Major Newcastle News Stories – 20th August – 2007

There is new news being reported on some of Newcastle’s transfer targets today.

We are again linked with Deco and Belletti of Barcelona and we think Sam will sign Juliano this week sometime, although news is leaking through that Barcelona rejected our first bid for the player.

It also looks like we’ll finally land Abdoulaye Faye from Bolton in the next day or two, as the player has turned down a new contract offer from Bolton that would have tripled his wages – presumably to join up again with the big man at Newcastle. There are certainly advantages in having a manager at the club that players want to play for.

  • We have our very first poll today on our web-site where we ask you to choose which right back would be best for Newcastle and we list five of them from our article yesterday. The five players are Juliano Belletti of Barcelona, Phil Neville of Everton, Jose Bosingwa of FC Porto, Cicinho of Real Madrid and Leroy Rosenior of Fulham. At the time of writing Belletti of Barcelona leads with 38% of the vote with Cicinho second on 27%. The reports today suggest that Barcelona have rejected Newcastle’s first bid for Belletti but we feel confident that he will be a Newcastle player before next Sunday. Please try to register your vote today.

Barcelona’s Belletti – Newcastle player before next Sunday?

  • News today that Abdoulaye Faye will indeed be signing for Newcastle for £2M in a day or so. Apparently Bolton have been trying to get him to stay at the Reebok by offering to triple his wages to £20K/week but Faye has turned them down. Presumably he wants to rejoin his old boss Big Sam at Newcastle and we’ll certainly be able to match those wages. Abdoulaye will give us extra strength in depth. Wonder if Sam may convert him to right-back?

Abdoulaye Faye – Newcastle player within next two days?

  • News again that we are linked not only with Belletti of Barcelona but also Deco. The News of the World yesterday reported that Newcastle may want to offer Emre plus £8M to Barcelona for Deco. That’s not a good deal for the club as Deco will be 30 years old next Monday. But we would like to see a creative player brought in before the end of the transfer window although that may have to wait until January.
If you know of any creative player, other than Deco or Riquelme, let us know and we’ll do a poll on which is best for Newcastle – probably tomorrow.

Deco – linked again with joining Newcastle

  • Light-hearted story about our ex-player and now firm Newcastle fan Antoine Sibierski. Antoine has started his Wigan career with a bang and has 3 goals in his first 3 games for the club. He talks in this article how Sunderland fans continually booed him on Saturday but then he scored from the penalty spot in the 69th minute. He says it was great to score because after loving his time at Newcastle he is now a firm Newcastle fan. Antoine will be with Wigan at St. James’ on September 1st so we’ll have to give him a good welcome – a really great guy – and yet another new Newcastle supporter. We should really ask him to leave his shooting boots back at Wigan on that Saturday 😀

  • We take our final review of the Aston Villa game of last Saturday which we know was a bit of a disppointment to most fans. But there were some positives to come out of the game too – which we prefer to concentrate on. First of all it was a good defensive performance in which Rozehnal again was excellent. he can turn out to be a super buy for us and we still need to see cacap in there. Maybe Sam can move Taylor to right back and bring Claudio in at center-back. Claudio is one of the most experienced players at the club and sam will need to start playing him soon. Also some of ouy young players continue to perform well including N’Zogbia, Taylor (although some of our readers think he wasn’t that good) and Milner who continues to get better and better. We’re sure that Martin O’Neil is disappointed he couldn’t have wrapped up the Milner transfer last August – but we’re now very pleased the deal fell through.

James Milner – continues in top form for Newcastle, just like last season

  • We quote Sam Alllardyce today on the game last Saturday. Sam says that it’s a game we probably would have lost last season and we agree with that. While the defense wasn’t immaculate against Aston Villa (who also played extremely well) it shows signs of becoming very very tight as the season progresses. Who will fit those center-back spots will also be interesting because in our view we have to get Cacapa in there at some stage shortly. At least Claudio has the distinction of being the 1000th player in the great history of Newcastle United – good for him. The first thing Sam wanted to do was build a good defense to make us hard to beat. He’s now almost done that – and done it well. It will take time to get other bits sorted out like more creative players but he cannot do everything at once – even though we’d all like him too 😀
    sam-allardyce6.jpg

Sam Allardcye – credit where it’s due – Sam’s done a great job in shoring up Newcastle’s back four

  • Finally here’s some funny football quotes – to lighten up the day 😀

“I just wonder what would have happened if the shirt had been on the other foot.” – Joe Royle

“The ref was vertically 15 yards away.” – Kevin Keegan

“One of his strengths is not heading.” – Kevin Keegan

I really hope we land Belletti as the guy is a powerful, quick and experienced defender. Then we could at long last leave Carr out of the first team and have him as back-up on the bench.

@mitch – I believe Valencia are after van der vaart, and with us not being in Europe this season I think he would prob choose them.

Altho I do agree he is a v. good player

Allthough disappointed that we didnt score/win, I’m more than happy with the defensive performance amd strength which was displayed.

However, I actually think Rozehnal could have been better, and I think he will improve over the season, once he gets more used to the english game.

One example – the Reo Coker chance. At one point in the move, just before he strikes the ball, Reo C has let the ball run too far in front of him. Rozehnal should have pressed forward and he would have cleared the ball. Instead, he kept backing off, leaving Reo C to advance and strike the ball.

Finally, please no more of the “Taylor for RB” cries. The only place for such cries is 2005.

