Newcastle’s Latest Transfer Moves

Here’s what we believe to be the situation in the transfer market for Newcastle, as this transfer window now has a week to run.

Things certainly seem to be petering out and it appears that we will not be getting a new right back into the club so if that is the case we hope Nobby Solano stays, at least through January.

So far Sam says there have been no offers come in for the Peruvian International, who is well liked at the club.

Sam Allardyce – business almost finished in the transfer market?

Abdoulaye Faye

We are still after Bolton’s Abdoulaye Faye but that deal is not looking too good and it would appear that if we cannot agree a deal with Bolton Wanderers by tomorrow and Faye plays for Bolton the deal will be difficult to complete. Sammy Lee, who has left Faye out of the last two games has said he will include Faye in the squad for their crucial home game against Reading at the Reebok tomorrow. The transfer fee is quoted at around ₤2M and Fay’s wages are said to be ₤30K/week. We believe if we are to do a deal then it has to come before tomorrow’s game, otherwise things will become very difficult.

Albert Luque

We are trying to offload Albert Luque to Ajax. The Dutch club are said to have sent a delegation to Newcastle to try to complete a deal. This may be initially a loan deal or even a straight transfer but the big barrier to any deal is Luque’s wage demands. We think these are around ₤60K/week and we still think a deal may be difficult to close. We hope for the sake of both the player and the club a deal can be struck. That;’s a lot of wages to be playing a fringe player at the club and will significantly reduce the wage bill at Newcastle. Good business if we can do some deal to move Luque on and in that case maybe Sam could bring another player in. Don’t know but that’s possible from a business viewpoint.

Juliano Belletti

The proposed transfer of Juliano Belletti must have been a dream because Chelsea stepped in on Wednesday and completed the deal within 24 hours for around ₤4M. We expect Belletti wanted European Champions league football and he certainly cannot be blamed for that. But in any case that was a transfer we had hoped would come through but it didn’t happen for whatever reason. Sam has still not signed a right back and the news is that if he can get Faye to the club that will probably be the end of his transfer business for this window.

Nobby Solano

Sam has indicated today that there have been no offers for Nobby Solano and if nothing transpires then Nobby will stay at the club. From the comments we’ve had on this site lots of supporters would like to see the great man stay. He is one of our most popular players ever, and there’s no doubt Nobby has served Newcastle extremely well in his time here.

We still hope we can capture Faye and one more player and it’s fine with us if that other player is a defender and a right back at that.

Comments are very welcome – who do you think we still need?

Major priority has to be right back,we can not afford to wait till January…….Carr & Solano are not quick enough to cope with the pace these days…any quick winger will have either of them for breakfast……Every team will see our right hand side as a weakness and target that every game….Only other option is playing 3 at the back in Taylor Cacapa & Rozehnal….then playing Enrique on the left or Nzogbia and Geremi on the right as sort of wing backs….I guess we’ll see what happens this week.

Faye would be good cover at centre back or defensive midfield but a specialist right back would really give the defense a more solid look and feel. Carr, Nobby and others could provide cover if necesssary but probably more than any other part of the team, if the back four can be settled then we will see the benefit. That’s why I would much rather have a specialist than a “make-do” right back however well intentioned (Nobby) or a “veteran” (Carr).

Also, would love Nobby to stay but only if he is happy. Would be a shame if he became miserable at SJP after all these years.

Shame we are running out of targets for RB and CB, as I feel we need at least one more in each position to be comfortable up to Christmas.

But with Geremi, Carr and Solano we do have reasonable cover in the RB position (although a quality specialist would be nice) and if we have to go forward with Rozenhal, Taylor and Cacapa at CB (with Ramage for cover), it’s still a lot better than we had before.

We are a bit light at LB as well, although if Enrique works out then we should be OK using N’Zogbia as cover in that role and Baba if things get really desperate. But N’Zogbia will not be happy playing there long term and we will still need to look for quality cover in January at LB.

BSA should look at Odiah for RB, he seems the perfect solution from what iv’ve read seen and heard and he is also mates with Oba.

Ive jsut heard from someone on this forum we are looking to sign Gaby Mudingayi. I’d much rather have Mudingayi than Faye or Diop so i hope there is some truth in that, but we do need a RB desperately.

Could we still play Geremi at right-back? Ir seems that Sam bought him for mf but he’ll srill be a strong r-b, especially if most of our mf is fit…Emre, Barton, Butt, Smith etc. Taylor can also play rb, and I prefer Ramage too to Carr. There are options!

I have just read a comment on Sporting Life saying Man City and ourselves are monitoring the Deco situation closely today. Additionally the proposed Riquelme transfer has broken down with a fee of EUR 17.5m not being met by Boca Juniors. So Deco for £6m, Riquelme £11.8m. Are these good options, I would think so.

Id rather have Deco than Riquelme at whatever price. Riquelme is such a moody bugger and so inconsistent, he has a very bad attitude, the team has to revolve around him for him to be happy.

Cant understand why quite alot of our transfer dealings are taking ages to go through.Rozer deal took ages ,barton deal did also. The faye deal is taking the mick ,lets just get him in if we want him ,it looks like he wants to come so whats the bloody problem!!We have been in 4 him for the best part of a fortnight maybe longer ,if bolton are making it difficult ,we should have forgot it and moved on ages ago.

