Nobby Solano Joins West Ham

11:57 pm, Friday, August 31st, 2007 by Ed Harrison · 72 Comments

News has come through, with just 15 minutes to go to the transfer deadline, that Nobby Solano has indeed left Newcastle United for West Ham United.

The agreement that Sam Allardyce had made with Nobby was that Solano could go as long as Newcastle bring in both Abdoulaye Faye of Bolton and Habib Beye of Marseilles.

We have to assume Big Sam is confident that these deals will go through to give the go ahead to Nobby. At the time of writing nothing on these two deals have been announced by Newcastle

The Great Nobby Solanoleaves Newcastle for West Ham for personal reasons

Nobby was signed by Kenny Dalglish 10 years ago and apart from 18 months at Aston Villa he has been at the club ever since. He is the best South American ever to play for the club and has been a huge favorite with the fans. This is not only because of his great skillful play but he has also given everything for the club. He was truly dedicated to Newcastle and always gave us 100% effort. Nobby played around 250 times for Newcastle and scored 48 goals – he is also a noted and loud trumpet player as West Ham players will soon find out  😀

Nobby is the second player to leave Newcastle tonight because 19 year-old Paul Huntington was surprisingly sold to Leeds United earlier this evening.

We are so sorry to see Nobby finally leave the club, but we wish him the very best at West Ham and we hope this helps him with his personal situation. Our loss is West Ham’s gain as he is still an excellent player and fitter than he’s ever been. Nobby has played great football for Newcastle this season and was very solid at right-back on Wednesday night against Barnsley – his last game for the club 🙁

Nobby – it’s been a great ride for 10 years – thanks.

Comments welcome.

  • 5 Bev // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:12 AM

omg, i cant cope anymore, why are sky sports talking about every other player or club but ours????

  • 6 Greg B // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:12 AM

Well said Ed, great player, nice bloke (bumped into him about 12 months back and he was a real gent, had my Mrs. in tears laughing) and I am sad to see him go.

I (and I am sure the majority of Toon fans) wish him all the best but obviously not against us!!

Just hope we have tied up Baye for the right back slot now Carr is out injured.

  • 7 Nicci // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:13 AM

This is a SAD SAD DAY. A huge loss to Newcastle and i wish him luck.

  • 8 Barry Bumhead // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:13 AM

Huntington and Solano out and nobody in? Surely not….. (written a 0.15am)

Wots going on , are the Toon playing games here or what?

  • 9 mac // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:13 AM

Good luck Nobby. A tue Gent and an awsome player. Good luck in your personnel life

  • 10 wazLuque // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:13 AM

Remember we didn’t have confirmation of signing Sibierski ’til the morning of the next day. So we can live in hope…

It is worrying if we haven’t tied up those deals before the window closed though, it leaves us short at the back without a fit right-back in our squad with Carr and Ramage out with injuries and having just sold Solano and Huntington…

  • 11 Anth // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:14 AM

the only thing i can think of is that either we aint signed them or they busy taking photos for the nufc website ?, or both have had work permits denied

  • 12 Anth // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:15 AM

just herd that the solano deal was done at 11:45, and annouced 11:58 to im waiting ti 12 20 then i feel we aint signed them

  • 13 Howie // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:16 AM

every1 stop worrying. they have both joined. as long as they confirmed it to the premier league before 12 is all that matters, not sky sports. we may have to wait an hour or 2 before an announcement

  • 14 Neyl // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:16 AM

Super player – one for Newcastle’s hall of fame in my view. Sad to see him go but wish him the very best for the future.

  • 15 mac // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:17 AM

I wanna go to bed but i’m gonna crack open another can and keep on hopin

  • 16 Davey // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:17 AM

signings can be completed and that club can choose not to let the media know as long as the paper work is completed before the deadline its fine… lets hope so eh!!

  • 17 Paul // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:18 AM

This is the ONLY signing i am gutted about. I will Miss nobby a lot. Why should a poor side like WH have one of the greatest prem players of all time??? We will miss you nobby

  • 18 Owen // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:18 AM

Best of luck to Nobby, he was a black and white legend.

