Allardyce After a New Right Back

Stephen Carr has hamstring problems again and Peter Ramage may have damaged his knee ligaments in yesterday’s disappointing draw with Middlesbrough at the Riverside stadium.

After the game Big Sam pointed out he is now short in the right-back position, having lost of the players who can play there in one game, and may have to bring in someone before the end of the transfer window on Friday.

Mike Ashley attended his first Newcastle game in person wearing a Newcastle United shirt.

Owner Mike Ashley – seemed to enjoy the game – if not the result

The Middlesbrough game is a game Newcastle should have taken all 3 points. They were twice ahead, the second time being only 13 minutes from time, but in both cases they couldn’t maintain their lead. Add to that the fact we lost two right-backs in one game and Big Sam was rather a worried man after the game.

After the game Allardyce said:

“That, on top of not winning today, makes me feel like we have lost rather than drawn.”

“We will have to deal with those injury situations tomorrow and see whether that takes us into the market on a more ferocious basis this week, which it might have to.”

“I am well short now defensively, which is where my biggest problems have lain all summer.”

“They are back there again now because of two injuries. It is typical, you always seem to get injuries where you are short.”

“We are short in that area and we picked up not just one, but two injuries, and certainly one looks quite serious.”

“With the window shutting, we will have to have a good look around and see how we go on.”

Big Sam was justifiably unhappy with his side’s defending, but we think that will improve as the season goes on. But it certainly wasn’t a typical performance from an Allardyce team by twice yielding the lead they had taken away from home.

Sam is also not disturbed by buy out claims of the club – that seem to hit the newspapers almost every day.

Sam said:

“I have got no problems. We are moving the club forward as quickly as we can – not quick enough for me, but I am always the most impatient one at the football club anyway.”

“But we are moving forward in every department.”

“The more success you bring, the more your new owner gets hooked; the more your new owner gets hooked, the better it is for us all.”

So we’ll look for Big Sam to make a move for a right-back in the next four days. We believe that Abdoulaye Faye will also join the defensive ranks. We know that Chelsea have a couple of right backs who seem to be quality in Glen Johnson and Lassana Diarra – but we’ll need to see how much the London club wants for them. Sam may also have other targets he has already researched.

Lots of fans have been wanting another right-back brought into the club so fate may have played a role here. We have to remember that Stephen Carr has had multiple hamstring problems in his time at Newcastle. Peter Ramage’s knee injury looked bad – and it’s very unfortunate for the boy from Ashington.

Comments welcome.

Who are our potential right backs? We have a good relationshop with Chelsea but dont want another babyaro. I’d like to see
    New RB Capaca/Taylor Rozenhal Enrique
    Milner Barton/Geremi Butt/Emre Zog/Duff
    Martins/Owen Viduka/Smith

as much as i hate to see our boys go down with injuries. this may have spurred the club into action to repair our constant RB problem. speedy recovery to both carr and peter. now let’s get someone with class in to replace them.

All in All – a pretty grim day for the Toon. Defence played just like they did under Roeder. Is there something in the water????? Please, stop issuing “Memory Loss” pills to defenders.

You people should quit chanting Stephen Taylor for centre back! He is clearly not ready to play week in week out in that position. If it was Cacapa or Rozenhal with Mido for Mido’s goal, that ball would not have gone in the back of the net. If he has to play stick taylor at right back and leave Cacapa and Rozenhal at centre back. They are clearly better defenders.

Good point Jerry….while Taylor has great potential, he is still prone to the odd gaff….he’s still young and the odd game on the bench would do no harm and would “focus the mind,” he’s had loads of publicity lately and a break could do him good. I’d like to see Cacapa getting more pitch time as he certainly does not fall into the “one for the future catergory”
Hopefully a decent RB will be arriving in the next couple of days………..

I’d just like to point out that Glenn Johnson is a bit crap and not worth signing, as he couldn’t even secure a permenant move to Portsmouth.

We need further defenders plus a RB.

Hopefully we’ll land both Faye and Johnson/Diarra this week, and maybe Diop to cover midfield!

Diarra is more versatile but Johnson is a RB and that’s we really need. There’s lots of talk of Johnson being defensively not good enough so let’s see what BSA thinks, as we need to strengthen the defense this week.

Oh, for a Micah Richards type protege to appear from the Youth team this season! Could it be either Huntington or Edgar as we know they are not LBs

taylor has been poor the last two games for me ,but cacapa looked pretty rock solid didnt he? i think he’s just what we need to pair along side roz .
with tayls i think its to much to fast , all this hype is getting to me never mind the young lad .
hate to say it , but thank god carr and ramage went down and were now forced to replace them , it looked for a second like we were not going to .
and the sooner this enrique can be brought into the squad the better , if our only decent chances are going to come from zoggy , then we need the lad in midfield .

P.S hate this 433 system with our 3 boring midfielders , they play to similar for my liking , hows that work out anyway with smith being a striker? , surely he should be attacking more from midfield than he is , hardly heard his name on sunday apart from when he was going in for pointless tackles or arguing with the ref . lets see what barton and emre can bring , then if not we need a new ginola !!!

i agree Taylor should be benched for his past two performances, Capaca looked great when he came on.

we dont have the players for the 4-3-3 system at the mo, i feel we are far too lop sided in the fact that we rely on Milner to provide the fire from which ever wing he is playing on, i reckon once we have Enrique at LB and Zog can go LW then we will do alot better because at the moment when we play Zog LB we only have 1 out and out winger and thats Milner and as the Boro & Villa illustarted when they cover Milner with 2 players then we have no fire power.

also the biggest problem with the 4-3-3 is playing Oba on the wide right/left we need someone like Duff or Gudjonsen or Diouf to to be playing their, Oba should be in the middle.

any news on Nobby? hes still a toon player isnt he?

    progress none the less.

Why has taken until Carr got injured to realise we need to strengthen the right back position?Everyone knew it before Sam came in..Now what it will do is push newcastle into panick buying, something Sam said he wouldnt do…At this point of the season all decent players have been snapped up……..So we either get crap players in who no one wants or we get over priced players in…Its the same old story with the toon,Here we go again saying when everyone is fit we’ll be better this and that…Well I hope So…..One thing we must remember though,we are still unbeaten and apart from first half at bolton we havent really played that well,so looking at the bigger picture things dont look as bad as they may seem ….Howay the lads

While its a bit harsh I have to agree we did not “lose 2 RB’s” on Sunday. We never had any. If it means we get a proper RB then bad news for the individuals is good news for the team. I am not so worried about doing a deal late on. You just need to be prepared for the last minute scramble and don’t panic. We can play Taylor at RB, he would learn a lot from Roz and Cacapa in particular.

Yeah, the Mido goal was off side…
..but had Tayls held the line like the rest of the defence (the other three held a perfect line), even a blind linesman would have seen it 😐

If you add the off side goal to the refs failure to give Milner the penalty he should have had when he was pulled down we was robbed by the refs 🙁

    We should have won 3-1….

we should go for glen johnson..he’s a expirenced premiership defender who will not need time to adapt…he’s english and at a good age for the club and he will be looking to move to the toon should we make a aproach

Finally I hear others saying Cacapa needs to play. He is just pure quality and way better than Taylor. The first goal wight have been offside but it was very poor defending by Taylor; he took the wrong side of Mido and he was also the case that the linesman didn’t flag for offside because he was positioned behind the defence and lat’s be honnest it was a very close call. So Cacapa as a starter and Taylor as a sub. Plus get a RB before the end of the week pls!!!

Dingo – Alves is still available and signing him would eclipse Shearer coming home.

What about Diego of Werder Bremen for midfield whilst we are at it.
