Most of the news today is concentrated on our important game with Aston Villa this evening.
With everything going very well last week it’s going to be important that the lads come out all guns blazing again in the first half – and keep the intensity up all through the game. We’ll just have to hope that Aston Villa cannot keep up the pace – and another win would be fantastic.
Also, those at the game tonight please give an extra shout for Mark Allison when he does his lap of honor around St. James’ Park. It’s now going to be at half-time – so we should be well ahead by then. Mark has raised just over £25,000 for Charity – St. Benedict’s Hospice specifically, with his magnificent 874 miles run from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
This is the last day we’ll be reporting on Mark – at least until he takes up his next challenge – if you take a look at his web-site you can see he’s does a lot of challenges for charity – really good guy.
Mark has shown true Geordie grit and determination and we’re very proud of him!
Nobby Solano is trying to arrange a football game between Peru and England, the proceeds of which would goto help the people desperately suffering from the earthquake last Wednesday. We think this is a great gesture and we think reflects so well on Nobby and the club. We are all for this and expect England to arrange a date for the match. The situation in Peru is just terrible and our hearts go out to them. Here’s Nobby – using his football fame – to do something good in the world – and we applaud him for his efforts. If he comes on in today’s match make sure we give him that extra bit of applause for this wonderful gesture.
Nobby Solano – reaching out to help his country after the devastating earthquake last Wednesday
Great interview in the Sun today with Oba Martins. Turns out Oba is very happy at Newcastle now and seems to love playing for Big Sam. He says he wants to commit long term to Newcastle and talks are going on with the club for a 5 or 6 year contract with the brilliant Nigerian striker. This is what lots of fans wanted to hear. The interview reflects well on Oba, very well on Sam and the club. Oba says he also loves the city of Newcastle – where he currently is buying a house. Oba can be a real world star and who better to achieve that with than Newcastle United
Oba Martins- loves playing at Newcastle under Big Sam – it looks like it!
A good interview with Steven Taylor today in which he talks about Newcastle’s defense. Steven has been called up for the friendly against Germany next Wednesday and we think it’s a certainty he will make his debut for England in that game. Probably as a sub – but don’t be surprised if he starts the game after impressing Steve McClaren in training. Steve is a huge admirer of Taylor – not only for his play but for his courageous attitude and personality – which was on show during the European Under-21 tournament in June. Steven wants to keep a clean sheet against Villa today – and that would be very welcome. Turns out that McClaren will be at the game.
Steven Taylor - will probably make England debut against Germany – wants clean sheet against Aston Villa today
Another good interview with Sam today where he talks about how fear droves him on and specifically fear of the sack. Sam says a lot of managers are motivated by this – and he’s no exception. If the truth was known a lot of us are driven by fear but we also know that Sam has made an excellent start to his career at Newcastle and is already well liked by the fans. A good season and it’ll quickly get to hero worship. But Sam’s as motivated to be successful at Newcastle than ever – and he knows this is his BIG chance to lead a team – not only to potential Premiership honors but also to success in Europe. We couldn’t imagine how he could have done better in his first 3 months here – and we think he’s the perfect manager for the club – a Big Man with a big personality for a very big club. A win today is vital to maintain the upbeat spirit that surrounds the club.
Allardyce – driven on by fear – Newcastle is Sam’s big chance to hit the big time – and he knows it
A good interview today with Michael Owen in which he says again that he’s 100% committed to Newcastle United. A lot of Michael says seems to ring true – but we still wonder why he let all that stuff in the summer about him leaving go on. But then again we guess when you are as famous as Michael – these rumors will always happen and to keep denying them probably sets a bad precedent. Anyway – we look for a goal from Michael today – and a win – and the good feelings with Newcastle fans will be maintained for another week or two – at least.
Michael Owen – still not match fit but will get games for England that should help
An update on Mark Allison’s historic run from John O’ Groats to Land’s End on behalf of St. Benedict’s Hospice. Here’s Mark’s web site and if you can contribute to Mark’s efforts please do so at this just giving site. The fund is just gone over £25,000.
Mark will be featured in the match program on Saturday evening and he’ll be at St. James’ Park on Saturday for a lap of honor – it’s at half time – so we should be comfortably ahead by then.
Mark Allison – lap of honor at half-time this evening – those at the game make sure you give him a big hand
