Newcastle United central defender Paul Huntington has joined Leeds United for an undisclosed fee. That’s the surprising news this evening.
Paul has not been sent out on loan but has left the club. This is breaking news from the official Leeds United web site so we feel it has to be official.
No confirmation yet on the official Newcastle United site, although we expect all Newcastle’s transfer dealings today to be released in a single communication from the club later tonight.
Paul Huntington – surprisingly sold to Leeds United
19 year-old Carlisle-born Paul Huntington, who turns 20 in September played 11 times for Newcastle United and scored one goal. Paul, who won the Jackie Milburn Trophy in the summer of 2005, an award given to the most promising young players in the north east, made his Newcastle debut last season and scored his only goal for the club against Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Highly-rated Paul started out with Newcastle United’s Academy – he joined up with the first team squad for their EUFA cup matches in 2005 – and has represented England at under-18 level.
This was completely unexpected since Paul seemed to have a future on Tyne-side, and we were assuming he would be sent out on loan this season. Leeds are also struggling at the moment so even the club he has moved to is not in the best of shape. Leeds are bottom of League One with -6 points.
This seems extremely strange to us and we can only assume that Big Sam didn’t rate young Huntington.
We are also waiting for confirmation from Newcastle on the transfers that may have been completed tonight – no news yet and under 4 hours to go to the transfer deadline.

Comment #361Really sad to see Huntington go. At only 19 I think he has potential and a loan deal would have been better all round. However, BSA knows his squad and only last week, sellected Edgar ahead of Huntington for teh Barnsley game…..
Paul is certainly not a LB but neither is Taylor, Carr, Ramage and Edgar.
Good luck Paul and thanks for your committment to Newcastle United!

Comment #362I really feel for you guys…i know what its like to have your youngsters sold or bought (As a leeds fan). Weve had Chelsea and Spurs camped in our youth academy poaching leeds kids for the last two years. Its incredibly disheartening to watch talented kids go to a club like chealsea where they will likely just sit on the bench, lose form, fitness and eventually dissapear from the game. Id advise any kid that they are better off being at a club where they can actually play rather than earn stupid money.
Someone slammed Smith in the same sentance as Viduka on here….. As a leeds fan i can tell you Smith is one of the few players n the game currently that earns his pay. He busted his balls for Leeds in their relegation fight. But hes not all blood and guts he has sweet touch and is a big match player. Id have him back at Leeds any day. But Newcastle is the next best thing. Good luck lads

Comment #364Shaun Dean, Ive been tracking Taylor since he was 15, and I believe he is going to be a great player, if he cuts out the idoit in him we sometimes see (stupid and blatant fouls, hes not exactly mr. incon f*&^*n spicuous) Nzogbia is a maybe, if he had a better delivery he would be a good winger. ATM he just puts his head down and runs. Headless Chicken style. Ramage is donkey, f*&^&g hopeless, same with shola. Huntington was too bothered about his hair getting messed up, and seemed a bit of a ponce. Edgar should be loaned out, Carroll seems a good target man, due to his height and awareness. Anyway enough of that.
Given
Beye, Cacapa, Rozey, Enrique
Geremi, Barton, Smith
Owen Viduka Martins
decent 4-3-3.
swap Viduka for Duff, Zog or Milner, then its a good4-4-2. Competetion for places!!!! and tactics!!!! get in!!!
