Rozehnal and Given Both Have Good Games

David Rozehnal played the full game for the Czech Republic yesterday in an easy 3-0 win against Sam Marino. The Czech Republic played a 3 man defense and David alternated between playing in the center and on the left. He was rarely troubled by the San Marino forwards and looked cool and extremely confident.

Shay Given seems to have had a good game for Ireland, although opponents Slovakia equalized in injury time, and that must have an impact on Ireland’s ability to qualify for the European finals next year.

David Rozehnal – cool and confident for Czech Republic yesterday

San Marino 0 Czech Republic 3

David Rozehnal played the full 90 minutes in a Czech three man back line and looked cool and confident. The commentators at the game were complimentary on the way David has played in the Premiership for Newcastle. David is obviously a good and sound defender at 6’3” and can only get better playing for Newcastle in the Premiership. News recently that David would be open to staying a lot longer at Newcastle must be music to the Geordie fans’ ears. A tremendous capture by manager Sam Allardyce.

Slovakia 2 Republic of Ireland 2

Ireland were winning this game 2-1 but Slovakia equalized in injury time. How many times have Ireland given away a late goal?  Too many times for their own good and this must be a blow to their qualifying for the finals of the tournament next summer. Shay Given played the full 90 minutes and by all reports made several outstanding saves in the game.

Malta 2 Turkey 2

We know Emre played the full game so this is yet another time where he has played for his country after being injured at Newcastle. Strange, but we guess he is at least fit now. Hope he doesn’t get injured in the next game.

Senegal 5 Burkina Faso 1

Senegal easily qualified for next year’s African Cup of Nations, routing Burkina Faso 5-1 Saturday. Henri Camara scored two goals for the Lions, and El Hadji Diouf added another. Guirane Ndaw gave the hosts the lead in the 22nd minute, but Sibry Alain Traore equalized for Burkina Faso 10 minutes later. Ousmane Ndoye put the hosts back in front in the 70th, and Camara added goals in the 72nd and 82nd minutes. Diouf secured victory with Senegal’s fifth goal in injury time. We have no information on the Senegal team and are not sure if Abdoulaye Faye played a part.

Ya dissapointing we gave away that goal in injury time, we kinda tend to forget that with this amazing youth and all comes inexperience. That and ridiculous selction by the one and only idiot Stan.

Given couldn’t do anything about either of the goals. He was outstanding and made some world class saves. Between him and Dunne they kept us in it all the way through. We should have won it when we were 2-1 up like, that was some strike by Doyle, but overall we weren’t great. We didn’t close off the game and now it’s something that we’ll have to learn from. We’ve to go to and beat Czech now away and I can see us doing it, really we wanted 4 points from the 2 matches like and it’s still possible.
