Newcastle Linked with Barcelona’s Deco and Belletti

There have been newspaper reports over the weekend linking Barcelona players Deco and Belletti to Newcastle.

Certainly after the dour and lack-luster performance from Newcastle on Saturday, against a good looking Aston Villa side, some creativity is needed in midfield and Deco would help in that area.

Deco – would add some creativity in midfield if rumors are true

The News of the World reported yesterday that we will try to swap Emre for Deco plus £8M but we’re not sure if there’s much truth in that rumor. It certainly doesn’t look a good deal for Newcastle – far too expensive for Deco who turns 30 next Monday.

Juliano Belletti – £2.5M fee and 3 year deal at £40K/week?

But we think there’s much more truth in the rumor linking us with Juliano Belletti.  Diario Sport claims the Brazilian International will join Newcastle within the next 48 hours, for a fee of around £2.5M for the 31 year old. Belletti is said to have agreed a 3 year deal worth £40K per week at Newcastle.

We think that would be a good deal for Newcastle and at a reasonable price for a right-back who has loads of experience at the top – and with Sam’s training methods will be good for a few years yet. Any move that was pending will probably be accelerated this week since it looked like our major defensive weakness on Saturday was at right-back.

Other news is that we will also be signing Abdoulaye Faye for £2M from Bolton early this week as he was again left out of the Bolton side that lost to Portsmouth on Saturday. Belletti and Faye will further strengthen our defense – which got us the point on Saturday.

Once we get these two defenders in we hope Sam will go after a midfield player – it doesn’t have to be Deco and we’re sure Sam has some players earmarked for creativity that could improve that side of our game. We should also remember that both Emre and Barton will provide some level of creativity when they return.

Apart from Riquelme, who are the other creative players that could do a job for us this season?

Comments very welcome.

Riquelme will certainly be an excellent addition to our squad, although others in the team will have to do the donkey work for him.

Belletti would be a good signing in the short term. Not sure about Deco though. Belletti would allow us to bring a younger man in, who can learn from the experience – Sams normal method!!!

The one thing for sure, we deperately need a better RB than the one we have; Which shouldnt prove too difficult!!!!

With all due respect, clubs like NUFC don’t go and ‘offer’ players in return for another at a club of Barcelonas standing. If Barcelona wanted Emre he would already be house hunting in Catalonya by now. Another creative piece of bull by Enid News of the World Blyton.

Deco would be a decent signing but he would have to learn to stay on his feet when an opposing player gets within 2 yards of him or risk being liked less than Diof or Savage by opposing players and fans alike – mind you emre spends most of saturday afternoon on his backside at sjp anyway!

Dont know much about Belleti but my neighbour who’s in a wheelchair has better pace than Carr so this must be a step in the right direction. Problem is i think we’ll have to hang onto Carr as I cant see anyone with any sense going for him anytime soon

I would have Riquelme over Deco, but what about Lulinha? The next big thing in attacking midfielders, with his breathtaking cocktail of flicks and tricks, defence-splitting through-balls and assured finishing, the 17-year-old, who is equally at home in an attacking midfield role or operating as a second forward, is every bit the classic Brazilian No10. With Ronaldinho’s throne his target destination. Sign him NOW before Barca, Real or Milan does.

Hopefully, BSA will bring in three players this week; a RB hopefully Belleti, Faye from Bolton and just maybe a play maker; i.e. what about swapping Luque for Riquelme?

Hopefully, Solano will stay until the January transfer window as he’s good cover as RB and RW, plus we need some one to mentor Enrique over the next 4+ months while he settles in……

Chris – Lulinha looks good – and you’re right – we should sign him up now (this week) we cannot go too far wrong with him.

I believe that Riquelme would be a bad signing… He is a great player and all but he is too slow in the build up and far too weak for English mid players. He will be a great player in italy or Spain but not in England.

Chris – we cannot sign Brazilians under the age of 18, and even then, the likelyhood of them obtaining a work permit is slim to none.

I keep saying Riquelme and I keep will.

    Deco is a another option.

    Then there are;

    Van der Vaart
    For a start…..

    @ Edd Case:
    – Van der Vaart wants to join Valencia but HSV doens’t want to let him go. So no chance at all that he might join us. I think he will stay at HSV.
    – Kallstrom; player of the quality which we already have in midfield. Is a fighter like Butt, but IMO isn’t the creative type we’re looking for.
    – Aquilani; don’t know him, so no comment.
-Cassano; just joined a new team in Italy, so not available and bad attitude, we don’t need him at all.
-Montolivio; plays for Fiorentina but I di’dn’t see him play so again no comment.

@Lamsley Mag; fantastic idea of swapping Luque for Riquelme. What a deal that would be. In preseason I really had a good feeling about Luque but now he is again struggling to become match fit, so let’s get rid of him and hopefully in a good deal which is not that easy after his 2 years at NUFC.

i think 8mil is too steep for deco.
he’s an excellent player but when turning 30, why not make a better investment and, as many of us have already said, try to snap up riquelme.
i dont really mind who we end up with at right back..i dont mean that literally, but pretty much every right back we’ve been linked with has to be superior to oompaloompa. no pace, and stupid tackles in stupid places, aren’t a help to us.