I was going to suggest a player Leandro Lima as a player with great potential, but I think Porto have just snapped him up 🙁

yer I was thinking of Kim Kallstrom too, he has quite a large physic which may suit the Premiership. He’s a good passer, creater of play and is pretty much two footed I think. How about a £15m bid for Arteta.

1-Kim Kallstrom(Lyon) – no thanks, to slow and not a EPL player. Granted, he is a good MF-player and performe very well in France and would presumably do well in Spain (Valencia) too, but as said I’m quite sure he would be average at best in the EPL
    2-Luka Modric(Dinamo Zagreb) – would do
    3-Diego(Werder Bremen) – would do

Emre and Barton. We do notr need a fkin playmaker. Just play 4-4-2 until Barton and Emre are fully fit. We need a RB! Beletti would be ok but id go for someone like Chidi Odiah

when Enrique is ready to take his place in the team, that will release nzogbia into midfield. Then we could choose from Nzogbia or emre as playmaker both skillful and pacey. Then we would not need to spend big on 30 yearold Deco. Belletti would be a great signing and if we get him and Faye in ,then i think we will be strong in every department so long as Given gets himself sorted.

Ed I see that Sky Sports are floating a story re an Icelandic consortium plus Alan Shearer making a bid to buy the club from Mike Ashley.!!!!!

How much truth there is in this rumour is for debate . Interesting though .

Can you imagine the Icelandic money men on the Boeard with Alan Shearer as Club Chairman and Sam as Manager . Has a similar ring to Niall Quinn at the Mackems . What does everyone think or is it too much to contemplate . !!! What ever the truth NUFC is defibnately on the map in a big way theses days and that is good .

    Arthur Prince –

Saw the story on Sky Sports also, i think it wouldn’t be a bad thing having Alan Shearer as Chairman we know how much he loves Newcastle and he would make ANY FUNDS avaliable and he is so persuasive as is Sam Alardyce so we could bring anyone to St James Park.

Dont mind who owns NUFC ASLONG as funds are avaliable.

Midjew —- I agree it is essential though to have a clear vision and plan for the future .
So far Chris Mort on behalf of Mike Ashley has finally started to release funds to create a squad capable of being in the top 6 this year and therefore E urope next year and consequently to back BSA to wheel and deal with bigger and better signings in the future ie next season .
I just hope the Board have the passion and long term commitment to see it through to the success everyone craves .

i think our best team is (4-4-2): Given, Geremi, Rozenhal, Taylor, Enrique, Milner, Barton, Smith, N’Zogbia (possibly duff when he’s back), Martins and Viduka (maybe Owen when fit)

a little off topic but.. I was SJP for the Villa match and I was disgusted… not by the Newcastle performance (which was poor) but by the service on lvl 7 of the Milburn stand. I stood in line for 30 mins to get a pie and a pint (£4) and when i got to the front of the line they closed the bloody shutters on me…. when i asked them what the hell htey were doing the said ‘ no food left’… no food left i said then can i have a beer please?….. NOT ON YOUR NELLY… after they have kicked off the second half (that i missed 15 mins of, they wont sell you beer anymore!!!! Come mr. mort sort it out… pie n beer for every one please..

    anybody else had this nightmare?

I’d like to see us go after John Heitinga (Ajax) who is mainly a right back but can do very well as center back or defensive midfield.

Also we missed out on at least one very, very good defender (IMO) in the form of Vedran Corluka who is doing very well at Man City. Lets get in there before we lose out on any other good options.

Has Nobby left us, or is he injured. If neither why isn’t he playing at RB, got to be better than anyone else till we get the player we need whoever he may be. Still think Clerc would be worth pursuing.

John Heitnga is a CB who can play RB, not the other way round.
    Clerc is nothing special.

Chidi Odiah should be shortlisted. He is basically Bosingwa in a cheaper and slightly younger form.

Will only be happy about Deco if the price is right which in my estimation would be less than the quoted 8 million. Beletti and Faye i hope will sign over the next few days which would make us strong enough at the back i feel. What has impressed me looking at our current squad is how many versatile players we now have on our books (smith, geremi, n’zogbia and now hopefully faye) and its nice to be in a position where we can shift and change things up if nessesary. I think the panic about our lack of creative play will subside when we have Barton back in the frame (assuming he doesn’t end up getting a few years) will make a huge difference and the comment about him being our Gerard i think will prove to be spot on. Come on lads lets forget about last weekend and destroy those smogs!!!!

Seriously some of u guys are way off in footballing matters.

    1) We don’t need a creative midfielder we 3 : Barton, Emre, N’Zogbia.

    2) If it were that we get a creative midfielder u guys should really lower your expectations, or at least nominate players who are Playmakers, few examples:

@Toon1: 1-van der vaart[hamburg] – never in a million years would he join us (at this moment in time 😉 )
    2-moutinho[portugal u21] – he would be good
    3-toulalan[lyon] – defensive midfielder
4-van bommel[bayern]poss px with emre – defensive midfielder
5-iniesta [barca] – never in a million years

@Mick G : Ribery , come on man do u follow football at all ?

    @Toon 1986: Diego – again – not in a million years.

I wouldn’t even like Deco, if it’s a must there are much better choices out there, just look in the Russian, Spanish (other then big 2-3), maybe even German leagues.

IMO we need not to sign a creative midfielder, i would like a young talented Right Winger.
