Newcastle vs Wigan Preview – Newcastle Win

The next 48 hours is important for Newcastle United. First of all we’d like to see Abdoulaye Faye and Habib Beye sign for the club and then tomorrow we need all 3 points from the Wigan Athletic game and hopefully a clean sheet.

Wigan have made a good start under new manager Chris Hutchins and are 3rd top of the league with 7 points from their first 4 games. Top scorer is one Antoine Sibierski, an admitted Newcastle supporter, who had an excellent season with us last year.

Claudio Cacapa – expected to start tomorrow after great performance on Wednesday

Antoine Sibierski is touch and go for the game but we’re sure he’ll get a great reception from the crowd if he is able to play tomorrow – he’s an extremely popular player and person on Tyne-side. We’ve never known a more upbeat player and it’s a pity we didn’t keep him, although he would have struggled for games this year. Antoine is joint top scorer in the Premiership with 3 goals.

One interesting aspect for tomorrow is who will make the starting eleven for Newcastle. With both Michael Owen and Oba Martins scoring on Wednesday night, they are both starting to hit their top form. We still think Oba will start and will be ready to go after his fantastic goal on Wednesday night against Barnsley.

With Carr out injured we think right back will be taken by either Solano, who played well there on Wednesday, or Steven Taylor. We expect Cacapa, who played very well on Wednesday to partner Rozehnal in central defense, with Charles N’Zogbia again slotting in at left-back.

Ir’s a toss up as to who starts in goal but we would expect Stephen Harper to keep his place after playing extremely well for the club this season. We expect Viduka to partner Oba up front so we expect the starting eleven to be:

Harper
Taylor Rozehnal Cacapa N’Zogbia
Smith Butt Geremi
Milner Viduka Martins

Subs: Given Edgar Owen Ameobi Enrique

We expect a 4-3-3 formation but when Enrique is ready to fit in at left back we’d like to see a 4-4-2 formation with Milner and N’Zogbia on the wings. Both youngsters are in great form this season with N’Zogbia looking unbelievable, wherever he plays.

Competition for places is heating up which is always the sign of a strong squad and that will heat up even more with the acquisition of Faye and Beye today. For Wigan Athletic, Antoine is doubtful with a hamstring injury but we expect Titus Bramble to be in the side. It will be interesting to see how Viduka and Martins match up against the former Newcastle center-back. Fans will be hoping for a mistake from Titus tomorrow – let’s be truthful 😀

We expect a 2-0 win – but a win and a clean sheet have to be the priorities. Our next game is Monday 17th September at Derby so a win tomorrow will keep us all happy until then.

I will be glad when the transfer window closes because at that point big sam will then know who exactly what formations and personnel he has to deal with.As regards tomorrows match i d’ont think Wigan are going to be any pushover but we must get three points and i would agree with the team selection above for to start anyway.

Ed, I think you’ve got the team spot on, although Given may replace Harper!

    A win and a clean sheet is what’s required…….

Why not Milner, Martin and Owen up front? With a defence like Wigan’s we could have a field day.

We need to win tommorow to stay at the pace with the top 7 are gaining points, espcially with teams like wigan, derby, west ham, and man city (joey barton should be back for west ham and man city games) we should be picking up 3 points from them, as these are the next few games with set up for what kind on season we are going to have, we need a more creativeness from the midfield, the team i’d have picked would be
harper (who has been as good as any english goalkeeper this season)
taylor rb, cacapa and rozenhal cb, and enrique lb,
geremi butt millner for the midfield
and up front zogbia smith martins ,

i think we wil get the best from zogy and martins running and feeding of smith and give us the creativness we need

(viduka needs a rest and from the villa and boro game didnt do enough for me)

so i can see us picking up a good four wins in the league ( i’d take 2 wins and 2 draws ) if we stop conceding sloppy goals and be a little more adventrous.

what do you guys think ?

we need to pick up the 3 points and as many wins as we can from the first 10 matches to get us really going and before we play the top teams.dont agree with the team, butt geremi and smith in midfield not good enough, too similar to each other, have created very little in games and martins not a winger.its good we look solid in the team but can play 2 defensive midfielders not 3 and get a bit of creativity in there, still have duff and barton to come back so team looks good for the future, can play geremi at right back and free up a midfield role.be interesting when we have all players back who will play and what foremation, when we do id like to see a 4-4-2, given
    enrique/tayor,cacapa/rozenall/beye,geremi
    milner/barton/butt/nzogbia,duff
    viduka/martins,owen

We need to drop Viduka for one game and see what happens. Could have a Smith/Owen/Milner up front, and use a Martins as the creative midfilder in the center. In our current situation, this is the team I had pick.
    Given,
    Solano/Taylor/Rozenhal/Nzogbia
    Geremi/Butt/Martins
    Milner/Owen/Smith

    Given
    Solano Rozehnal Cacapa Enrique
    Milner Butt Geremi Zogbia
    Viduka Martins

i dont see why we would rest Given, hes been called up to the internationals next week and he played against Burnely so why would we rest him? i dont understand the fuzzy logic their.

regards to Enrique, he MUST play a part tommorow, weve starting to get him into the squad, Sam has to take the plunge sometime he cant wait for ever.

i think Sam knows the 4-3-3 isnt that sucessfull, so i reckon hell start with a 4-4-2.

Bob – it may take a little time – but it’ll work once you download everything – make sure you install the player and I think there’s another 2 ways to play it – for safety just install the whole deal – that’s what I had to do to get it all working.
    Thanks for the link

Look like it will only play with TVANTS – that needs to be downloaded. The link is on the left of what you sent me.m It’ll take 45 mins to download with broadband 🙁
