Faye Headed to Newcastle after Rejecting Bolton Offer

8:19 am, Monday, August 20th, 2007 by Ed Harrison · 25 Comments

The protracted transfer of Abdoulaye Faye to Newcastle seems likely to be completed early this week as the People are reporting that Faye has turned down a contract offer from Bolton Wanderers that would have trebled his wages.

Faye is now set to sign for Newcastle for £2M this week, which we feel is another good deal for Newcastle and Sam Allardyce.

Abdoulaye Faye - finally on his way to Newcastle?

The transfer has been in limbo presumably for several days and we can only assume that’s because Bolton have attempted to keep Abdoulaye at Bolton by improving their contract offer to him. The Senegalese midfielder, 29, was given the chance to almost treble his wages at Bolton and move up to around £20,000- a-week, and although Faye verbally agreed the deal he is reported to have changed his mind.

It looks like the way is now clear for Faye to join his old boss at Newcastle.

While this will be good news for Newcastle fans, because this will further strengthen Newcastle’s strength in depth, it has to be worrying for Bolton. There seems to be almost an exodus going on at the club with Nicholas Anelka now being widely reported today, as being unhappy at the club and wanting to leave. Bolton have not looked strong at the back in their first 3 games and immediate improvement will be expected before they land up in a relegation fight this season.

It doesn’t help that Bolton have lost their first 3 games under Sammy Lee.

Comments welcome.

Is every free kick or corner going to be taken by Geremi , he’s a big strong defender and he should be in the box for the corners or free kicks ,give Butt to take the free kicks and Smith to take the corners .

So, just so that I get this right, is he coming because he earns so little at Bolton, or because he cares about working with Sam? Anyone else think players should be loyal? I don’t care how much we may need him (which I do not know) but if the boy agreed a verbal deal, surely he should honour it, and if he does not, we should have serious doubts about his future committment. Yes?

Good news for Newcastle, but bad news for Bolton who look like relegation candidates already, especially if Anelka leaves….

Faye will be nothing more than a squad player at Newcastle, but BSA needs experienced players in the squad to build for the future.

Anyone else having big doubts about Viduka? because I certainly am!

    Ed,
Heard from local source of football websites (local language) that Newcastle seems to be after Deco (8 Million + Emre) and Cudicini (think its loan deal), have you hear anything similar? Just wanna confirm.
    Thanks

Viduka seems like a lazy player , Maybe Shearer should come out of retirement, what you think? than you see how the rest of the team plays.

  • 7 Nick // Aug 20, 2007 at 9:27 AM

give it time people, maybe the big Aussie is still finding his feet.

  • 8 Jerry // Aug 20, 2007 at 9:35 AM

Viduka – still finding his feet? He’s been playing in the Premier League for donkeys years now. Torres should be finding his feet, and look at what he did yesterday. We suffer mediocrity too gladly at NUFC!

I think fitness is Viduka’s problem at the moment as he didn’t have a whole preseason with the team. But his style may always come across as lazy just like many top quality players. He was lazy for Boro but managed 14 goals last season. He needs time to get match sharp just like Owen.

  • 10 Obafan // Aug 20, 2007 at 10:59 AM

Give him time to gel into the team and to find the way of playing in his new team. He indeed missed the whole preseason period and then it is hard to just come into the team. He needs time to find the best way of playing with Martins and if those 2 find each other than we will be so dangerous. Remember the force Viduka was last year with Yakubu. If they weren’t at Boro last season they would now play in the Championship. So be patient and everything will work out.

Faye; don’t know him that good, but if BS, who knows him really good, is keen on bringing him to St. James Park then I’ve the confidence that it will be another fantastic signing. Then go for Belletti and Deco and we will be a force which every team will fear to play against (even Chelsea and Man U).

    Viduka is not fit!

    Give him time.

  • 12 gordon // Aug 20, 2007 at 2:04 PM

I find peoples opinion on viduka utter stupidiy,he clearly isnt up to match fitness yet and did anyone actually watch him last season.

  • 13 ToonKing // Aug 20, 2007 at 2:39 PM

I dunno what game u guys saw, but Viduka was very good against Villa.
He did was he was supposed to do, he let Martins and Milner play off him and hold up play exceptionally. U saw what a great pass he gave to Martins, just let him gel a little and know his teammates better and he will give plenty of assist and score a few with headers and tap-ins.

  • 14 Jerry // Aug 20, 2007 at 3:11 PM

Viduka isn’t match fit yet he played in a tournament with Australia? What is stupid is that people are still blind to the fact that he’s been utterly useless in our 2 Premiership matches this season!

  • 15 Chris M // Aug 20, 2007 at 3:41 PM

Toonking – which match were you watching? He lost out to near enough every challenge, and sure as out never held the ball up well.

On the other hand i agree that he will fit in better with time as he fits in after missing most of preseason while eating pies and stuff, and he will score goals.

  • 16 Chris M // Aug 20, 2007 at 3:42 PM

Although i will probably be villified by many, i reckon shola may well be a better option given a chance in the ‘little and large’ combo

  • 17 iain // Aug 20, 2007 at 4:35 PM

the way butt played yesterday i wonder if a faye might end up going straight into the team as a defensive mf a position he was playing when sam signed him for bolton. butt just looked crap vs villa in every aspect of his game, passing was poor and lost the ball in dangerous positions nearly gifting villa a goal.

  • 18 Shaun Dean // Aug 20, 2007 at 5:29 PM

Diop from Fulham is now available id rather have him as DM then Butt.

  • 19 Shaun Dean // Aug 20, 2007 at 5:30 PM

Just found out that Diouf is also available now.

  • 20 Toon_ Army // Aug 21, 2007 at 8:46 AM

Carlo Cudicini nows thats a goal keeper BS should push for ,whether loan or buying .

  • 21 Toon_ Army // Aug 21, 2007 at 8:47 AM

Carlo Cudicini nows thats a goal keeper BS should push for ,whether loan or buying , sorry Chelsea’s No 2 .

  • 22 Tom_Toon // Aug 21, 2007 at 9:01 AM

Diouf is available but for 10 mil and we do not desperately need him.

Tbf we should use young Troisi in Dyers old position is need be, he looks one of the promising of our youngsters.

  • 23 Tom_Toon // Aug 21, 2007 at 9:14 AM

    most*

  • 24 Toon_ Army // Aug 21, 2007 at 9:15 AM

Lets not back track . I started of with Geremi. Why is all the free kicks and corners taken by Geremi? we need him in the box for the corners .

  • 25 Shaun Dean // Aug 21, 2007 at 5:38 PM

it is speculated that diouf is worth 10 million but i garrentee that he wont go for that amount 7 – 8 million tops
