HT: Newcastle 2 West Ham 1 – Viduka Brace

nufc-crest.pngwest-ham-united-crest.png

Newcastle had a dream start top their against West at St. James’ Park today with a goal from Mark Viduka after only 2 minutes. Milner was trying to go through on the left and turned and laid the ball back to Charles N’Zogbia who put in a beautiful cross to Viduka who headed nicely home from 6 yards.

It was a great start for Newcastle and the crowd celebrated.

Mark Viduka2 first half goals from striker

The game started again and it was obvious that Newcastle had left all the cobwebs back at Pride Park and were in for a game today. West Ham started to play some good football and the game was very even as both teams fought it out for midfield control. Then Habib Beye, starting for the first time showed his skill with a wonderful run down the right as he beat two West Ham players before putting in an inviting weighted cross which was just too high.

Then after 27 minutes West Ham should really have scored as they were starting to pressure the Newcastle defense. Noble went thought and his beautiful right foot shot was brilliantly saved low to his right by Steve Harper. The save was even better when seen on the replay as the ball was going just inside the post and Harper was at full stretch. A great save from the Newcastle keeper.

Then as West Ham were coming more and more into the game Cacapa made an almost costly slip. As he was clearing the ball around the six yard box he slipped and the ball presented itself to Carlton Cole who shot from a narrow angle. However, Steve Harper again made a good block.

Newcastle have started to go back on their heels and allow West Ham to attack them and this is dangerous against a team with the skill of West Ham. Then after mounting pressure from the Londoners they equalize with a good goal from Ashton. From a throw in the ball is not cleared as it bobs about in the air. It falls to Ashton who makes no mistake from 7 yards and fires nicely past a helpless Steve harper.

Newcastle paid the price for this goal as they had stopped their attacking play and settled in to defend. Not a good strategy from the Magpies. However, after the goal Newcastle come alive again and begin to attack West Ham. Then on 41 minutes N’Zogbia made another delightful run down the left wing and as he moves inside he crosses rather than shoots. Mark Viduka just gets a boot to it to send it home for his second goal of the game. A second goal worked by Charles N’Zogbia and another striker’s goal from Viduka.

The game is very even at half time and both teams have shown they have lots of skill. Newcastle need to up the pace in the second half if they want to hang on to all 3 points. It looks like more goals will also be needed.

see what happened when enrique came on and we pushed zoggy up? !! was lovely football to watch ! were gonna have every top club going on the phone for this kid if he keeps this kind of form up.
gutted for oba missing that goal , but the lads got years of goals ahead of him .
hope all these ‘knocks’ and subs are just sam playing it safe , but its great to be able to bring off a striker for a defender and push smith up .
i thought smith had a good game , he muscled the midfield and we needed that kind of player there , butt aswell had a good game for me and played some nice attacking balls aswell as holding strong .
defence was solid also , saved the game for us at times and every new signing showing quality .
yeah its a good day tobe a toon fan .

Which monkey decides on man of the match? Viduka had a great game but COMON!!!!!!!! CHARLIE WAS THE OBVIOUS CHOICE. Unbelievable performance from the lad. When Duff is fit he can sub with Milner when he is off like today and Barton to replace Smith in midfield. Then we’ll be looking great!
Well done the Zog, outstanding……………Fabregas????? Who r ya, who r ya???
Rozenhal was superb again and Germemi must get credit too.
    3:1 great result.

Good win but I still say that this 433 type system with Smith, Geremi, Butt and the out of sorts Milner is wrong.
    Has to be 442…
    Beye looked great.
    Harps/Given
    Beye, Rozy, Cacapa, Enrique
    Milner, Geremi, Barton, N’Zogbia
    Viduka, Owen/Martins

5th in table, good way to end the weekend, if only we had turned up on Monday, dare I saw top 3 position?

    Dreaming I guess.

2nd half was much improved, less nervous, excellent defence and Oba did really well sett up Zog.

