ive only known him to play CB and CDM? He is available for 4-6mil so if he could olay RB he would be a good signing.

    Bosingwa would be nice!

  • 18 Danger Mouse // Aug 17, 2007 at 3:53 PM

Bentley, Juninho, maybe Lucho Gonzales or Meireles as someone esle mentioned.

  • 19 Tom_Toon // Aug 17, 2007 at 4:06 PM

    That was me :)

  • 20 Danger Mouse // Aug 17, 2007 at 4:09 PM

    Vaz Te & Nelson

  • 21 Danger Mouse // Aug 17, 2007 at 4:20 PM

Manny Fernandes for 6M is a steal!

  • 22 Tom_Toon // Aug 17, 2007 at 4:38 PM

Nelson is far to weak for the premiership. Vaz Te is a striker, we have enough.

  • 23 Danger Mouse // Aug 17, 2007 at 5:29 PM

Maicon Douglas Sisenando, Miguel Monteiro, José Antonio Castro

    Three explosive RBs.

  • 24 Danger Mouse // Aug 17, 2007 at 5:30 PM

And Miguel of course, although he SHOULD be entering his 5th season for the Toon, OK already I’ll move on.

  • 25 Tom_Toon // Aug 17, 2007 at 5:44 PM

Luis Miguel would be good. Dont rate Castro hes more of a wing back and not amazingly good defencively. Maicon is good but he is now a regualr at Inter and wouldnt move.

  • 26 Big Sam Fan // Aug 17, 2007 at 7:51 PM

Vanden Borre would be a great young signing and get beletti in then we have youth and experience all over the defence apart from LB but i believe that Enrique will be good enough and be strong enough for the prem

    RB: Vanden Borre/Beletti
    LB: Enrique/N’Zogbia
CB: Taylor (should be captain)/ Capaca/Ramage
    CB: Rozenhal/Faye/Edmilson in Jan
then Huntington, Edgar, Pattison Etc….can go out on loan.

  • 27 Tom_Toon // Aug 17, 2007 at 9:04 PM

FFS ive repeated this so many times, vanden borre is not available he has already mvoed to Fiorentina. He agreed a contract before the transfer window.

Anyone seen much of Branko Ilic?

  • 28 Mal // Aug 18, 2007 at 12:19 AM

Bearing in mind, when everyone is fit, we have emre, barton, duff, zog, nobby, milner, geremi , smith and butt (plus faye if we sign him) I’m not sure we need another midfielder unless nobby does go. I agree however we need a RB but not surprised we didn’t try for Luke Young. We do have others (better than carr) who can play there but we could do with a specialist and there aren’t many about. Generally I have to say sam seems to have done a fantastic job revamping the squad – it’s the strongest we’ve had for quite a few years. He’s signed some real quality, experienced players and I think geremi will be a fine captain.
