Final Reflections on the Newcastle Barnsley Game

Newcastle showed they are becoming an integrated squad because with so many changes from Sunday the players were still able to put in a good performance and get the job done. That will show Sam that things are starting to work.

Claudio Cacapa – excellent game at the back in his first start

  • Best player in the first half was Claudio Cacapa who looked so comfortable at the back and read the game superbly. He will be a vital player for Newcastle this season and since he cannot play full back is expected to make the starting eleven on Saturday against Wigan Athletic where a clean sheet will again be vital.
  • Jose Enrique looked what he is – a very good player in the making but it will still take a few games to get him fully match fit. There’s no rush to bring Jose in as we have N’Zogbia doing a good job at left back.
  • Talking about that man Charles – he had another excellent game and has been a revelation this season. We cannot wait to see a 4-4-2 formation with Milner and N’Zogbia on the wings. There’ll certainly be lots of danger there for the opposing teams. Charles has done very well and apparently credit for this goes to captain Geremi who has taken the young Frenchman under his wing – good for him.
  • Michael Owen scored his first goal for 20 months for Newcastle in a competitive game and he is slowly returning to fitness. We have two of the best small strikers in the game in Martins and Owen – and we need to use them wisely this season since both of them can do a job for Newcastle. When Owen was replaced by Oba – Martins scored within 4 minutes just to show he’s still in the picture – that’s just great for the team.
  • Nobby Solano, footballer supreme, was steady and classy at right back. He’s one of our most creative players and showed that last night with one or two great touches. Nobby also had a shot just wide. It would appear that Nobby will be staying at Newcastle at least until January. We hope his family situation can be worked out without him having to leave the club.
  • Shola Ameobi put a great ball through for Owen’s goal and we shouldn’t forget about him. We still think he can do a good job at Newcastle this season – but he needs games. He also needs goals to force his way into the first team.
  • If we can build on this with 3 points on Saturday against Wigan, and we can get Faye and Beye into the club by Friday – things will be buzzing in the town again.

Comments very welcome.

Professional performance last night and another clean sheet! Good to see other players back in the black and white shirts too. Beye and Faye will be great signings. Does anyone think these transfers have had influence on one another hence delays? Afterall both players are from Senegal? Perhaps this is why the Beye transfer is back on…….

Tom – I’m looking for any videos of the goals but none so far – the game wasn’t televised at all either in the UK or elsewhere around the world from what we can tell. We’ll keep searching though.

Tony – don’t think so – Faye has been negotiating for quite a while – as you know. Think the delay was Bolton didn’t really want to lose him.
How Sam has almost got Beye is amazing – he is just so good at attracting players. We should have a great defense because some very good players are going to be on the bench – he can only play 4 at the back and can choose from Taylor, Cacapa, Rozehnal, Faye, Beye and Enrique. Best of luck Sam – but great problem to have.

Emre was ineffective along with Smith. Sam has some great selection problems coming up. Never mind our bench, several big names will often not even make the sixteen. There is a really good feeling building despite actual performances not being great, but that will come. I have absolute faith in Sam. Look how long we have laboured with a notoriously crap defence with previous managers only able to bring in donkeys like Bramble, Boumsong, Griffin, Moore, Onyewu, O’Brien, Dabizas etc.
Some of them were very pricey but look at the apparent ease and at very little cost with which Sam has brought in Rozehnal, Cacapa, Enrique, Geremi with Faye and Beye coming hopefully.
    Yes things are looking up!

Got to http://www.teamtalk.com and keep an eye on the screen on the right hand side, its showing the goals from different games, u may have to have the screen open for a few mins before newcastle are shown.

Anyone know if Emre got injured again last night, i heard he did?

What happened to newcastle signing an expensive creative midfielder, im disappointed we havent to be honest, would have been a nice way to round off a great busy transfer window.

Hope Solano stays as he’s a good professional.

A 2-0 win with a changed team was a good result and bodes well for the future.

Looking forward to seeing Barton in a black and white shirt as he kept Man City in Premier for last few seasons and could be inspirational for Newcastle!

Everyone shouting about seeing the goals there are two things you can do…

    1) if you live within travelling distance GO TO THE GAME!

    or

    2) sign up for the Newcastle World service on http://www.nufc.co.uk , it only costs £17.99 for the whole SEASON. That works out at less than 50p a week, cheaper than a loaf of bread. Your money goes directly to the club and you get match highlights from everygame along with player interviews, reserve matches etc during the week.

It is well worth the money, even if you do go to the games.