No transfers, is that good or bad?
On the good side Anus Oliver and his fellow anus spewing chums have nothing to say or call any player. Plus they are leaving NUFC alone and not able to say that so and so is going here there and everywhere and this manager is after X Y Z
If SA is not too bothered nor am i because at the end of the day, we are in better condition than we were last season, and that is progress.

Just to let you all know Faye HAS been entered into the Bolton squad for tomorrows game, so it seems Big Sam has missed out again, unless of course the deal could be rectified at a later date (within this week of course)

I’d love to get a decent RB and Deco, our team would be outstanding then. Realistically, I think we’ll get one more signing only – Faye on 31st August. We’ll do ok ’til Christmas, then we’ll have to buy a couple more in the window. I reckon a we’ll have a strong finish to the season, but if we do qualify for Europe it’ll be by the skin of our teeth. I’d still be chuffed even if we miss out on Europe again, but are challenging for the places. I think a 7th place finish is realistic, but anywhere between 5th and 9th is posible. 10th place I’d be a bit peeved at, but as long as we’re not in the bottom half I’ll be happy.

realistically imo we still need two players to be competing for a top 6 finish comfortably.

    rb/creative mf.

with teams like citeh/west ham spending we need to quietly find two quality additions as really i dont see too much difference in terms of quality at nufc compared to everton/spurs and then blackburn have a settled team (we deg have some of the most taelnted players, but our weak link players are we we get let down and lack of options). and citeh do look good for an outside shot at the top 6/7.

we cant afford to miss out on europe this season, as then next season it will be even harder to sign any top quality players, whe we are competing with sides like everton etc who could be in europe.

in a couple of years our big stadium wont count for much fincially, with everton/pompey/pos spurs getting new grounds, its only going to get harder to finish high up the table.

thats why we need to get our foot in the door now or be prepared for the possiblity of no europe for years.

villa showed how a half decent mid table at best outfit can stop us winning, makes you wonder when there are at least 4/5 teams better than villa pushing for uefa spots how we will fair this season without adding the players we need.

hope the talk of inter going for ballack gives us a sniff of geting deco, but probably just means deco will to chelski.

buying in the jan window this year will be the biggest farce ever, imagine, nufc, spurs, everton, blackburn, west ham, villa, man city, pompey could all be with a chance of uefa, the prices will go through the roof and the players will go to the highest bidder. i wouldt put it past whu/citeh to buy players to stop clubs like us getting them in january if they know we wont pay big prices.

Id fancy seeing Cacapa get a game at center half with Rozehnal. Rozehnal has looked very good so far and Cacapa has a very good CV however this would mean leaving out Taylor who in most fans minds should start.
Problem solved if Taylor plays at right back. Taylor has done quite well there when asked to play at full back in the past and I reckon a back four of Taylor, Cacapa, Rozehnal and Enrique looks and sounds an attractive proposition.

On tribal football we have bene linked with Mudingayi and Luccin.

Luccin is a good player but just a cm, he has a brialliant long shot and he can do everything else well but not well enough in the passing department we are looking for.

Mudingayi is a very strong Defensive midfielder and i would have him over Diop or Faye any day of the week, and no african nations cup absecences. He could play at RB and maybe CB if needs be. He is a good player.

These are unlikely to materialise as the source is

Pompey are moving for Dudu who is a good cm, he could be a possibility for us, he isnt such a playmaker but can pass quite well. He is a box-to-box player.

Well Mr. Mourinho has said he is prepared to let one his RBs leave the club now that he has more than 2 at that position. He is keeping Fererra and Belletti (obviously) so that makes G. Johnson and L. Diarra available (def the prior hopefully that later)

So yes you guessed it, another call to get Diarra, aka Mini Makalele, in. Play him at RB and be prepared for him to take over for Butt in DM. Also a mate of Zog from Le Harve. 5m is a snip!

Rather have Mudingayi in the same positions.

Im starting to dislike Faye and Diop rumours as i dont think they will be a very good editions. They will be squad players, after seeing Mudingayi play i believe he could overtake Carr at RB and Butt at DM and he can even fill in CB.

    Danger Mouse

    i agree with you
Diarra well be agood sign he is young and he can play very will in RB
    we need agood DM
and i think geremi is not good enough in DM he is a winger not DM !!

and SM want to sign faye to use him in DM
and he don’t want to sign a RB because we have geremi and carr as backup

so we need a big strong DM like faye , diop , mudingayi , appiah

our best line up will be like that in my opinion of course

    ——– ———————–givn ————————–

    geremi ———- tylor ——- roz ————– enreque

Ashton…..ever heard of width? How are we supposed to stretch another team if all our mids are within ten feet of each other? If we cant find a place for Milner on the team we dont deserve to keep him. Geremi to right back when Barton is fit. Emre and Smith will interchange. Zog will get more games when we are away and fill the midfield with just two strikers at top.

Short of signing a specialist right back. I’d expect to see until January a first pick of

    Taylor (RB)
    Cacapa (CH)
    Rozenhal (CH)
    Enrique (LB)

Then if due to for or fitness we need Taylor at CH we put Geremi in at right back. No need to let Carr get his shirt dirty unless in emergencies and then have another go at putting it right in January