Never been a fan of steve Carr but give the lad a break eh? We do need a right back and certainly sooner rather than later but taking about ‘him being our major defensive weakness’ on saturday is crap. Nobody on the pitch played fantastic other than Milner and possibly N’Zogbia.

I thought Carr was nee worse than the others, and for the first time in ages saw him overlapping the midfield to support an attack. Question Ed- do yous boys watch the match on the telly, or are you at St James park. If the former then I think there is a risk of missing the runs thta some folk do.

As for blaming him for the Bolton goal…..well some people know bugger all about football. Anelkas run was class and he is like a wippet. He would have left behind most defenders in the EPL. Everyone talking about him having no pace costing us. Anelka would have left the likes of Carragher, Woodgate, Vidic etc standing and would have scored regardless.

Certainly not wanting to be the only member of the Stevie Carr fan club, and i will be happy if and when we get in a better player…….but some of you are getting a bit carried away here i reckon looking for a scapegoat.

    Wesley Sjnieder -probs too pricey

Nolan – may now want to leave due to Boltons bad start!

Personally I wouldnt go crazy over riquelme. he’s old and slow and may be pushed around in the prem. Im not saying i dont want him but id prefer the two above

ps sjnieder would also offer huge versitily (rm cm lm CAM)

@CoolDJ – riquelme is not old, he has just turned 29 this summer and is a true class act. He both creates and scores goals. He is a star amoung the argintina team and that says a whole lot.

But if we do but a midfield playmaker what will happen to Barton? Are we going to make him play a holding role – in my opinion we would never see the best of Barton there. We need to let him be our ‘Steven Gerrard’!!

But then again we need depth and if riquelme is available (relations between him and club are not good and Boca want him but can’t afford him) I would love us to buy him.

@cooldj; first of all; 29 years is not old. Come on what are you thinking about. Pure nonsense. Even Deco with 30 isn’t old, he plays very good, is creative, has lots of experience. What dou you people want then?
    1) young players; no because most of you say they are unprooven and sometimes a risk to buy. If they play they will make mistakes and^cost us points.

    2) players with experience; no because most of you say that they are too old and that the money asked is too much for an old guy of 30 years. Look at Maldini; what a class defender and he is already a senior with his 40. Age doesn’t always matters, it is the playing style that you need to look at not the age.

So I say pay for Belletti and try to get Deco. They would both be fanytastic signings ans the other clubs will be jealous for us having those 2 in our rangs. If I have too chose between Deco and Riquelme; I prefer Riquelme because he is a scorserer with the ball. He has the magic in his legs and feet to open a defence like no one else can. Deco is also fantastic but not always that lucky with his actions.

Deco would be an awesome buy. Dont understand why so many og you underrate him so much. He´s one of the best in the world in that position if you ask me. His tecnique and creativity would make him perfect for Newcastle. Better than Riquelme imo because he has more pace. And £8M + Emre would be a fantastic deal for Newcastle. He is not even 30 yet, so he has 3 or 4 very good years in him left!

Belletti and Faye and we have the depth and strengh for this season for the defensive in my opinion. Shorey as a leftback would be nice also to change with Enrique who still is a bit to young to be the only leftback at the club!

Then a Deco typ of player is what we need and the team is good. Realy like Riquelme to, but think Deco would do it better for us sense he has more pace!

Don´t think we are desperete for a deco typ of player, we have Emre, Zog and Barton will do a good job to, but swoop Emre plus cash and get Deco (why would Barca want Emre insteed of Deco?) would be a massiv improvment in cuality!

I´m Swedish and ofcourse I would love to se a swede in the team. We all saw the big days of Andreas Andersson… Källström is a great player, but is no better than what we have at the moment! Will do a good job in spain, but here, he would have the same problem as Deco. Lods of talent, that he cant show in the premier league… He´s good for Lyon now, and was way to good for the swedish Allsvenskan, but in the national team, when it gets a bit hotter, he never delivers the goods. ..

Deco, Faye and Belletti and we have a team good and big enough! Ad Shorey and Pool, man utd and arsenal can only dream of come infront of us in the table 😉

For creativity and world class deadball taker, I still think Nakamura of Celtic is the best option. Remember his two freekick goals against ManU in the Champions League??? Absolutely amazing and pin-point accurate!!!!

Watched him play for Celtic and on Youtube. Not only is he one of the best in the world with deadballs but he can pass, dribble and score plenty of goals from midfield.

With his contract soon coming to an end at Celtic, I think BSA should definitely take notice!!!

Riquelme too slow, Deco too old – plus that we shouldn’t have too many unwanted players from Barca, i.e. why can’t we get some players on the up? Alexis Sanchez from Chile looks a promising prospect, Freddy Adu may be worth a try if for 3.5M (reportedly what Inter once offered in the summer?) – both just had an excellent U20 tournament. If we have to look for some experienced flair I prefer Pablo Aimar – certainly younger and one of most skilful playmakers in the world. he may be available for cheaper than 8M (as he joined Zaragoza for 6M last summer?), plus that Emre, who is reportedly eager to show what he can do for Big Sam, is worth at least 7M for me.

Alexis Sanchez has already moved and tbf on him, hes nothing special. Freddy Adu has just moved and Aimar is only 1.5 years off Deco. Keep Emre, Barton and Zog, we dont need a creative midfielder.