Reckon Owen’s off to Germany for a hernia operation sooner rather than later. Still as long as he’s fit for England…

Harper was fantastic, he is so cool and relaxed on the ball that it is infectious throughout the team.
Beye had a very solid game at right back and excellent at going forward though I was disappointed when he was at the byline that he didn´t just drive the ball inside the area but instead he went for the chip.
Cacapa Very solid and sound today, didnt put a foot wrong, our defensive defender
Rhozy was solid in defense and good also at going forward and really knows how to pass the ball. Though disappointed with how the handled the throw ins but I think N’Zogbia might have been more in the wrong there as he doesn´t really have the build or the height to deal with it
N’Zogbia, absoloutly fantastic, it´s a simple word to put on him. He would get a ten from me if he hadn´t miscontrolled the ball and if he had been good defensively which he wasn´t at throw ins.
Smith – Role model for every footballer, when he took that endless run in the second half chasing the ball untill we won it. You can´t do anything else but admire that. Played well in every position today and I was really pleasantly surprised
Butt Fantastic today, not happy with the criticism he got from the last game, he just needs the rest of the team with him!
Geremi is what I find just a poor player, he isn´t good enough or driving enough, obvious choice to leave out with Barton Fit. I just don´t see what he adds to the team, just can´t see it.
Milner very out of sorts today, just a plain poor day for him, but he still always threatning when on the ball
Mark Viduka Just watch the game today and our last game. Then you really see how awful Ameobi was as the target striker, he can´t handle that position, well can´t handle he just to afraid to be muscling with defenders. I don´t want a player who is afraid at Newcastle. Viduka fantastic today
Michael Owen Threatning and made vital runs, he was very impressive despite not appearing on the ball that much
Martins Shocking miss, shocking. If he would score the easy goals he should then he would be a top striker. The reason why he will never beahead of owen is simply because he aint consistent and we all know it.
    Taylor – Solid as always
Enrique So much different when he went to defense and Zogbia further upfield. He is a most starter next game. The best team Nufc good lineup with everyone fit and which would be a very able title contender team is:

    Harper
    Beye Rhozenhal Cacapa Enrique
    Milner Butt Barton N’Zogbia
    Viduka Owen

Or then just Smith and Martins as backups to rotate the strikeforce. Just love the options there. Ameobi who?

Smith or Emre instead of Butt mate. Butt was decent today but he’s at Shola’s level in my eyes, not good enough for first 11.

Harper was dodgy he made 2 good saves, that’s it he stood there gawking at the ball as it went into the net. Given is the better keeper, Owen shouldn’t start he wasn’t great Smith should come in instead or maybe Martins.

Smith should start I’ve said it countless of times he will work for every single inch of grass on the pitch if he’s given the chance and we saw signs of that today.

Best line up for the Gunners.

Given (by far the better keeper..he should be given the chance)..and the fact that if he isn’t played for Arsenal then he might just end up in Arsenal come January.

    Given.
    Beye, Rhozenhal, Cacapa, Enrique
    Milner, Geremi, Barton, N’Zogbia
    Viduka, Smith

Smith..somewhere, if Owen gets picked ahead of him then there is no justice and there is favouritsm. Smith will work for every inch of that pitch he’ll run down balls like there’s no tomorow even if he’s got little chance to win them he is a true roll model like, especially when you look at the likes of Drogba and such who don’t do a spade of work and spend half the time on the ground “injured.”

There’s a saying we have in Cork, the Cork hurlers used it last year, and he really stamps it in..

“Fight for them, fight for yourself, fight for Gach Uile Liathroid”..(every single ball) and he will if he’s just given the chance.

Now if someone could remind Harper then that would be great, the idea is to try and stop the ball from going into the back of then net, not watch it.

Martins will play with Smith or Ameobi up front against the Gunners also i expect Taylor, Emre and Faye to be in the squad too.
I don’t think Barton will be ready to first team football just yet it could take another 1-2 weeks before he starts.

IMO our line-up will be something like this:

    Given
    Taylor Faye Rozy Enrique
    Milner Geremi Emre Zog
    Martins Ameobi

Subs : Harper, Beye, Butt, Troisi, Smith.

Apan…I was a goalkeeper before and i don’t have a favourite between Given and Harper.
There was a small posibility to save that ball,Harper made a mistake with his positioning when they started scrambling in the box.
Ashton on his left hand side had a wide open goal, this is where Harper was supposed to be.Instead he was behind their backs and had no clue where the ball was untill he saw it in the net.
But overall was a good performance by Harper and whoever BSA desides to put as a first choise GK that he wont regret.