Guess we’ll find out in the morning but I sure hope the replacements are in…..

  • 19 Nicci // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:19 AM

Don’t be negative anth, I’m sure you know big Sam better than that

  • 20 Sandman // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:20 AM,,10278~1103820,00.html

    Bye Nobby.

  • 21 mac // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:21 AM

If I refresh on Sky sports once more and see Gary O’neils face i may cry.
Should i open another can or just go to bed???

  • 22 Midjew // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:22 AM,,10278~1103821,00.html

    Its officail Faye has signed!

  • 23 Jamie Stanton // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:22 AM

There’s no way on this earth that BS would let nobby go without players in. This way of business is what should have already been happening for years instead of FAT FREDDIES “public circus”

I’d be lying if I said that i’m 100% comfortable but we gotta trust BS even tho as toon fans we’re not that used to it 🙂

  • 24 DC // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:22 AM

  • 49 Rich // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:26 AM

    Marseille Skipper Completes Toon Move

MARSEILLE defender Habib Beye has completed his switch to Newcastle United.

The 29-year-old Senegal star has signed a three-year deal with the Magpies.

Beye, who can operate as a right-back or centre-back, was skipper of the French club having joined from Strasbourg in 2003.

He featured in both legs of Marseille’s UEFA Cup semi-final victory over United in 2004 but was on the losing side in the final against Valencia.

  • 62 Greg B // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:33 AM

Great stuff, only troubleing thing is Solano reported as FREE TRANSFER. Could we not get owt for Nobby or was it our generosity seeing as Dyer goosed now for several months?

  • 63 Jamie Stanton // Sep 1, 2007 at 12:34 AM

  • 65 Rave // Sep 1, 2007 at 1:16 AM

    should keep Solano
he is better than Carr from my point of view!

    Beye and Faye signed!
    great News!

  • 66 Al Robson // Sep 1, 2007 at 1:55 AM

i’m glad we have signed faye and beye, surley going to help us defensivley throughout the season and for the next few years. but i cant help but feel worse for losin nobby.. not sayin id rather have him than those two, but he was a real part of newcastle, he knows he’s a geordie at heart. best of luck to him, and i hope he gets granted a testimonial when he retires.

  • 67 stk // Sep 1, 2007 at 4:06 AM

good transfers in, no more carr, thank christ.

nobby, what a true legend, meake sure to chant his name when west ham return next to St James.

huntington, on his debut, marked robben off the pitch, so expect leeds to be coming back up the leagues soon! best of luck to the lad!

  • 68 Nobby's dad // Sep 1, 2007 at 6:31 AM

Nobby…………….A trumpet playing God. When Talk Sport etc discuss best foreign players ever in the Prem he never gets a mention. To me he was the best ever 2 million spent and is up there with the best.

Good luck Nobby…’ll ALWAYS be a Geordie!!

  • 69 Lamesley Mag // Sep 1, 2007 at 6:53 AM

Good luck Nobby, sorry to see you go!

    You’ll be missed……..

Only hope the WHU injury hoodoo does not haunt you!

  • 70 apan // Sep 1, 2007 at 8:23 AM

its so sad, well at least his wife would be happy…..i guess BSA is willing to let his players be happy and willing to let him go for free, aww thats touching

  • 71 Obafan // Sep 1, 2007 at 10:43 AM

Good luck Nobby. I think he will be happy to move closer to his children and that’s a statement we have to understand and we all do. So thanks Nobby for the magnificent moments you gave us at St. James and good luck at West Ham. I’m a bit sad he went to West Ham cause I hate that team. According to me they are on their way to become NUFC B (Bellamy, Dyer, Bowyer, Solano, Parker). Sorry for the ex-Magpies but if there is 1 team I hope will relegate it is West Ham. They should have lost points last year and be in the Championship and perhaps Nobby would have been still here.

  • 72 Tripp // Sep 2, 2007 at 2:15 AM

Ed, Nobby played 315 times for the Toon. Sad to see him go. Best of luck to ’em.
