Allardyce – N’Zogbia Unsettled When I Arrived

It’s always good to read good news about Newcastle United and one piece of very good news recently has been the form of Charles N’Zogbia. Not only has his form been little short of magical, but he has recently been selected for the France Under-21 squad and yesterday was given a new and improved 5 year contract at the club.

Of course we all know all of this this is very much due to new manager Sam Allardyce and his seemingly unlimited ability to handle all types of players.

Sam talked about Charles to the Newcastle Journal today so we’re going to take a look at what he said.

Sam Allardcye – N’Zogbia can excel in both roles of left back and left wing

Sam Allardyce talked about the 21 year-old N’Zogbia this morning:

“He has impressed me with his performances and his ability, as well as his versatility to play in a variety of positions,” “The new contract is thoroughly deserved and hopefully he will have a long and successful career at Newcastle United.”

“There were a few issues which will remain private and confidential last season, but all we wanted to do was get Charlie concentrating on and enjoying his football again.”

“He was a bit unsettled when I arrived, but I’ve been very impressed with his performances on the pitch and his attitude. He has worked very hard, as well as being one of biggest pluses in the first few games of the season.”

“He didn’t figure much last season and he also picked up an injury. He was frustrated and maybe he was a bit disillusioned at the club, but with a new regime he has blossomed really. He is a young man with a lot of talent and we hope he will be a big player for us this season and in the future.”

Newcastle’s manager apparently recommended to new chairman Chris Mort that Charles be given a new contract, as we reported yesterday, and a new long term deal was quickly agreed with the player’s representatives.

Allardyce added:

“I recommended to the club that he was given a new contract because I’ve been really happy with his contribution to the team.”

“His performances this season haven’t just been recognized with this new contract because he has also been called into the France Under-21 squad which is a measure of how well he has done.”

Charles N’Zogbia has played for Allardyce at the left-back position and Sam seems convinced he has the flexibility to excel in both left-back and left-wing positions. Certainly he becomes a much more valuable player for Newcastle with his excellent versatility because we know he has also excelled in central midfield when played there.

Sam continued:

“Charles has the ability to play in a number of positions and he has done well wherever we’ve put him. He has played at left-back and wide left in a four-man midfield and has been excellent in both.”

“In terms of being a left-back in the long term, there are things he can still learn and he will get better as he learns those things in training and in games. He has the ability to excel in both positions, which is a great situation to be in for a young man like him.”

Sam Allardyce has taken a few days off on holiday to relax a little after putting in a terrific amount of hard work for the club over the last 3 months. But there’s that fact in life that you get out of it what you put into it. Newcastle fans are already seeing some of the rewards of Sam’s hard work and wisdom.

Charles N’Zogbia is just one example.

The Zog will be the #1 left mid in the france national squad in a few years time. All they really have there is Malouda, and if Zoggy keeps on performing like he has done and improves even more, he could be amongst the top players in Europe

Good young player! Hope we see more real good performances from the lad. Could mature to being a real class act under big sam.

With some of the players we now have are we moving to “Total Football” (I’m saying this tongue in cheek with an undertone of seriousness).

Ed – The Daily Mail have come up trumps with another classic piece of journalism today. You can read the full article here

Basically they reckon Given is set for showdown talks with BSA after being left on the bench for the Wigan game. Given is quoted as saying, “I’ve gone away with Ireland so I haven’t had time to chat with him but I’ll have to do that when I get back after these games.”

Since when did a chat with your manager become “showdown” talks?

I think it’s a chat about his sexuality.
